Trump and America’s 250th: A New Era or the End of an Empire?
Empires last around 250 years on average. In 2026, the USA, born in 1776, hits that big milestone. So, if history’s got a sense of humor, 2026 might be... interesting. And yes, Trump could be the guy to throw the party.

A new golden era
Climate change is not a USA challenge. The climate will change as it wlays has. The only health crisis we have is Big Pharma and the Health Care Industry driving health care premiums to the moon. All the while, the health care needs of the people are actually neglected. It's all about what the insurance pays. The message of the author of this video, is the same unpopular and outdated message that resulted in the red wave. Tragic.
Straight down the gurgler under corporate fascist rule.
Thanks for this. Very insightful.
I had only vaguely heard of Tagore. Thank you.

Well said. Even though many of us Huxley fans were thinking this, you've put it into words
They may not shock us to hate books, instead they drag us through 10-12 years of school which to most is torture that insures most will have PTSD around learning anything. I'm 55 and have only come across a few people in all those years who read non fiction. This of course is by design to insure people don't rise up and take what's theirs. They give us alcohol, gambling, sugar/salt/fat, porn and entertainment to keep us dumb and controllable.
Switching off the screen now.
LOL - I'm doing the same now :)

Read it few times since a teenager and every time I do, I am just so amaze how so close Aldous Huxley predicted the future, i.e. :- " People are engineered, conditioned, and controlled to consume endlessly and remain happy through distractions, chilling vision of mass production, mindless consumerism, and societal control" but I never could envisage it would come about in my lifetime and to my great regret, I unknowingly helped it come into existence by being an IT Trainer.
Superb. You've captured the prescience of Huxley's novel well.
Thank you so much for your kind feedback. This means a lot. All best, always.
With Brave New World, the two great 20th Century works of fiction, in my opinion. The topic of this video is enormous, so I'll only address one aspect. Yes, we have evolved to become not only a bifurcated society... ...but one in which both "sides" now diminish - even dismiss - a third reality, objective, historically verifiable facts. The easiest one to presently explore is the build-up to the Ukrainian war and its multi-billion $ cost to the West & its people.
In other words, "Anything might happen." May I present a possible outcome? The mostly American US settlers want to return to their homes after a year away. Let's say they do. Then they'll be like sitting ducks for rocket attacks. Then what? 😨
The clue is here - Bibi is Israel's longest-serving leader - 17 years in total and still counting. He's like Holy Roman Empire - neither holy nor Roman. The episode rightly said the super power dictatorships will screw things up seriously for the world. Obviously, Bibi is behaving like Israel is now a superpower!
Really great explanation of this miraculous, fascinating and dynamic country.
A very nice place to visit.
Ixrael is an artificial colonial state dumped into the Levant. It has no legitimacy according to the native population. Oct7 would never have happened if the Palestinians were peacefully content. Very much enjoyed this, though I felt something was missing. When reading Kafka, my overall impression is of a slow asphyxiation... ...the sense of which is difficult to relay in an analysis. You are hampered when perhaps a Film score might not be and I can unfortunately offer no solution, other than to say, "Good work".

