    Do you have to resight in your scope after each swap or do you have marks on your scope caps for each caliber?

    You know, there is something I have noticed about these videos reviewing higher end ARs. They almost always have some variety of gassing issues and everyone is always running adjustable blocks and different weights of buffer. I am admittedly fairly new to AR rifles, but have been shooting bolt actions since I was 5 years old, I am 47. I have more guns than most guntubers, all have been accumulated throughout my life, and I am a "certified" gunsmith which is just to say I took all the classes just to see if I would learn anything. I can't say that I did. With that said, I built my second AR with all AR stoner parts a standard M4 for the most part, and it runs great. Used standard parts such as a basic JP enterprises spring and buffer, I have made the mil-spec trigger about 4 lbs and really smooth. But I said all that to say this, I also have a couple bear creek uppers,, 5.56 and 6 ARC. and they just run. Both are 1 MOA or better and I have never needed to add an adjustable block. But these same people saying their CMMG(for instance, but insert higher end brand) that required 200 rounds and hours of work trying 15 different mags yet they rave about the wonderful 1MOA accuracy and how great the gun is. Not saying the chep stuff is amazing or anything like that, just saying I think a lot of brand snobbery comes from people who refuse to believe that their high end rifle may have issues that should be addressed by the manufacturer. I don't get it. If basic mags off the shelf don't work, I am sending it back, be it a Bear Creek or a Geiselle or a CMMG or Daniel Defense. I should not have to try several different magazines on a standardized platform. I will take cheap and reliable any day over an expensive PIA.

    I took my asc mags apart and pulled the flattened coils (about 4 on the 5 round and 2 on the 25 round) and they both are working fine now. The duramags have worked fine period.

      Negative - different size actions. 300 blackout would swap with smaller rounds like 223/556 - 8.6 has bigger action similar to 308 and 6.5 creedmoor

    I’m having similar issues and suspect it’s also the magazine. Going to order a few different ones now. I’ll try duramag next and asc or whatever it is. Definitely not spending $120 on a G$ mag, that’s insanity. What model Arken is that? I got an Athlon helos 2-12 but I can’t get used to this reticle but I wanted one that has rangefinding capabilities… but this won’t work with a piggyback red dot unfortunately due to turrets being so dang massive. Thinking of getting that new Arken 1-8 lpvo

    • @vintagejeep
      @vintagejeep 5 місяців тому

      Yup give new mags a try! Easiest thing to check. My brother has the newer Arken 1-8 and likes it. He’s still getting used to the reticle too. That’s the 4-16 on this arc. It’s good up to about 12-14 mag then gets a little purple and blurry on the edges at 16. It’s a nice scope, everything except the Chinese glass which I would compare to vortex diamondback/ strike eagle…

    • @dionysis84
      @dionysis84 5 місяців тому

      I’ve got the Arken EP5 or whatever their higher end one is with Japanese glass on a 6 creed Ruger precision rifle (super fun rifle to shoot). Very nice glass and I’d put it above my viper pst but below the razor I have. You are absolutely correct on the higher magnification levels as the ep5 suffers from the same issue. They don’t seem to have the same light transmission as higher end vortex or Leupolds but for the price I can deal with it. I just don’t know if 8X max magnification will really do the 6ARC Justice. If I had the funds I’d get a mpvo nightforce but I’d definitely have to sell a few optics and a left nut to afford one of em right now, lol. Cool video man, definitely helped me out.

  • @blazinggsx

    Those groups are unacceptable imo. It seems to be a barrel problem to me. Early on diff manufacturers were using diff freebore lengths and early hornady blacks 105s were loaded into the lands. I would check your freebore measurement then start at .025 jump from the lands. The harder you push 6arc the less reloads you will get with your brass, the primer pocket grows. My most accurate loads are 103 eldx w 29.8gn cfe223 factory oal sd3 es8 @2812fps but i can only get 3-4 loads on new brass so they are strictly hunting loads. My barrel is xcaliber 24" 1:7 5r. Good luck

      @vintagejeep 5 місяців тому

      Sounds like we have come to the same conclusions! Yes I think the barrel has issues, but have revised loads and find that the 103eldx are the best rounds using similar grains and powder as you. Glad to see someone else is having success with similar loads! Appreciate the comment 👍👍

    You didn't get a crimp because you kept backing out the die body instead of the bullet seater to increase oal. Screw the die in until it touches brass, then lower it for more crimp or raise it for less. Make all your oal adjustments with the bullet seater.

