Dash Instrument Cluster Removal | Alfa Romeo Giulietta – Was I Successful In Repairing It?
This video is about the steps I took to dismantle my instrument cluster on my Alfa Giulietta to see if I could repair one of the LED lights, in one of the display dials. As you'll see in the video I was able to dismantle the cluster, but I wasn't successful repairing the faulty LED light. I will have to live with it for now, but if it annoys me, I will have to buy a second hand one or get this one reconditioned unit. I hope you find the video helpful. If you like my video, please give a thumbs up and subscribe, it really helps me out making these videos for the public to watch.

This video is Part 2 of my Alfa Romeo Giulietta clutch replacement challenge. It's slow going, the Alfa is fighting me a bit. With so many different size Torx, Hex and the standard sockets. This probably the most frustrating clutch change I've done. I had to order a few tools as I didn't have the range. Doing this type of job means i'm guided by the elements! Rain stopped play! Great video, this is exactly what I need to do on my Saab 9-3 TTiD because it has exactly the same EGR and in the same place. Otherwise, the exact same EGR valve goes into many different brands and vehicles: ALFA ROMEO: 5520 9609, 55209609, 55 209 609 ALFAROME/FIAT/CHAINS: 55209609 CADILLAC : 55209609 FIAT: 55209609, 5520 9609, 55 209 609 GENERAL MOTORS: 55 209 609, 55209609 LANCIA: 5520 9609, 55209609, 55 209 609 SAAB: 55209609, 55 209 609 Here is how many vehicles by brand ALFA ROMEO 16 vehicles FIAT 37 vehicles JEEP 6 vehicles LANCIA 8 vehicles SAAB 3 vehicles SUZUKI 4 vehicles
COMPLIMENTI , SEI UN GRANDE MECCANICO 👍🙌👏
I have the same color on my QV, blu profondo! Best color in my opinion and more than rare!
how much to do my clutch on my alfa please
You are an absolute legendary mechanic I am so impressed. I am thinking about buying a 2012-2013 Alfa Romeo Giulietta QV manual. But everyone says they are too unreliable and problematic. What do you think? I had a lovely Alfasud it was an 1981 model from memory I had to get a water pump and timing bet kit put on it and it needed a full clutch kit at one stage. The water pump had seized into the block I had to chop it out with a cold chisel (actually my Dad RIP was a legendary mechanic he hacked it out of the block for me). It isn’t a good setup. I put it in with a new O ring and plenty of anti seize for next time. We also put a full clutch kit in and had the flywheel machined. I did 100,000km trouble free though and loved driving it. We then purchased a four door Alfa Romeo 33 which was about a 1983 with 100,000km on it. I just serviced it regularly and only put brake pads and tyres on it in 50,000km. I lost it when my partner and I split up sadly. I have bought sensible, boring, family cars for the past 20 plus years to transport my family around in. Now I have the chance to buy a say 2012-2013 Alfa Romeo high performance turbocharged manual hatch or sedan. These sell for about $14,000AUD in good condition many have between 100,000 and 160,000km on the speedo. Occasionally a lower km one pops up. I thought perhaps a QV Giulietta some do 0-100kph in 6 seconds and are about 190kw. I like a quick toy. Being a family man in AustraliaI don’t have bundles of cash to keep it on the road if it keeps breaking down. I would appreciate your guidence. Are these good reliable vehicles or is there a better model I should look at instead. Thanks for your valuable time. Kind regards Michael H from Australia csimic23@gmail.com
Super reliable fuel efficient sporty and fashionable to eternity. Vag Group took the Alfa chief of design Walter DeSilva to help fix the boring vw's bentleys porsche's seats skodas & audis... The result was the tt r8 r10 a3 a4 a5 q5 touareg q7... Etc In the hands of a proper technician like your dad (RiP 🙏) no troubles
Thx for this vidéo
Was it all? No engine fault check light back?
Great job!
That draibed gearbox oil looked new
Drained *
Great job, I have a 159 TBi and seems like there is a leakage of break fluid, seems like clutch slave cylinder is dead, so there is a leakage somewhere in the system, maybe the reservoir , or some lines.... I am just devastated, after changing spark plugs, water pump, all the belts, new battery, new coolant and coolant reservoir, now this problem... I think this might be my last Alfa Romeo.... I just do not have the will power an dmone
Now that's what I call star gazing in style. Really impressive.
Very nice friend, thank you
Hi awesome video i must say u very brave to take on a task like this
It is possible to do the job just by removing the short drive shatf??? Great video!