What a polite response. Forgive me for being taken aback, I expected the usual misrepresentations and lies you get from the left, but you gave an honest, rational, reasoned reply. My points were simplistic because I was writing a response to a UA-cam, not a history of slavery. They were factually correct and successfully got my point across. I should have mentioned your presentation was well done; I just disagree with its implications. Jane Austen was a product of her time, some of her older relatives had profited from the slave trade, but three of her six brothers were actively against it. The late 18th and early 19th centuries were a classic time of moral and social change, with the young as is common in history, being the most idealistic and motivated. We do not know if Jane Austen would have been as strongly against slavery as her 3 anti-slavery brothers were, but there is a letter where she expresses admiration for the abolitionist Thomas Clarkson. Perhaps we would know more clearly what her beliefs on the matter were if she had enjoyed better health and had lived longer. She didn’t, so we don’t.
You must be a woke leftist, to make the woke leftist view of Jane Austen dictated to you by the loathsome hypocrites of contemporary academia. You need to know some history. It is true that the British and the United States indulged in slavery. John Lok was the first Englishman to have taken enslaved people from Africa in 1555. The slave trade in the British Empire was abolished 1807 slaves in the colonies being freed in 1838. In the U.S. the 13th Amendment of 1865 abolished slavery in the United States. British and U.S. slavery combined lasted 310 years. It was a pre-existing trade they got into, stayed for three centuries, were disgusted by it and got out. Africa, the ancient world, the Islamic world into modern times, Asia and pre-Columbian civilizations of the Americas all had slavery for thousands of years. Why doesn't the woke left write scathing criticism about that? It doesn't suit the woke leftist narrative. Then British sent the Royal Navy out to arrest slave ships and free slaves. This cost the lives of British sailors. The British were willing to spend blood and treasure to free people from slavery from another race. It had never been done before. You were not told that at university. It doesn't suit the woke leftist narrative. The British slave traders bought their African slaves from other Africans who had been making war on and capturing their fellow African men, women and children as slaves for thousands of years. African slave traders also kept selling African slaves to the Muslim world well into the 20th century after the Royal Navy stopped the trans-Atlantic slave shipments in the early 19th. You were not told that at university. It doesn't suit the woke leftist narrative. There is still Africans being held as slaves by Africans today. You were not told that at university. It doesn't suit the woke leftist narrative. The United States fought the Civil War to free the slaves. They were the 2nd people willing to spend blood and treasure to free people from slavery from another race. You were not told that at university. It doesn't suit the woke leftist narrative. You had a huge cry over the injustice of Jane Austen not mentioning African, or other races in her novels. It might shock you to learn that her culture, and the people she saw in it were Anglo-Celtic, not Bantu speaking Swahili's. You were not told that at university. It doesn't suit the woke leftist narrative. Did you know Jane Austen had non-white predecessors? You were not told that at university. It doesn't suit the woke leftist narrative. The Tale of Genji is a classic work of Japanese literature written by the noblewoman, poet, and lady-in-waiting Murasaki Shikibu around the peak of the Heian period, in the early 11th century. Shockingly there are no Bantu speaking Swahili in it. All court Japanese I'm afraid. So why don't you have a real cry over that? What, no sharp criticism of Murasaki Shikibu? That would make you a hypocrite, except you're a woke leftist- and hypocrite and woke leftist are the same thing. Then there are the pre-Jane Austen Chinese novels. The Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Water Margin, Journey to the West, The Plum in the Golden Vase (of the Ming dynasty), Dream of the Red Chamber (The Story of the Stone), and The Scholars (of the Qing dynasty). Shockingly not a single one has a Bantu speaking Swahili in it. All Han Chinese people. What, no raging criticism over their lack of racial diversity? But of course, you're a woke leftist- and hypocrite and woke leftist are the same thing. Saudi Arabia abolished the legal status of slavery in November 1962, only 62 years ago. Muhammad Husayn Haykal's novel Zaynab is in Arabic and was published in 1913. The story deals with a beautiful young peasant girl named Zaynab and the three men who strive for her affections: Hamid, the plantation owner's oldest son; Ibrahim, the young peasant foreman with whom she falls in love; and Hassan, a slightly more well-to-do peasant who enters into an unhappy arranged marriage with her. An early liberal critique of arranged marriage, the veil and enforced seclusion of women. But there is no racial diversity in it, and no condemnation of slavery that still existed in the Arab world at the time. Make a post condemning the work for its lack of diversity and deafening silence about slavery and I'll admit you are not a hypocrite. But you won't. So you are.
