Lumix S9 Insta360 Hate | Time for some real talk
It's been a few weeks since the whole Insta360 debacle started with the reps asking Sponsored creators to not disclose it's a sponsored video, now all the Hate toward creators over the new Lumix S9 release and viewers saying these creators are a shill because they were flown to Japan and "maybe" given the camera for free. Honestly, WTF does that have to do with anything? Do you REALLY think someone is going to ruin their reputation over a free camera?
Are there Shills out there? Absolutely !, but not that many and a LOT of creators are genuine of their reviews even if they got a product for free or not.
And with the Lumix S9, all the creators I mentioned in this video DID point out negatives about the camera, but yet there are slack jawed trolls out there that have nothing better to do that to sit behind a keyboard and try to put someone down to make them feel better, if that's the case, I also have some advice for you in this video !
Do better, be better and how about trying to be kind !

A sad goodbye to "Ole" Betsy

A sad day indeed, as I am not the kind that normally gives up on something but more and more things were failing on her with the brutal Texas heat and her age, plus maybe, I'm just getting too old for it. As an audience I don’t feel any jealousy on paid trip as creators have to do their jobs on work, finding some feature on the product that attracts their audience, it’s a fair game. The drama on Panasonic is people are expecting something great, a legit FF camera that comes with fair price. With such big expectations people are disappointed with the S9 and also those creators who can’t response as their video are rush to publish.

    Didn't know that you have a backstage channel - very nice surprise. The whole discussion in the past weeks is getting a little awkward already. You point to some extremely important facts - creating a video - especially creating a quality video - takes a lot of time and resources. Which for the majority of the not too big channels cannot be covered by UA-cam's adsense or so. In the end of the day - if money is the incentive to be on UA-cam, I feel that a creator can hardly be called "unbiased" or genuine. If a creator is on UA-cam to get "free gear" - it is about the same. Honestly, I am not sure what happened around Lumix. More familiar with the Insta360 saga, and it is a fact that more and more companies see us, youtubers, as some quite well targeted directions for creating hype and sometimes - free way to project their own strategies. And this will continue for as long as channels such as TechMagnet and similar continue to exist. Freebies, travels, hotels and meals are a common thing around so many big exhibitions - and there are lots of folks that gladly go this way and they feel comfortable with it. I've been invited to some events by brands too, but based on what I've seen happening to other creators during such kind of exhibitions - this doesn't align to my value system and what I believe in. On the other hand - I feel that UA-camrs are the most vulnerable crowd out of all journalists and influencers. I know a lot of fantastic, decent, honest creators like yourself, that do it for fun and because they believe this brings value to the community. Even those, who have questionable ethics, are in my opinion often wrongly blamed. Because - yes, on exhibitions many brands invite tech youtubers. Byt why does nobody talk about mainstream media? The big websites, newspapers, forums, TV, radio... Seen some that have a "subscription" to certain brands, and often oversee some important negative aspects of products reviewed. Being based in Bulgaria, I can see how 3-4 companies get huge loads of attention, and this even happens on websites which are totally off the scope of technology. So... I feel that people should look around and apply the same level of criticism to mainstream media too. Everyone has biases. It's a matter of ethics, loyalty and dignity. Guess something that we rarely see these days...

      Hey there, Yes the entire Insta360 deal has brought attention to those channels that are in it for the $ over integrity and most of the embargo videos feel like an advertisement, and I'm not saying it's bad to make money, but then disclose that it was a paid sponsorship, and even with the FTC here in the U.S. we have to disclose it as a sponsored video even when only getting an item for free for review, because the value of the item is considered "payment" to a degree and the sponsored video box must be clicked. There is still a lot of us that are honest in our reviews/opinions like yourself and its up to the viewer to decide who is trustworthy and who is not.

    Wow as someone who's a youtuber myself for over 10 years it's astounding how naive you seem. I don't wanna go into all the details but you only see it from the creator side and can't really put yourself into the shoes of certain viewers. I'm personally very sceptical in general and i've seen many reviews of products I had myself and I've seen it time and time again how much sugar coating is going on on youtube. Most reviews hightlight the same marketing bullet points and neglect to talk about the downsides. You seem honest and legit and you have that perspective, maybe that's why you have a hard time seeing what many big time youtubers do. I'm not saying all are shills or whatnot but most are too soft on the products for various reasons. Just watch a dozen S9 reviews and listen carefully. All talk about the same positive things and are some are very deperately trying to find excuses for the obvious downsides like the stupid record limit when the camera doesn't even overheat for 1h and I only found one youtuber who actually cared to test how long you can record if you keep hitting the record button after the limit. That's cruical information and no one seems to wanna provide it, those kind of missing information and other excuses are the reason why people got pissed in particular about the S9

      While I do appreciate your comment and some points you make, I am far from being naive. I’ve also been on UA-cam for a number of years ( 14 years on my 1st channel). Regarding reviewers that didn’t talk about negative issues, that’s why I mentioned it in this video. At the end of the day it’s which reviewers a viewer feels gave an overall balanced and unbiased review and that boils down to how connected the viewer is to the creator.

