Is htousehold manager also a chief of staff?
No, they have different roles. The HM focuses on keeping the house operational (mechanical, staffing, personal asset management, and daily service), and depending on the organizational structure, the CoS has a more strategic role, focusing on all staffing (outside of household operations, family office, and business ventures), budgets, project initiation, procurement, etc.

A lot of the time, I would expect "you aren't a good fit" comes down to "you make me feel uncomfortable." This can be due to issues that are frankly a 'them problem' -- they don't like the employee's race, for example -- or it could be a matter of personality style conflicts.

OUR SITUATION - My wife and I live in the Northeast, and we are in our late 60's and thinking of buying a property that will suit our possible future "Live-In" help. We were looking at a 4000 sq ft home with an in-law apartment but after viewing your post I am now thinking of an off-site residence like a comfortable apartment above a garage for the domestic maybe a better option. My neighbor had a "live-in" from Thailand for 20 yrs and their situation worked for them very well. This is all new to us and must be researched further.

What does a driver do when im not going anywhere?
Hiring a driver can be a huge commitment. They may only be busy some of the time. Many professional drivers have backgrounds in law enforcement or security, so that's a plus if you need protection. If you don't need a full-time driver, contract with a car service.
When you find yourself continuously, after onboarding period, coming back to the same team member and discussing opportunities for improvement and trying to develop plans to improve performance but they still don’t respond accordingly and don’t improve, can you start having documented discussions about that and having them acknowledge that and sign them? How do you start preparing to severe a relationship and let someone go? How is this executed?
It sounds like they aren't the right fit. There are some very kind and specific steps you'll need to take to separate from an employee to give them every opportunity to succeed. But in the end, if they aren't the right fit, you want to terminate them and find a better fit. Ideally, you do some research for those procedures in your area.

I don't have any specific advice, but I know it's a tricky situation when a couple has all of their eggs in one basket.
This is now my 3rd year being a House Manager. After my 13yrs of experience from hospitality. I found this job greater ever. I know it happened cause mashallah,,, my principals are really great people…!!!!
There are very few online resources snd videos about family assistants. I watched a couple of your videos but it is apparent that your target audience is a wealthy client with large estates. Do you have any suggestions for an entrepreneur mom who needs help with household duties and personal assistant?

Hire a second shift! Remember, it's WORK (even if they live on the property), and no one should be required to be on call 24/7/365!

Yes, agreed. 100%. But please consider the lives of the people who work for you and their personal lives and privacy. Everyone deserves that. I suggest hiring contract security to work once a month (or whatever is appropriate) so you have maximum coverage and security. Best to you!