Thank you for taking the time to comment on the episode. However, your arguments tend to oversimplify complex historical and academic discussions. While it’s true that many civilizations practiced slavery, the global influence of European colonialism and the transatlantic slave trade had an especially profound impact on shaping the modern world, as explored by Eric Williams in Capitalism and Slavery. This acknowledgment doesn’t dismiss the wrongdoings of other cultures, but it does help explain why Western colonialism and slavery are often at the center of discussions on global inequality. While other civilizations engaged in slavery, the sheer scale and systematic exploitation of African labor, combined with European imperialism, laid the foundation for the modern global capitalist system. The critique that scholars only focus on Western slavery while ignoring non-Western oppression is not entirely accurate. Historians and academics have thoroughly examined slavery, colonialism, and human rights abuses across many cultures, including in the Arab world, Asia, and pre-Columbian civilizations. However, the focus on Western colonialism and slavery is due to their disproportionately large and lasting impact on shaping today's economic, political, and racial structures. Slavery in the Arab or Asian world, though significant, did not have the same enduring influence on global capitalism and racial ideologies as transatlantic slavery and European colonialism. Critiques of authors like Jane Austen are not about imposing modern standards of diversity. Rather, they aim to understand how literature reflects the societal structures of its time, including those influenced by colonialism and slavery. Thank you!
A tough one. While I'd hardly disagree with most of the post-Colonial critique, my reply would be, "So what?". Austen was of her time, oblivious to - possibly, unable or unwilling to grasp - the hypocrisies and inhumanities of her era. Can we consume any media of any time created within a colonial era that has not been similarly tainted? Should we stop binge-watching the later series of the sitcom, BATMAN [1966-1968], because of its lack of commentary upon the carnage of the US-led war in Vietnam [arguably 1954-1975]? Should we stop listening to any of Rock'n'Roll's golden era [1955-1985] because of its [virtually complete] lack of ecological awareness? A small seam of elite scientists presently believe we stand on the precipice of an Insect Apocalypse that may see global food chains not only disrupted but entirely destroyed, with billions threatened by famine. Should we abandon all contemporary Art because of its lack of Awareness of this existential threat? Hardly. As I wrote of Austen; she was of her time. Let her remain so.
Thnaks so much for your feedback, Really appreciate it. I totally agree the fact that Austen, or any creator, did not address the hypocrisies or crises of their time does not necessarily diminish their work. However, it does open a space for readers to reflect on what was omitted and why. We can appreciate art for its contributions to literature, culture, or entertainment, while still acknowledging its limitations or blind spots. In the same vein, media from any era, including the golden age of Rock'n'Roll or the Batman series, may not directly engage with the socio-political issues of their time, but that doesn't strip them of cultural value. What matters is not necessarily whether every piece of art addresses every critical issue, but how we, as modern consumers, engage with that art, recognise its context, and use it to inform our understanding of the past and present. I strongly oppose the idea of abandoning media or art simply because it doesn't address specific crises. Instead, we should acknowledge its historical context while encouraging thoughtful discussions about what it represents and what it overlooks. Let Austen be a product of her time, but let us remain mindful of our own. Thank you 🙏
@@SE4SL Thanks for the respectful, well thought out reply. We are in accord! 👏
A good introduction. I'd have liked a little commentary upon the Church and the Reformation, though to bump the video up to 10 mins.
Is Nova Scotia new Scotland? Did Scottish people emigrate to the North American Continent?
Yes, the name "Nova Scotia" is Latin for "New Scotland." The region was named by coloniser William Alexander in 1621 when he was granted a charter to establish a Scottish colony in the area by King James VI of Scotland (who was also James I of England). This coloniser was also involved in the Scottish colonisation of Charles Fort, later Port-Royal and Long Island, New York. Not a nice story, I'm afraid!
Hmmm. This is a tough one, because your argument is based upon academic thought and theory, of which I have no experience. So, I don't feel "qualified" to comment. My reaction to Peterson is more visceral; I hadn't heard of him until my twenty something son asked me to view one of Peterson's videos. After getting over P's irritating whine, I found it easy to counter his glib arguments, as he makes so many sweeping statements about History and Society; with many of them glaringly incorrect. However, one has to isolate each assumption from his diatribes, unravel his many interconnections... ...and that can be both tiring and irritating. After doing that a few times, I gave up. Why bother? His whine is a selling tool; a wounded "look at me" that seeks to find other bro-s in a dimmed down hood. "Agree with me," he demands of the gang and unfortunately, some do.
I thought this episode is very good. Nailed it. The Conversation link in the recommended readings is fascinating.
Exaggeration fuels conflict. Peterson knows that he, himself, is flawed beyond what he understands and so is the west, obviously. Otherwise we would not constantly be flirting with the idea of collectivism - collectivism is easier (not better), as it centralises all decision-making-processes, thereby enabling group-think and a total atomisation of the individual. Your way of thinking seems, to me, to be a bit on the utopian side of things, as it would seem your value of an idea is embedded to the person, and not the idea itself. The collectivist viewpoint imagines a utopia wherein everybody is the same - and everything has equal value. It is a society bereft of any form of discriminating or exclusion, and aims to make everybody, despite of individuality, the same part of everything.
Thank you - this is very insightful 🙏