    Well said Andre. I am not a yes man either and always try and be honest, as that is the way i was taught. My honesty in sales has paid off tremendously over the years. I have also lost sales in various fields, because of my honesty. But that is fine, as i will never be called out not disclosing an issue as i see it.

    Negative responses are a normal function of a bored mind, driving in a car is a perfect example of how people will curse and yell which inside their car at other drivers, the internet and UA-cam is no different. Jealousy is the main factor in this behavior. Like you said, if a creator points out some things as cons tends to make the viewer more likely to believe the creator. Great video and topic, as there is nothing wrong with making money, Creators are not Unicef

    From 94-2002, all Dodge dashes fell apart! I replaced my 2001 last year, about a 16 hour job, pain in the butt! It’s better to buy after market than junkyard, because the junkyard one will do the same. They didn’t put the right kind of additives in the plastics when manufacturing them. The aftermarket ones are better material. Replace the heater core while you’re at it, even if not leaking, you don’t want to have to take the dash out again, trust me!😢

    • @WORTHITORNOTBackStage
      @WORTHITORNOTBackStage 9 місяців тому

      I looked around, but could only find aftermarket dash tops, not the entire dash unfortunately. I decided to donate it to Junk for Joy to benefit the kids. They sold it at Auction for $1,200 and every penny went to Junk for Joy and I got a tax write off so it was a win/win in the long run.

    To answer your question: Yes, it bothers me because I know how things work. Those youtubers profit from the viewers trust. I'd go so far to call it deception and fraud because they say "buy this form my affiliatre link" but omit to speak about the issues of that product. Is like the youtuber's the say the ZV1 has GREAT image stabilisation as if I'm blind and don't see the same video. They are lying and also think we're stupid or something. Been researching the camera offerings for quite some time now and kind of know what to expect form a video review. Stood way from gopros because of reliability issues seen in the comments of mostly every youtuber that praised the camera.

  • @hayabusaTravels
    @hayabusaTravels Рік тому

    See the Action 1 lens disassembly but it cannot be done correctly because the hole lens/sensor housing is one module impossible to tear apart without possibly inflicting major damages. The housing is plastic welded and if you apply too much force, maybe you hit the sensor and you're done. Maybe DJI ordered it like that so no one could atempt making better or even doing maintenance. PS: I found used Osmo Action 1 in very good condition under 100$. Want to replace my SOny FDR X3000 with a minimum 2.7k @60fps capable camera that can also do external mic and power at the same time. Image stabilisation is also a must as I use it on my motorcycle travels. But so far I haven't found a worthy successor that has the FDR versatibility and reliability.

    I've watched a lot of review and comparison videos of this camera before and after buying one and the focus issue was addressed but not in the form of a problem. The comment was "it has a softer image than the GoPro 11". Since I don't do vlogs it was not an issue for me. I recently worked through an audio problem I was having so I'm very happy with the Action 3 and in time I may buy a second one to do some multi-cam videos like I did with the Garmins.

    As a Chinese, I don't see DJI admitting in China that they have a problem with the lens module. Instead, DJI spends a lot of energy giving cameras to college students and letting them do free advertising. At the same time, a large number of DJI supporters also appeared on the Internet, and they kept attacking those who pointed out DJI problems. It's so disappointing that he can't even admit it back home

  • @jariperho

    There are a few things at play. Most "reviewers" are simply marketing people that regurgitate the companies press releases. Others don't compare cameras and treat them, as if nothing similar was ever produced in the past. Some have a ready formula for their review and it keeps repeating to the point where it doesn't matter what camera is being used. It's also really hard to be critical of a product, when you can lose special access to new or free gear. You're not going to get an all expense paid vacation to place X by company Y, if you haven't given their every camera in the past nothing but praise. Andrew Reid warned about this growing trend a long time ago.

    14:10 That stinks! It's a dismissive response from a reviewer who is operating under NDA from the camera maker. They get an early look at new gear in exchange for blocking disparaging viewer comments about the product. Also, in this case, it sounds more and more like DJI was aware of the focus problem and required high-profile UA-camr reviewers to sign non-disclosure clauses about the poor focus itself. It had been detected, remedied, but since earliest-assembled product was already in the shipment pipeline, their own customer service staff would deal with problems on a 1-by-1 customer satisfaction basis. In a very quiet way. And, the thing can goes, very cost-effective way since many action camera users might not notice the focus problem at all until it's too late.

    • @WORTHITORNOTBackStage

But imagine if top-viewings new-gear channels passed on this camera altogether? All we'd see is "Why aren't you reviewing the new Osmo Action?" That would make bad noise, for themselves as well as DJI. So those guys take the safe route, and this time they limit their stories to spec and feature comparisons, staying silent about perceived quality.
