After living in Russia for well over the last decade, I decided that it was time for me to share what I've learned about the country and its people, as well as give insights into how things have changed and how that might continue into the future

5:26 well, the discovery of nuclear fusion and vision was truly human beings, discovering the power of God. And besides the United States, Russia is the only country to possess nuclear weapons in such a way that the entire planet could be destroyed with them. That’s nothing to take lately. And you would think a country that has such capability would be given a little more respect. But in the last 20 or 30 years, what has happened is the United States and the European Union have pretty much made a mockery of Russia and they have continued to inch closer and threaten Russia’s borders in security. To say that NATO is playing with fire is quite an understatement. Simply put native believes that it can inch closer and closer inches from Moscow, and eventually take it with no resistance from Russia and Russia will not use its nukes to prevent this. Unfortunately, Russia continually talks about their nukes and their media because more than likely unless NATO stops there, aggressive move towards Russian borders the Russian elite are going to have to use the nukes. There’s no other way to deal with an encroaching NATO. They’re just simply too arrogant, and don’t respect anyone . But yeah, Russian media likely talks about it often because it is continually on the Russian governments mind to use them.
I think you did a mistake. Russian companies can not fire people who went to war but they do not need to pay them. Actually they just need to keep their places. Same story with pregnant women the main problem what they can come back any time and you need to give them a job. But almost all payments go from government not from private companies.
@@KimSigachev You're right, the government has taken over payments since 2021. Before that, though, employers were responsible, and then they paid less into ФСС
I LOVED this and wish we had also made it to this cemetery during our visit in the past. The gray sky and fall colors really added to it.
"Кладбище может быть местом великого спокойствия и красота " ты прекрасно сказал . Посети старые кладбища дореволюционные , интересно посмотреть самые старые могилы, памятники, фамильные склепы. Интересное видео 👍

Couldn't you consider the "childfree" tax to be the same as in the US where you have to declare your tax status (single/married) and dependents, giving you a tax cut? Maybe they should have marketed it like that instead!
IIRC (off the top of my head), there is an additional tax credit for people with children, so that already exists here

It would have been good to hear a little more detail and depth to your reasons for moving to Russia. I get the kerbstone thing and I very much agree with you... however, your title heads with why you moved to Russia and the pin story is only part of the reason I am sure.

No, that's fair criticism and I appreciate it. I'm aware of it as well, so I'm working on it, but doing live video is no as easy as it might seem. Still, thanks for being critical in a constructive way, without being insulting

14:42 “... a comma in the wrong place” is certainly a pain in the computer's ass, you know. With and without a comma in the name are two different files or two different people, basically. Someday the NFT will fix this, but that day has yet to come.
True, but you don't have the option to just fix such minor mistakes on the spot and that's more than a bit frustrating
Thanks for another weekly roundup and for continuing to keep it real! As regards the Hare family (the Texan immigrants), the plot has been thickening. The family that had helped them immigrate put out a very weird live stream about the situation. To me, it looked like pre-emptive damage control to prevent blowback against a certain member of the Duma who was at least tangentially involved. Admittedly, that is a big speculative leap on my part, but I see no other convincing reason for the weirdly aggressive stance they chose to adopt.
I've been following the situation as well and it seems like some shady stuff is going on behind the scenes. Or incompetence from both parties (equally likely)

Hi man. You have a very good pronunciation of Russian. But when you said the word "скорлупа" - it really grated on my ears. The correct way to pronounce the word "скорлупа" is with the stress on the A. "скорлупА". Don't think that I'm being picky. I just want your pronunciation to get even better.
<3<3<3 This is the type of comment I'm all about. You're absolutely right and this is the type of thing my wife calls me out on (I know the pronunciation, I just forget because I don't say the word that often); I really appreciate this. Much love
We are in the same camp about these Americans and American families. I thought I was being cold about them too, but the fact is they are delusional and naive and it's a bit embarrassing. I suppose I hope all turns out well for them, but I do have a sense of gatekeeping since I don't want a ton of these types of people coming and stirring up stuff.
Comment for promotion. But maybe for algorithm make separate videos on every topic?
@@glblshoppng9533 A lot of these topics do require their own video, but with news and current events, it's very hard to keep up to speed with everything happening, so that's why I've been streaming once a week. Still, I understand what you mean. And thanks for the support
@@russiaincontext then maybe cut stream afterwards and upload as separate videos on every day of the week?
@@glblshoppng9533 Agreed. A lot of streamers I watch do that. Also you can break up streams and long videos, by marking time stamps for chapter breaks in the description.
Expat American spoke about the Hare family tonight, seems that they are flinging mud now! @expatamerican3234
I can only say that your perception is your reality. Unfortunately, most Americans do not feel this way. I cannot compare Russia to the United States because I've never been to Russia. But, I have been to several major cities this year. And walking over zombie drug addicts in the middle of the city sidewalk is not what I call safe. Cheers

