Otervika Beach Hike, Andøya, Norway: Challenging Coastal Hike (with detour to Måtind)
Otervika is a beautiful hidden beach on the Island of Andøya, in Arctic Norway.
The Hike is quite challenging and typically possible only at low tide, as part of the coastal trail is on exposed rocks submerged at high tide.

Þakgil Red Trail Loop with Huldujökull Panoramic View Detour
Переглядів 23421 день тому
A video of the Red Trail Loop in Þakgil, with a detour to the epic Huldujökull panoramic viewpoint. I had already visited the Huldujökull panoramic viewpoint a few years ago, but as I was back in Þakgil to hike the Red Trail, I could not pass up the opportunity to visit it again. The Red Trail, however, is more than worth a visit to Þakgil by itself. You; 'll pass by beautiful canyons, quintess...
Hiking in Iceland EP 24: Grænihryggur Hike Via Jökulgil
Переглядів 2132 місяці тому
A few years ago I attempted to hike to Grænihryggur, or the Green Ridge, via Jökulgil but had to turn back due to how much snow there still was on the trail. I then hiked there via Halldórsgil in 2022, following the marked trail in that area. Then in 2024 I finally made it to Grænihryggur via Jökulgil too. This is the video of that hike (with some drone footage from the first attempt). Do note ...

Markarfljótsgljúfur is a spectacular Canyon located in the highlands in southwest Iceland. There is a trail on each side of the Canyon, and both are only reachable via F road F261. the road is quite rough, although not a difficult drive if you are used to the highlands F-roads. Both trails are easy, and the views are just epic. 00:00 Road F261 00:24 Markarfljótsgljúfur Canyon West Side Trailhea...
The Ghiacciaio Fellaria Hike - A Day at the Italian Glacier Lagoon. Glaciers, Waterfalls and Ibex
Переглядів 1594 місяці тому
The Ghiacciaio Fellaria (Bellaria Glacier) is a glacier in Italy and it's part of the Bernina Range. The glacier lagoon at Ghiacciaio Fellaria formed only in the early 2000s as a consequence of the Ice melt. This is an absolutely stunning location, where you can find a lagoon with small icebergs, epic waterfalls, and - of course, the beautiful glacier. Ibex too on occasion - which I saw during ...
Hiking in Switzerland EP 15: Stoos Ridge Trail - Klingenstock to Fronalpstock Panoramic Hike
Переглядів 3247 місяців тому
The Stoos Ridge Hike between Klingenstock (1,935 m) and Fronalpstock (1,921 m) is one of Switzerland's most popular ridge trails. This is all for good reasons; the landscape is amazing, the trail is nicely maintained and not overly difficult, and the trailhead is easily accessible. No wonder it is such a popular hike, even in a region full of great hikes like Lake Lucerne. Here's the full hikin...

Hatta is a small mountain right behind Vik, on the south coast of Iceland. the hike isn't particularly difficult, although quite steep in places. At 7.15 KM long, it normally takes about two hours to get to the top and back. the views are absolutely worth it, especially if you are looking for a quiet place away from the nice but crowded town of Vik. Hiking in Switzerland EP 14: Hiking to the Steingletscher, with drone video
Переглядів 31710 місяців тому
The Steingletscher is a beautiful glacier in the canton of Bern, right above the Sustenpass. This is a rather hard hike, mostly on a T4 difficulty trail with lots of unstable rocks and some steep sections that require minor scrambling. What's so special about this glacier is how close you can get to its beautiful crevasses without having to walk on the glacier itself. Here's the full hike repor...
Hiking in Switzerland EP 13: Overnight in the Alps with a random hiking Sheepdog - Bernese Oberland
Переглядів 18311 місяців тому
This happened a couple of years ago. I had planned to spend the night high up in the Alps, to visit the Mattenalpsee and the Gaulisee in the Bernese Oberland. On my way up the mountain, I met a very friendly sheepdog, who, for some reason, decided to tag along on this hike. The dog followed me even up very steep sections of the trail that required scrambling. Slept by my bivouac at night. The f...

