Lord Melody - Weather Man Lying (1962)
B-Side to Melo's Twist, this is a remake of a song that was originally released on a Kiskedee 78 in 1949 (the earliest confirmed record Melody released). It was cut around the same time as the Lord Melody 1962 LP and the single Sugar Daddy. This is one of the rarest singles in Melody's discography, and seems quite lyrically relevant nowadays. Transferred from my own copy.

Lord Melody - Calypso Showcase (Stereo Remaster)
Переглядів 2119 годин тому
Presented by Alvin Daniell, who originally uploaded this video with sound only coming out of the right channel. I remixed it into stereo and also did a little noise reduction and colour correction. This is a superb historical document with some live and interview footage of Melody from the 80s.
Lord Melody - The Complete Balisier Recordings
Переглядів 47714 днів тому
This collection includes the complete known output of Lord Melody on Balisier records, backed by Cyril Diaz, recorded 1957-1958. The songs Sparrow Ugly Too, Dog's Company, Capitol Site and Englishman's Party were all only recorded for this label, and it's the only recording of Man In Dey I have (the other being a rare Vitadisc version that eludes me). This label was bought out by Cook in the la...
Lord Melody - GEMS Classics

Lord Melody - GEMS Classics This is a collection of most of the recordings Trinidadian calypso legend Lord Melody made for the GEMS label in Guyana between 1954 and 1957, when he was backed by Al Seales and his band. Some of the songs here, such as "Sugar Cane" and "Robbery" were only recorded for GEMS. The track "Little Boy Blue" is also a rarity as the only other known vocal version is a Vita...

Ronan Keating - Pickin' Me Up (Alternate Lyrics)
Переглядів 1,1 тис.Місяць тому
Written by Gregg Alexander and Rick Nowels. The lyrics were changed on the final version to be less political. Taken from an in-house promo CD for Destination, probably from mid 2001 as it predates the inclusion of "Time For Love", "Joy And Pain" and "We've Got Tonight". Listed as "You Pickin' Me Up" on the CD, which is how it's copyrighted in the BMI database.
Microdisney - Barbed Wire Rainbow: The Alternate Crooked Mile

This homemade collection is the follow up to my Clock Comes Down The Stairs era collection "Time Stands Still for A While". Microdisney began writing Crooked Mile in late 1985 and it was released in January 1987. During this time they signed to Virgin, who wanted the band to produce hits. As such, the released album was produced by Lenny Kaye and notable in Microdisney's discography for being d...

Second collection of live covers covering the latter part of Microdisney's career. Arranged for flow rather than chronologically. 1. Down In The Bottom (Howlin' Wolf cover) 2. Fucking Hell (Unknown, but seems to be new lyrics to an old tune) 3. Holy Cow (Lee Dorsey cover) 4. Fighting Side Of Me (Merle Haggard cover) 5. Drifter's Escape (Bob Dylan cover) 6. Microdisney - Cover Versions '84 - '85

Compilation of covers the band performed at various dates in 1984 and 1985, arranged for flow. Some of these were regulars in their set and some were one-offs. They showcase the band's influences, versatility and at times their sense of humour. I will upload a separate video of their later covers in the near future. 1. Promised Land (Elvis Presley cover) 2. Who'll Stop The Rain [Cathal Vocals] ...
Microdisney - Crooked Mile Demo Tape (1986)
Переглядів 7812 роки тому
Early versions of songs from Crooked Mile that are less produced and occasionally have different lyrics. "Angels" has a more uptempo arrangement than the final album version, and they played this version live at least once. This tape is rumoured to have been provided to a fan after the Town And Country Club 30/04/86 show, which featured three of the tracks being performed live for the first tim...

B-Side to the cassette version of "Singer's Hampstead Home". A remixed version of a 1986 Peel Session track, which the band never rerecorded or played live. Ripped from my own copy of the tape.

This show is significant as it includes a version of "Angels", the only live performance of it I am aware of (it is performed in its more uptempo demo arrangement) . It also has the earliest performances I have of "Hey Hey Sam", "Mrs Simpson" and "Ring Around England" . It concludes with a unique rearrangement of "Teddy Dogs" in a different key to the studio recording. Enjoy. 1. Big Sleeping Ho...

One of the most unique Microdisney setlists out there. We have "This Liberal Love" and "Helicopter Of The Holy Ghost" reintroduced to the set after months of not playing them in the UK. Live versions of "Humane" are rare enough, and this is the only time I have seen it repeated as an encore (something the band would later do with "Birthday Girl" and "Town To Town"). This might be the first time ...
Microdisney - Live At London Crown And Castle, 17th May 1984

This show is one of the earliest I have and the most representative of the Everybody Is Fantastic period. Most of the songs from that period would be dropped in the next few months as the songs for Clock were gradually introduced to their set. Obviously an audience recording but still very listenable. 1. A Friend With A Big Mouth 2. Sun 3. Pink Skinned Man 4. This Liberal Love 5. Loftholdingswo...