Gonzalo Lira was clearly a journalist - i.e. someone who commited his thoughts on certain public-interest matters to a journal/record, which he published with the intention of reaching an interested audience. Same as you are a journalist.
Haven't really noticed that vibe change in Moscow that you were talking about. Maybe it can be explained by a different social circle, not sure.
It depends how much you know about the warhammer lore you and the other people who reported it missed the biggest gotcha moment of them all in that imperial lore
Which gotcha moment would that be?
I wonder if this will stick... Here goes. The most egregious thing about that case, for me, is the fact that those purity seals are symbols of a pagan religion. In the Warhammer 40k world, they represent a mark of pure faith in the eyes of a human God-Emperor, who has been in power since time immemorial (any real-world parallels here?) and who demands worship to the exclusion of other religions. In Christianity, veneration of other gods, let alone human beings, is basically no-no numero uno. Pagan symbols in popular culture are the kind of thing that get many Christian conservatives so worked up that they start banning books and condemning, say, Harry Potter. Yet here we have the Orthodox Church actually blessing them in the real world. Mind-boggling.
Wow
Map didn't show initially, screen was just black and then just a very short clip of the map. Thank you for the week's update, I enjoyed listening to what the headlines are in Russia, very interesting! I appreciate that you are not sugar coating situation in Russia, that's really helpful.

@@russiaincontext cheers mate good channel
I can sort of tell that you don't want this to be a divisive channel and perhaps not take a hard stance on certain issues. Am I wrong? The migrant stuff is something that the prospective "refugees" from the West definitely will not want to hear. It goes along the lines of what you said about how many of the expat channels are showing that everything is (non-LGBT) rainbows and butterflies. In fact, the migrant issue is a real, tangible issue that I have observed first hand in a town outside Moscow. I don't have an issue with these people for the most part, but they tend to overcrowd and overtake, without desire to immerse. Let's just say it isn't like it was in the Soviet times where people were quite mixed (forcibly?).
No, I have no problems with taking a hard stance on certain issues, but I find that in most cases hard stances are either frowned upon by the powers that be here, so I tiptoe around certain things, or the issues are more nuanced. What you said about migrants is spot on, however, and a good example of this: it's not good, it's not bad, it's complicated
@@russiaincontext Yeah, understood. Thanks, and you're still the most genuine ru-expat on youtube as far as I can tell.
No, there was no forced mixing. The majority of people from other republics stayed in their own regions and rarely moved elsewhere. The reason for this was that the Soviet Union provided large subsidies to these republics, and life there was quite good. It was common for people from the Caucasus to visit as tourists and buy out items in stores simply because they had more money, and locals often complained about them purchasing scarce goods. A good example would be Tajikistan (which isn't a Caucasian country, but still relevant). They received a lot of subsidies, and life there was relatively prosperous compared to some other regions. Add to that the warm climate, plenty of fruits, and a generally comfortable lifestyle. After the fall of the Soviet Union all these countries gained independence, but life quickly deteriorated, and over the last 30 years there hasn't been much improvement. Now, considering that, along with the fact that the previous lenient migration policies (I hope the government continues to reform and tighten migration laws) and corruption made it easy for a single migrant to bring not just their own family but also entire villages of people - most of whom are uneducated, unsocialized rural "folks". And these "folks" have become a source of problems and crime.
@@Pavel105 I think the forced bit may be a reference to the Stalin-era deportations
Putin didn't mention nuclear tests, that's correct. But other politicians have floated the idea. I don't think I said it was Putin, did I?
It's good to hear all perspectives. Appreciate your videos. I think sanctions have backfired for the West. Here in Australia, the cost of living is unprecedented. Homeless tent cities in capitals. People living in cars. Full blown communism. Videos like yours are helping to weigh my options up. Look forward to future videos
I've always wondered why the Russians never renamed Kaliningrad as they did Leningrad, Stalingrad, and pretty much every other city named after a prominent Bolshevik. Some see this exception as a gesture of dominance over Poland; in March 1940, Mikhail Kalinin and five other members of the politburo signed an order to execute, in cold blood, over 25,000 leading Poles - intellectuals, clergy, and military officers, leading to the Katyn (Катынь) massacre. For this reason and others, I personally only ever call the city Königsberg; I can't abide the honouring of war criminals. All that said, I hope you enjoyed your trip there. I'd love to check it out myself. Maybe one day, in a different world.
Yeah, I prefer the old name as well and when you go around, you'll see lots of people use the old names (like Cranz instead of Zelenogradsk), I just use Kaliningrad so there isn't confusion with most (I don't expect the majority of people to be familiar with the history of the region)
There also was Kalinin named after him, and it is back to being Tver nowadays, and another (small) Kaliningrad that became Korolyov. I think the fact that the old name isn't slavic also has some weight in the case of Kaliningrad. The slang name of it is Кёниг (Kʲonig) anyway
@@sodinc I always forget about Tver being Kalinin during the USSR. Might as well mention Noviy Arbat in this discussion as well)
heh, think the poles would prefer the oblast to be named after Muravi'ev or Suvorov😁?
