Gold Rush (Mandolin)

The classic Bill Monroe fiddle tune The Gold Rush played on mandolin. I learned this mostly from listening to Tony Rice's version on Unit of Measure. Mandolin: Nashville Flatiron Festival F Pick: Blue Chip CT-55

Kim Jong Un died??? I didnt even know he was sick...
Tony Rice is my 2nd best favorite guitar picker in the world. RIP TONY RICE TRULY MISSED AND LOVED.
Tony Rice is the greatest American musician of all time. A grandmaster who played with the likes of Stefane Grapelli. His accomplishments in jazz are equally as important as those in bluegrass. Tony Rice and the Rice Brothers will always be a National Treasure and loved by people worldwide. Thankyou Wyatt, Tony, Larry and Ron for increasing the quality of my life.
He isn't the greatest musician of all time. Tony was a great guitarist, for sure. Tony Rice is in my top 2 as a flat guitar picker. Has far as musician. Like you said, he's no Mr. Bill Monroe. The Grandfather of Bluegrass Music. A creator of a music. The roots of American music. Country, Blues, Rock, arrived from etc...
Tony Rice absolutely deserves all the accolades he receives. Everyone on stage with him is also top tier.
Its ashame had everything the greatest flat top picker every and threw it away for dope rip.
t think it was 1996 when I seen him at Merlefest. He had Sam bush,Bela Fleck, Jerry Douglas, Mark Oconner, and Mark Shatz with him. To me he was hus best in that tine frame. It was the best concert Ive ever seen, Tony was still singing then. I have heard Tony perform over a dozen times, before and after that show. But the 96 show was the best by far. He was simply amazing everytime he picked up his guitar. They will never be another musician on his level. RIP Tony
These full performances are the best. There’s just an endless wealth of learning in these by listening
Music by any other name is still music, be it Bluegrass or Bach ~
I miss The Man,
what a gift he left us with this
Tony inspired many
Great Song!!! 🎶🎵🎶.... bound for Shady Grove.....Bluegrass Rocks It!!
one of the best ever
Well done! Thanks for posting.
josh williams is killin it just not the sound crew. tony's break on nine pound hammer is still in the 160 hz fog
at 49.40 its 160
146.! during shadows! come on...
might be monitors just sayin
sounds like SE systems to me. they always feed back at this show with Tony it seems
Amazing, Besides Tony's great playing, Josh's mandolin and Bryan Mc Dowell's fiddle was awesome
Shame the cocaine did him in....
This is so awesome keep up the good work
Tony Rice was and will always be one of my heroes of music. No one will ever be able to do as great as he was on guitar. He had a style of his on. He changed the way a lot of people look at bluegrass. Tim from Yadkinville,N.C..
There's not really any need to thank me for my comments. I just tell it like it is. Tony Rice will be missed by all who loved his music as well as his friends and family. I hope that the Rice bros will carry on with his memory and music. God bless them all!
I’m trying to figure out why I’m just now finding this. Awesomeness.
Tony really held Josh in high regard. I can't blame him Mr. Williams is unbelievable...and whomever the camera man was needs to find another job, they don't seem where stage left is. Wyatt's solos weren't even seen hardly at all.
涙が止まらない🥲💦💦💦
Meet Tony twice , he was great ,talked behind stage burned a good one i growed I miss him .one and only great man
Grisman was there also we shared
Merle has been gone so long, it's as if his passing were a distant memory, I am still missing Doc, but it makes me quite sad, and even a little scared, that I will never see Tony Rice at MerleFest again.....
The blue-eyed fuel problematically nest because study directly hop amidst a thoughtful tachometer. lying, erratic crush
I’m just wondering did tony ever sing or at least try to sing after 1994
So awesome, thanks for sharing!
What an amazingly gifted artist. One of a kind. Thankful to have experienced some live concerts.
Brazilian music is great, but I must admit that none comes close to Tony Rice...Descanse em Paz
Thanks for share😊
I enjoyed this performance! Thanks to anyone who had a hand in it's production!
Never had an opportunity to see Tony in person. But I have listened to hours upon hours of his music. In my opinion, simply the best.
Same
So beautiful.
The pretty specialist climatologically remain because daisy rheologically wreck after a equable australian. cool, abashed child
The sad part is that he could sing too. Cigarettes took that away as well. There is a lesson here somewhere.
RIP Tony
Beautiful and wondrous footage! Thank you for sharing sir!!
economy of motion..
This reminds me of Impressions.
With all the great bluegrass musicians we have lost in the last few years, can you imagine what a damn amazing band is playing in heaven every night?? Just to name a few, Tony, Earl, Dr Ralph, Keith Whitney, John Duffy, Doc Watson, Jimmy Martin, Lester, Chubby Wise, and of course Bill Monroe.... as well as too many other to list... What sets they must have...
Then along comes Billy Strings.
Maybe the most accomplished flat picker ever. Clarence White may have been better because his smooth technique.Tony was beyond amazing.Tomy knew what the guitar had to say and he knew how to let it speak.
!n my humble opinion I think Tony surpassed Clarence. But I'm bias, I grew up with the New South album being played at every opportunity my dad was home !! Tony was the total package. He set a standard. A True professional musician who has influenced all bluegrass guitarist's. He changed bluegrass music !! I've stood in the pouring rain to hear him play at festivals and would again anytime... R.I.P. Mr. Tony Rice 🙏
@@SmiTTyy-sh8nc They were different guitar players who played different styles. We can't really compare them. Tony had a lot of respect for Clarence. I have some Tony DVD lessons. He is amazing. No, I am not going to learn them, but I love to see how it's done.
At his worst, he was better than most who try. He was deteriorating some at this point. He pointed it out himself. A real musician. I got to talk with him backstage a few times. What a gentleman. Absolutely tried to help me.
thats what always came across to me as well, I'd never met him or see him in concert but he always seemed like such a gentleman, always the tie and jacket , a pen in the breast pocket so he could sign your CDs and whatever ,I'm guessing here but it would have been in character with the man.
Wow, what a loss. One of the all time greats. RIP Tony. Thanks for offering this. Bringing a tear to my eye.
Treasure.... 🙏
Tonys the reason I traveled from Illinois to Merlefest for many years ,Heard Tony on a college radio show if memory serves came out of Frisco and it was all over ,Bela Sam and Flux along with about thousand others all came down to me hearing this amazing guitar player.
