To avoid cross threading the screw (the problem), just push lightly on the screw and turn the screw counter clickwise (the way to normally loosen screws), when you hear and feel a click then start turning the screw in normally. This works in every case on every threaded fastener. Get into the habit. You will be glad you did, never a crossed thread. Important for things like spark plugs which cost a fortune to fix if you did cross thread.

God damn it I've already screwed them into the door too. But thank you for the video. I'm glad I'm not the only one being driven mad by those stupid hinges.

I have been trying to get the screws in the hinges for at least an hours. They keep getting stuck and I don't know what to do!

Well done for posting this video. I spent an age persevering with the IKEA instructions. I then watched this video and had the doors on in five minutes. Thanks very much!

I must have assembled 100 pieces of Ikea furniture over the last 30 years. Their instructions were foolproof. Until Havsta. I did one cabinet according to the instructions. Just the hinges took 2 hours. Then I decided to use the method Ikea USED TO USE for their hinges (like when I did my kitchen cabinets). I took the hinges apart and screwed the proper parts into the doors and the cabinet, then connected the hinges. This is obviously the way the hinge manufacturer intended. I guess enough people were putting hinges on backward (on either the door or cabinet or both) because they DIDN'T FOLLOW THE PICTURES. Then they couldn't understand how to connect them. But with all the screws, you have to know which one will separate the two pieces, and inserting the door piece into the cabinet piece requires a sliding motion that is hard to describe in pictures. If you want to use my method, I suggest taking a hinge apart and playing with it before your attach it. It will become obvious how to insert one into the other. Oh, and since the two hinges on each door are different (one has the soft-close feature) you have to keep track of which is which. I put the hinges on the doors as instructed, then figured which hinge was the top (per instructions), then disassembled one hinge at a time and installed that piece on the cabinet (one door at a time).

I agree. Always separate the two parts of the hinge first, and attach to their respective places.

Thank you so much! This is definitely the way to go. I tried the alternate way suggested in the video and although it's better than the instructions, it's still super hard. Taking the hinges apart was a game changer for me. For anyone struggling with this IKEA nightmare, just know that if you're patient you'll get it right. The cabinet half of the hinges have to be flush and solid against the cabinet. When you slide the door halves on, there's a small learning curve on getting them just right but you can do the top hinge without worrying about what's going on with the bottom one so it's pretty easy. I just finished number 5 out of 6 cabinets. Whew! Wasted 4 hours trying to do the first cabinet according to the instructions. So cruel of IKEA!

Great idea & design ! I only have 1 though I would do to cause less attention to my house is if you painted the metal the same color as you’re house when if the enemy is going down our streets the metal does not draw their attention they keep walking by ! That’s why I used 8mil security film x 3 each window on the front yes it will still break it should slow them down by about :01:30 seconds to 2 minutes given me time to prepare ! + I have 2 bay windows with 4 windows in each window display ! “ Great job “

Should of put lock inside they break lock whole thing is useless

If lock is inside, the hasp becomes the weakest link because it is mounted mainly from outside. Also, inside mounted locks force owner to remove window screens to get to padlock...which I don't want to do.

Also, since sheet steel is almost flat against windows, definitely no room for padlock on inside.

Thanks so much for this Brian, I was chuffed that I managed to put a 6-cupboard Havsta together alone but the doors really defeated me for a week until you put this up....makes PERFECT sense, and I've now managed all the bottom cupboard doors but the screws on the remaining are stuck fast in the hinge, can't release at all, so will need to get replacements from IKEA - apparently a well known problem!

Brian...Not being a smart a$$ but...why not install the padlocks to open from the inside? just asking. On the outside, it´s just matter of time for some burglar to get in.
