Sonny Rollins - Without A Song lick end of A2
Переглядів 133Місяць тому
I love this solo by Sonny Rollins; I've transcribed it by writing it down before, but not actually drilled it in from memory on the horn, so trying to correct that. This is the first really cool lick at the end of the second A section. Starting slow and bringing it up to speed.
Rhythm a Ning

Another fantastic backing by @EdwinsJazzJam , this time on Rhythm Changes, so I decided to really nail my demons and get Rhythm-a-ning down. Spent about half an hour on loop with Charlie Rouse prior to recording it! Hopefully that pesky rhythm sticks this time..... Link for the backing - ua-cam.com/video/IBgX7488m5U/v-deo.html

I Remember Clifford - Saxophone/Bass Duet with @MrSunnyBass
Hello Mr. Darwin, I have followed with great interest your comparison with different reeds on the Tenor Saxophone, Is there a likewise test for Alto Saxophone as well? Actually I'm playing a Buffet Crampon saxophone with a Selmer D mountpiece and Vandooren Java Red 2,5 reeds. I have the Vandoren Red 3.0 also but find it difficult to play soft (playing in Concertband). I was - and still am a educated drummer for more than 40 years but wanted to learn the saxophone. Don't ask me why, maybe just because I love the sound of the instrument. Wanted to purchase a Tenor Yanagisawa 900 series but a somebody advised me not to for the time being because of possible tone loss on my Alto. True of false? I'm not justified to an opinion on that matter since I only play saxophone for three Years now. How ever, the topic of the reeds is of great interested while I tested a few already. The Selmer D with Vandooren Java Red 2.5 does it for me but that doesn't mean there could be some improvement in sound using another brand or type. I'd be happy to learn more about it. Kind regards en thank you so much for even the smallest reply.
Alto reed comparison video is here: ua-cam.com/video/PbzeCFXjrb8/v-deo.htmlsi=RBBB3Dp-_zw0jNEQ At three years in I would probably suggest sticking to one horn for the moment while you get more comfortable, but whether that's tenor or alto depends on which you prefer: I would go with the one you like best, have players you prefer on that horn etc.
Im gonna start calling you plazz darwin K
So smooth. I dig this! Thanks for playing along to my backing track. You breathe life into this song!
Pleasure playing to them, they're great! Looking forward to doing some more!
Nice playing! I think you interpret the head really well - it sounds amazing. I like how your solos have lots of space and build throughout the tune. Thanks for playing along to my backing track!

Rigotti wild are amazing reeds
I've never tried the wild ones. How do they compare in terms of sound to the Rigotti Gold jazz?
@matt-darwin Never tried the gold jazz ones 😂 sorry
Good practice 👍
Repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat hehe
Love it! You've got nice phrasing and pacing throughout. I feel like I'm actually playing along with you haha. As always, thank you so much for playing along to my backing tracks!
Awesome! Thank you! But it's the same too that it feels like you're responding to the lines I'd play. So much to listen to and bounce of as you would live. Really great backing tracks; I'm trying to spread the word!
@ thank you so much!
Chords ?
Absolutely immaculate tone! I wish to sound just like you in the future.
Thanks! Long tones, ballads, overtones.... and a lot of listening too!

Magnífico trabajo Matthew, ha sido genial, felicidades una vez más desde Madrid y buena semana, like 1
👌🙏🏼
i love you man
Man great sound! What's your recording seup?
On this, microphone is a SAMAR AL95 ribbon, through a Warm Audio TB12 preamp (on the vintage transformer and pushed a bit). I also often use an EV RE20 or a Lauten Audio LA320 tube condenser; and very occasionally a multi mic setup. Post prod, Valhalla Vintage Verb for reverb, and then a little compression from Kush Novatron and some high shelving with a Kush Clariphonic (hardware).
Greatjob K
Gracias por este regalo de interpretación con el saxo, me ha gustado mucho mucho, enhorabuena una vez más desde Madid y gracias Matthew, like 5
Нормально дуеш)
Not sure if Google translate is getting that one down right!
Cool vid. What preamp did you use for these?
They're the preamps in a Scarlett 3rd gen, air mode on.
What mic do you use? I have trouble finding good ways to mic up my tenor.
This one is using a Lauten Audio LA320, run through a Warm Audio TB12 preamp.
Good job 👍🎷
Thanks for listening!