    • @vintagejeep
      @vintagejeep 9 місяців тому

      Got it! Appreciate the help- figured all that out a few days later when I woke up in the middle of the night realized I didn’t adjust that!

  • @justflylow
    @justflylow 9 місяців тому

    Most lee dies will crimp if you set them right. Read the die instructions for proper adjustment. You look like you have loaded other ammo before so I assume you have a bullet puller. A hammer style puller works great for multiple ammo. It is easy to have one seated too deep at first and you don’t want to fire those. Good luck and have fun! You are off to a good start.

  • @justflylow
    @justflylow 9 місяців тому

    It’s the same bullet that Hornady uses for their loads. When I started loading these, I used a factory round to get the overall length just to start with. I figured it would be safe doing that just to factory should be in the safe range. You will find out that if you use different bullets, it’s going to seat differently because of the shape of the end of the bullet. I found that Berger bullets end up a lot longer on the overall length because they are skinnier at the tip. Just keep checking everything like you’re doing and play it safe. It is a learning experience and each rifle is different for what it likes.

  • @justflylow
    @justflylow 9 місяців тому

    Why are you cranking out the whole seating die when you’re setting the depth? All you need to crank out is the stem to fine-tune the depth.

    Must be lucky as all my ASC, Dura, and E-Landers feed fine. (5rd and 10rd) Were some teething issues with the Dura 20’s though. Run them all in both my 6.5 Grendel an my 6mm ARC. Prefer the E-Landers now though, yes not the cheapest but worth it to me. I feel barrels, BCG, and mags aren’t the place to be a penny pincher. But don’t hesitate to get Dura-mags. Also don’t feel the need to get more than 10rd mags. I have 5.56/223 or 300blk for that kind thing.

  • @GB-zi6qr

    I'm not very far into your video and I have to make a comment. Hopefully you've already learned what I'm about to say. The knurled knob on top of your seating die is for setting your overall lenght. Also called your seating depth. The body of the die supports the case while you're seating the bullet, this way you don't collapse the brass during the seating operation. Edit to add: Do you have a reloading manual? If so read it, the information there will keep you from blowing up your gun. If you don't have a reloading manual get one and read it! I also recommend looking up "Johnny's Reloading Bench" and "Bolt Action Reloading" channels. Those guys are very good at reloading and have some great content on this subject. My point is not to be condescending or negative, I enjoy reloading also. My point is to help you stay safe and get better results more quickly. Changing a load by more than half of a grain of powder can be dangerous, even if your staying below published maximum. Example, I made some loads that were below max charge. The lowest charge gave more than 100fps above published velocity and the primer showed cratering on each round I fired. Those rounds were over pressure and a danger to me and my rifle. I didn't finish shooting the rest of the loads. Instead I took them apart to reclaim the components. I was using published data from the power manufacturer for the bullet I was loading. Same barrel length but different twist rate. Their twist rate was 1:9 where mine is 1:8. Again, I'm not trying to stop you from reloading but hoping to help make you more safe so you enjoy it more.

  • @Gahmaz0z

  • @Gahmaz0z
    @Gahmaz0z 10 місяців тому

    Dude! what load data are you using? 2.150" is way short for that bullet. You need to match data found from a reputable source like Hornadys book. If you seat way deep you wil quickly run into high pressure issues. Its a good thing you started low.

    • @vintagejeep

    Had to Dremel an arc (no pun intended) at the feeding side of my ASC (red follower) mag to remove some material. Apparently, the mouth edge of the rounds was getting hung up on the edge of the mag. Solved the issue 100 percent and it operates flawlessly now. Actually did this with my Duragmags, as well. The main issue I have with ASC mags vs. DuraMags is the former don't feature any stamping to indicate the cartridge or round count. Not fun when you also run a bunch of other similarly-sized cartridges. But yeah, you shouldn't be expected to have to modify the mag in order to make it function, and the design fix is so easy, I can't fathom why they don't machine them that way to begin with.

    • @vintagejeep