Dude, when your brain is cranked up by hacks like Shapiros, Petersons and various Islamophobes and right-wing crackpots you’re definitely going to end up in all the anti-intellectual conspiracy theory rabbit holes - probably, you're already there! If you think your anti-intellectual culture wars only hurt the marginalised people or minorities - you're wrong. History tells us - you lot will eventually hurt everyone - yes, including you. The self-destruction of Nazi Germany in the Berlin bunker in 1945 symbolizes the ultimate consequence of a fascist ideology that prioritizes power, control, and racial purity over compassion, democracy, and human rights.

Karl Marx held few jobs and was essentially a moocher. He was supported a great deal by Friedrich Engels, a businessman. Otherwise, Marx depended on capitalism to allow him the opportunity to condemn it.
Dude, the truth or falsity of an argument is independent of the circumstances of the person making it. Marx's analysis of capitalism was a theoretical and empirical critique of how the system operates, not a reflection on individual circumstances.Especially, his critique of capitalism in Das Kapital, is based on a rigorous analysis of economic structures, labor relations, and class struggle. It is a minute examination of how value is produced and how surplus value is extracted in a capitalist economy. The strength of Marx's arguments comes from their analysis of the systemic nature of capitalism, not from his personal financial situation.

How do you come to the conclusion that he is a right wing extremist? Because he thinks communism doesn't work and had the facts and history itself to prove his point. On another point name me a communist country that exists today that functions properly. Your titan has no proof on his side of the debate because communism has failed miserably resulting in huge amounts of lives lost everywhere charlatans hsve tried it. DUDE, you just aren't that bright but probably have extremely nice parents who gave you way too much of everything as a child except for responsibility and discipline.

Thus channel has smart twice in the title yet the title of this video was written by someone who has obvious mental difficulties . Two compare these two men is to ask " WHAT MAKES A BETTER SANDWICH ANY TYPE OF FOOD OR POISON" 44 subscribers is 44 more than thus channel suould have.
Dude, try to write something meaningful. Add evidence and describe the facts. Also, please learn how to write proper English - this channel is amazing if you care about education!
@wonderfullife1999 one nah wrote about a system that works. One man wrote about a system that ends in mass death and tyranny that has failed to work anywhere it has been tried. So only a fool would compare the two because they are incomparable . It is a an asinine comparison on its face. Anyone arguing about these two men's work is wasting everyone's time including the fool who thought it was w comparison in any sense. Like comparing the nutritional value between edible food and poison. If you don't know the difference you are fool
@@wonderfullife1999 I don't believe " write proper English" the way you structured your sentence is writing English properly., jackass.
@wonderfullife1999 you just got schooled by someone you were trying to school. Your burnt. So it wouldn't surprise me that you think this is an apt comparison
@wonderfullife1999 and to just assume I was a man is rather presumptuous don't you think braniac?
nice
Excellent, a creative work merits appreciation.
This theory has been proven wrong time and time again.
Thanks for the comment. The Labour Theory of Value as proposed by Karl Marx is not universally accepted in economics, particularly within mainstream (neoclassical) economics. However, heterodox economists continue to support the LTV. It's never been decisively "proven wrong" in a manner that would end debate on the subject. Instead, it remains a critical part of the discourse in political economy, continuing to offer insights into the dynamics of labor, value, and capital within capitalist systems. Thanks.
