Hi Jak, Thank you for your question. The lead with earth separated out can be used to measure leakage either by attaching the clamp to the lead with all conductors enclosed except the protective earth, or alternatively by attaching the clamp only around the protective earth conductor. Attaching around all conductors instead of the protective earth works best as this method gives total leakage rather than what flows in the protective earth conductor. Remember the protective earth may not have all the leakage flowing through it as there may be a lower resistance parallel earth path, this is why the other option is our preference and what we would normally recommend.