Hiking in Iceland EP 16: Hiking the Mælifell volcano - drive via f232 and Bláfjallafoss
This is so magical! I would like to hike this place too! May I know when did you do this hike? There was some snow too. Is it safe to hike?
I did it in mid March. The snow had just fallen and there wasn’t any ice. Whether it’s doable in winter depends entirely on how much ice and snow there is, but regardless it’s best to have microspikes. I still would not recommend this to someone with no winter hiking experience. Apart from winter, it’s a safe in summer, but stay at due distance from the cliffs
Great hike and great video. For everyone who wants to do this hike: do not go when there is high tide (tour and retour). If there is a lot of wind and waves the safest way out might be up the mountain. Each year we have to rescue many hikers that underestimate the route along along the coast. Check with the locals if you are not sure about the weather or the tides. Have a safe journey.
Thanks Cathrine - I'll pin your comment as that cannot be stressed enough, and I mentioned it as well 4-5 times on the related blog post. Btw, I really liked how well the trail was marked to make it as clear as possible in the most difficult passages, even with hands and footholds painted on the rocks.
So we did this on October 4th on a rare cloudless morning. beyond a doubt one magnificent hike. We hiked from Skogafoss to to bridge in 2.5 hours, stopping at each waterfall along the way. Definitely great way to end our trip in Iceland though my legs were sore after 5 hours. I will always remember this hike which is part of one of the top 10 hikes on the world.
Glad you had such a great time, sounds like a great ending to your Iceland trip!
Thank you for sharing this video, this is exactly what I'm looking for. I will have a trip planned in next April and I am planning to do this hike too. Just wondering when was this video taken? Anyway, thanks for your sharing, love it!
Thanks! This was taken in mid-May. Best to be prepared for possible Icy conditions at that time of the year. I had micro spikes with me, though I didn't have to use them. Anyway enjoy the trip!
Hi. Can you share exact dates of travel.
This was actually taken back in 2017, if I remember correctly I was there between the 7th and 16th of September of that year.
How long did it take you to get down? Difficult hike ?
About 40 minutes. Not a difficult one, and it is marked - thought there is loose gravel in places so it can be a bit slippery, especially when wet. Best to have a waterproof jacket when passing by Haifoss it’s like raining down there :)!
Great video and an amazing site with beautiful and useful hike info. Thanks!
Thanks Anna, glad you enjoyed it!
Schönes Video
Danke Roman!
Great video and fantastic scenery.. well done. C Would you mind to share what trail.you were hiking and where it started please? I didn't see you using cable car or gondola to get there. How long and difficult was that hike? Thank you if you share these infos. Kind regards Rob
Thanks Rob! Yes, the view of the Aletsch glacier from there is amazing. I started this hike in Fiescheralp. It's a 16.4km loop hike with a total elevation gain of 890m. Apart from the length, this hike is moderately difficult, meaning there are no scrambling, steep, or exposed sections. You can reach Fiescheralp with a cable car from Fiesch, do the loop, and once back in Fiescheralp you can take the cable car to the Eggishorn, or hike up there. You could also do the same loop from Bettmeralp, but there are two cable cars to take and it's considerably more expensive. Anyway, in the description there's a link to the detailed report of the hike, how to get there, and an embedded Komoot map from where you can download the GPX file of this hike if you want to do the same loop. Feel free to let me know in case of any other questions!
How long is that hike from the parking lot in time ?
About 1/1:30 hours to the waterfall
@@thephotohikes Thank you 'D
You’re welcome!
The road to Haifoss is not marked and my GPS directed us on a very rough road that scared us. we were not alone because other drivers also were confused how to reach Haifoss. So we never got there, a pity.
Thanks for the comment, Tom. It's an unmarked track indeed. I haven't been there in a couple of years now. Since then the road likely deteriorated even further due to traffic.
Nice video, thank you. Thinking about traveling to Norway for hiking and the via Ferrata.
If you ask me…go for it ;)!
👍Nice
Thanks!