Unfortunately not, you have to remove both
I did a try to clean the MAP on my 2.0 Giulietta but it stucked. Must be an idiot who designed that a plastic slides into another plastic. I guess someone put a replacement part without oil or grease and dry out and now i cant' remove from the intake. Do i have to push something else when i try to slide it off? First Alfa Romeo model in 25 years of ownership which i can't fall in love.
you have to gently prise it off, mine was tight, try not to break anything around it though like i did
I dont even need to do mine yet, and i was having horror thoughts of all kinds of special tools needed. But you demonstrated to use most of the tools i already have, so just a second hand engine hoist and locking tool and i would be good to go. Thanks for this information.
You're welcome! Thanks for sharing. It was a horror thought for me but once you get into it, its fine besides you have this video and if you get stuck i'll try and remember what i did lol
Maf with what did u clean it w40 or some specific cleaner?
Some EGR cleaner, Carb cleaner would do it too
They have the worst engine mount location, like on opel. every place you mount it, engine twist in radiator. This can only mother love. Maybe engineer shoud go to retire!! just in case they dont do any crazy engineering again. To remove starter and supports the engine i can probably remove gearbox, change the clutch and mount gearbox on any VW group car.
thank you for the message:-)
This is a great video, I’ll be doing it myself soon so a great resource! I just have a couple of questions. You may not reply but here goes 😅… Firstly why was there a need to remove the callipers? And secondly is there a need to remove the outer tie rod/track rod end from the hub? Surely if you’re also disconnecting the steering rack from the subframe then there is no need? As the steering rack will dangle along with those components as they’d still be attached to the hub? Or am I missing something? Also I have found that if removing that lower ball joint is tricky and you’re not replacing the arm itself, then you can undo the 2 bolts/nuts that connect the arm to the subframe, pull it out and it’ll give you more than enough angle with the hub to pull out the driveshafts.
It was just easier to removed it plus i changed the pads too. i also removed the tie-rod because i thought you needed to, to get the driveshaft out. You live and learn. I had to do my lower control arm the other day and disconnected the anti roll bar link and bottom ball joint. Anyway cheers for the message
@@maverick51thanks for the reply! All makes sense, every day is a school day 😅. Thanks again for the video though as it’s hugely helpful!
@@eszenix you’re very welcome, have a great day 😊
Did you remember to put tread locker on the flywheel,,
They came with a threat locking stuff on the bolts. Its been over a year now and still all working fine:-)
Well done brother. The mystery plug 55:20 is nothing important, but if you look closely, it's your car smiling at you in appreciation.😉
Haha thank you. much appreciated :-)
Well done, not an easy or pleasant job at the best of times even with a car lift and all the correct tools. Hats off to you 👍👍
Thank you, yeah it wasn't easy but i saved alot of money doing it myself:-)
Hi, link to the drawer runners not working.. can you tell me what length they are please? Cheers
Here you go, Heavy Duty Drawer Runners with Lock 450mm Ball Bearing Drawer Slides 120kg Load
The link works now, thank you for the heads up
Thank you👍
@@maverick51Hi again, sorry keep bothering you!! I have bought the 450mm drawer slides but can’t understand how the luroy slats should be the 80 x 200 size? Shouldn’t they be 90 x 200 ie: 450 when cut in half? Cheers hope you can help? Or maybe I need to buy 2 packs 😅if you can tell me the slats length that would solve it!! Cheers Simon
No worries. I bought two packs and I had to cut the slats down to length
Brilliant xx so inspiring - spring is almost here!!
Aww thank you, yeah can't wait to get out in the van:-)
Last time i done this ( in front of the house)was 7 years ago on 147 😂. Nice job mate
Thank you very much
Amazing 🎉
thank you :-)
Hello, how many kilometers has the car?
Hi, it had done about 100km before it went. It could of come sooner
I swiped right 🤷♀️
haha thanks:-)
Man this is awesome. So helpful! Thanks a lot
You're welcome
This is a self adjust clutch, you need a special tool for the initial adjustment
ok thanks for that. I didn't need to adjust it. Been running it for a while and it works a treat
@@maverick51 ua-cam.com/video/OFxYqU8SFZI/v-deo.htmlsi=l2gsZi1VFsnubj0C This is the correct form.