Thanks! Glad it's useful, that's the main reason I share this content. It's a very beautiful area, I'm sure you'll love it!
Amazing views!
absolutely loved them!
Amazing! Which month did you do the hike? Looks like July/August?
Yes it’s a very beautiful location. This was the last week of July
Iceland is spectacular, such a lovely panoramic views my friend!
yes, the south coast of iceland always deliver!
Hi Marc, great video! Switzerland is one of the places I would very much like to go to with my 2 drones. Lovely waterfall. Just subscribed to you. Jackie (from uk but living in Spain).
Thanks! Yes, it's a very beautiful location you'll have fun there!
What a beautiful scenery. This looks just amazing my friend, Switzerland is breathtaking!
Yes, it’s a very beautiful location, thanks!
Subscription done - only because of the dog 😍
Yes she was the friendliest sheepdog I've ever met in a pasture :)! loved hiking too apparently
@@thephotohikes love, thanks for documenting it 🥰
Such a beautiful and atmospheric presentation! Scenery is simply outstanding my friend!
Thank you very much!
when was this video made?
Hi Michael - that was filmed in July
Graet video ! I'm going to Iceland from March 9 to 18 ? Is it possible to access this canyon ?
Thanks Jordan! Maybe; it really depends on how much snow and ice there will be at that time. You would have to cross a small ravine half way through the hike I'd imagine that would be the most difficult part. You can always try and turn back if the trail is too sketchy, but it would be best to have some microspikes or a pair of Yaktrax just for extra safety. Hope this helps, enjoy the trip!
Wow, this was simply amazing work my friend! Such a great atmosphere 🥾🥾
Thank you! Cheers!
Is it possible to get there in october?
Hi Ugo - normally it should be possible in early October, unless the weather is particularly bad. Late in October, it may be a bit of a gamble since the road is not serviced.
What a stunning hike my friend! Outstanding scenery!
It was!
Fantastic shots. Great job on the video, friend. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks!
Awesome!
Thanks! Easily in my top 3 hikes in Switzerland
Great hike and views.
Thanks!
That's a great video. I will always cheer for you in Korea I'm looking forward to a great video. Have a nice day.
thanks so much have a great day too!!
I have visited Iceland twice. I tried to visit Haifoss during my second trip to Iceland but could not see the waterfall because of the very low visibility. I have to go back to Iceland in the future.
That's what I also tell myself each time I come back from Iceland...I have to go back :) Seriously, hope you can catch it next time you visit! In the meantime, happy holidays!
Spectacular panoramic views. Many separate pools can be seen from above.
Thanks, yes the panoramic views from up there are truly spectacular!
Absolutely spectacular work, shots are phenomenal here my friend! Simply powerful and phenomenal!
Thank you very much!
Very interesting video ;) What was the month of your hike ? Looks like a bit snowy but not too cold...
Thanks! It was actually rather warm, and it was late may, but there was quite a lot of snow late in the season last year
Thank you very much for your help. Love your videos @@thephotohikes
Thanks so much!!
Which time of the year was this?
This was early August
I just read your email about the Troll Rock Formation, excellent photography as always. Do you have any video of this place? I would dearly love to watch this. Thank you for all your beautiful work, Jim. Portland, Oregon USA
Thanks so much Jim! I don't actually have one from this particular location but I have seen a few on UA-cam, so if you search for Hvítserkur, you should be able to find them
Wonderful waterfall, amazing surroundings! Congratulations! ❤
Thanks, it is indeed a very beautiful location!
Norway is epic. And through your lens, it even looks more impressive. Fantastic work on this piece of hiking film!
Thanks Mario, true Norway is really epic!
What is this absolute garbanzo out the wazoo texture quality?! did you steal this camera from a tent under a bridge while some grumpy man shouted at you? Look at the cliffs and all the rocks that doesn't even look real what kind of garbage camera manufacturer is that?
True 0:33 fake looking steps 1:31 fake looking cliff on left 2:38 fake looking waterfall and rocks Then DJI footage at the end looks normal
Great video, thanks for sharing. You mean 6 hours time for the hike in total (up & down)?
Thanks! Yes, around 6 hours for the roundtrip. It is rather slow going, mostly because of mud and rocks.
Wish I had more time to explore this area. Love it!!
Thanks! ...it would be time well spent, and a good excuse to go back :)
Was here just one week ago. Definitely worth the drive and hike. My joint favourite Waterfall alongside Dynjandi ❤️🇮🇸
Glad you made it, yes one of my favorites too
This landscape in Thakgil is magical, absolutely amazing scenery. I have wonderful memories of this place. Thank you for your video that reminded me of my experiences on the trip to Iceland.