Hi Maverick. Great video thanks for sharing. One question if u don’t mind… that metal gasket/seal thing… did you put that in the hole first or kinda glue it to the EGR valve? Did it come out with the EGR valve on removal or did u fish it out of the hole? Great work cheers mate 👍👍👍
Hi Steve. Thank you for watching my video. The metal ring was just placed back in without any gasket seal, i just used a steady hand to place it back in the hole, just make sure it stayed in there and the EGR slipped straight back in. Hope this make sense :-)
Thanks for your reply Maverick. I changed it out yesterday. I couldn’t understand why u disconnected battery. I found out when I went to get the lower EGR bolt and got sparked at 🤣🤣🤣 When EGR removed there was no metal ring that came out with it. I looked in the bore with a mirror and it looked like it had stayed in place so I just fitted new one. Anyway thanks for all the info. Cheers mate 😃😃😃
loving your work!! #builtnotbought I am converting an ex amazon sprinter and enjoying the the process, making everything myself so glad i found your channel as I'm definitely copying this pull out bed design (if you don't mind haha😄) Cheers 🤜💥🤛
Hey SImon. No worries, you go ahead, i'm glad i inspired you to make one. Hope its all clear. Send me a pic when its done, i'm interested:-)
Appreciate your posting of this video. I have very small hands and even after removing the throttle butterfly unit (throttle body?) I couldn't get near the egr valve bottom bolt as there were 2 pipes in the way. Were there any parts removed in the making of this video?
no there wasn't maybe yours is in a different place. thanks for watching anyway
@@maverick51 Thanks for the reply.
You sir, are an absolute legend! I have a whiney tbi and this is exactly what ive been looking for! Only painful bit is buying the clutch, flywheel and slave cylinder! Ouchy!
Cheers mate, i was hoping this would come in handy for someone one day :-)
Just did this today you’re a life saver mate😂👌
Ah cheers mate thank you:-)
Great job! I’ve been scribbling drawings of a bed like that with a shell around it so it’s like a slide-out extension. Do you think that’d work or would it be too heavy (could be mitigated by fold out legs to support the bed pod in the Out position?).
Depends on the runners. you might have to weigh everything first
Hello, I’m looking to do a service myself for the first time, would this process be the same for a 1.4 multi air?
Maybe a little different but i'm sure you'll be able to do it. You must of done it by now as i relied really late lol
thx for the video!
thank you. very. much
Inspirational !
thank you, you're very kind:-)

thank you
Hi, your map sensor was so good, mine after 318.000km never cleaned is like a piece of charcoal. My car was limp mode at ramdom, I replaced MAF but limp mode still there so I bought a MAP sensor now. Hope this will solve problem. Not any dtc on my software. 😂
Thanks for sharing
its safe to remove eltric part of egr no tricks no springs, just metal part that comes out and pushes the valve forward
cool, thank you for mentioning it
Ivane, kada se odvrnu ova 4 šrafa odvoji se elektro-kotva od mehaničkog dela. Koji je tu pokretan, koliko vidim ovaj gornji se samo neki "čep" - šta se u metalnom delu pokreće gore-dole?
You're a star!!!!
haha cheers Javi
A lot of hard work! Well done. And thanks for recording and sharing it.
My pleasure! thank you for watching
Saw your link on T so thought I would have a look.. camper van looks amazing ! Well done
Awesome, thank you!
You should remove oil pan and change oil pump catcher sealant. Oil light is flashing.
its all reset now thank you
for me it's really hard to get to the bottom bolt so i just said leave it as it is haha
Thats fair enough. It is very difficult to get to:-)
Hi, I've cleaned my egr, dellorto, but after one year check engine light came again. So I replaced by a new one, aftermarket, multiecuscan to say ecu a new egr was inside engine. That egr runs ok only one year, was blocked. Then I replaced by the old one and run, again informing ecu by mecuscan or alfaobd, ok 6 month then again P490. Finally I placed a plate and a egr-off by a chiptuner. Now engine runs perfect, Fiat Doblo 1.6 105cv 313.000km.
Thanks for the advice. Mine has been coming on again. I might get an after market one. Does it go through get MOT plate and RGR off?
@Maverick 51 in Spain MOT only conect their computers to OBD for recently diesel cars. Ii
@@e.e.p.5473 oh I see, thank you for explaining 😊
Hi there @e.e.p.5473, which option did you use in MES to inform ECU about the new EGR valve? I don't see any option related to a new EGR replacement.
Hi there, thanks for the videos - great work! I am currentley in the middle of this job myself and I'm wondering why did you need to loosen the Subframe? Cheers!
Thank you for you message. I needed to loosen it to get access to driveshalfs, starter motor and to get the gearbox out. Cheers
There's a fair bit of space behind the back rest, if you cut access panels in that it would be a good place to store bedding or pillows
That’s a great idea thank you. I’m actually using the space when I put the boiler and pump in