Microdisney - Fanning Session (Mid 1983)
Gorgeous.
Of all the bands that should have been huge, they should have been huge.
This is the definitive version of Toyota City. Why they truncated it for the Travelogue album remains a mystery to this day given it's the best track by far. One of those tracks that still sounds like the future.
Turn it up!!
"the World Bank lets all the black kids starve while journalists stalk all the pop stars And Hear’Say’s the new kings of rock ‘n’ roll" - Heeeey Macarena!
Gregg Alexander was saying similar things in interviews in the New Radicals days, so this track is no doubt one of the candidates for the second album that never got made. What is surprising is Ronan agreed with the sentiments enough to sing the lyrics, commercial potential be damned.
"Former Boyzone star Keating has travelled to Ghana with Christian Aid. He added: "I met Ghanaian chicken farmers who are struggling because of pressure from cheap frozen imports from Europe. "The government in Ghana, like governments in many developing countries, is not allowed to help its farmers with subsidies or protect its own chicken market with higher tariffs on imports. "When they did try, the IMF put pressure on the government to back down.""
I like how he rhymes 'African genocide' with 'right by my side'
That's left in on the final version too, amazingly.
Little bit of politics, there...
Love it! 💌
P.S.: Thank you!
DIA TI APETHANE EKEINE KAI D'OUK EKEINOS?
Oh it’s lovely! Thanks Mike 🙂
This is brilliant the lyrics are so clear.
Why RTE has never officially released the Fanning sessions in the same way as Strange Fruit did the Peel ones amazes me. Hopefully someday they'll all be available.
Cathal was notorious for blocking the release of archive material, so I wouldn't be surprised if he was approached and said no. He only seemed to warm to this period when the Iron Fist In Velvet Glove documentary was made. It is great music though and Giordai's guitar playing deserves to be heard by a wider audience.
"It's alright if you do it, but you mustn't enjoy it" 😂😂😂 RIP Cathal, a genius.
What? and when?! I'm slightly foggy in the chronology let alone the cod funk. Sounds great though. Many thanks
The original Microdisney existed between 1980 and 1982 and was a five piece punk-funk band that had Giordai O'Laughaire as lead guitarist. The group played a lot of gigs in Cork and Dublin, cut a couple of home recorded demo tapes, a live track on Reekus (National Anthem), this radio session, and two tracks for a single (Victory/12 Novembers). Giordai left before the single was due to be released so its release was cancelled (It later ended up on Reekus' Too Late To Stop Now compilation as well as recent Kaught At The Kampus release). When Giordai left, Cathal and Sean abandoned all the material he had been involved with because they didn't feel they could replicate it (a pity, because there was at least an album's worth). Sean became the band's only guitarist with Cathal taking up keyboards to balance out the sound, but the bassist and drummer soon left so the two ended up using a drum machine and reconfiguring the duo to be more of a minimalist post-punk group. "Hello Rascals" became their first release instead. When in the UK in late 1983 Cathal and Sean sought out some local musicians to make it a full band again, who contributed to some tracks on Everybody Is Fantastic. The lineup was finalised by the time they started writing for The Clock Comes Down The Stairs and remained consistent for the rest of their career.
@@mikespencer9352 wow i had no idea despite purchasing WHUSAB and EIF at the time, admittedly because of the lyrical content. Many thanks. The ending of the Documentay was very emotional wasn't it? I interviewed Cathal in a small Cardiff gig in January 1991 for a Welsh language Radio show but no tape exists in my house unfortunately. Still got my hole-y Against Nature t shirt. ... Your channel is essential.
@HippoYnYGlaw Great to hear. I can also recommend the audio documentary Iron Fist In Velvet Glove: An Oral History Of Microdisney, which covers the early period in detail.
Lovely stuff, cheers!!
What's the origin of this footage? Was it broadcast on TV?
I adore Dale Voice!❤
Sounds like an early demo version. Quite raw/ unpolished. I love it!!!
Why isn't the original version on UA-cam or Spotify? 😢 Did they removed Welcome Home Armageddon?
I have the same doubt.
Chuck Wild Keyboard man!
A super underrated group! Musicians and Vocalist specials! Terry Bozzio, Dale Bozzio, Patrick O'Hearn and the keyboard man whose name can't remember plus Warren Cuccurullo at guitar!
What a find. Bless you.

2024 still on fire 🔥🔥🔥😎👌
That little doc brought it all back…. Hearing them on Peel’s show, recording their magnificent sessions on cassette, buying the first album, searching out their gigs in the south east, going to the gigs with the rest of the skatebparder crew, playing that album and tapes to death, meeting them pre gig and ordering them a pint over a chat, feeling frustration at why the hell they wouldn’t ”lift”, being proud and happy to have gone to so many of their wonderful gigs, sorrow at the split from my mates in England and getting out of the loop after my move to Sweden and to cap it all - hearing of Cathal’s demise. I still play their music nearly every day. Long live Microdisney!
Love this song regards mike ❤
Love it! Cathal always looked to me as if he was telling the audience to fuck off using the most eloquent lyrics imaginable. Fantastic band!
One of the Best Calypsonians ever and my partner, Melo.
Brilliant!!
Best Nite Flights version EVER
Tiene un aire a Tears for Fears.
Tremendous!
40 anos atrás ❤️ uma música muito melhor que várias da atualidade.
Say what!
What a great find 👏
merci
Awesome thank you. Sadly, despite having found Peel in 1984, I managed to totally miss every Microdisney session, otherwise I would have been at this as a fresh faced 17 year old. As it was I caught a repeat broadcast their last session by which time it was too late. Thankfully I did see FMs.
Golden age of wireless was a very under rated album
An amazing album start to finish.
wow. bassist doing some interesting stuff. amazed they got signed, seems too interesting, even for the experimental 80s. cheers.
A few of these I haven't heard before. Where does the LP title come from, anyone know?
It's a lyric from Rack (I believe).
Still great
I never appreciated them until about 94.Always good at festivals.Keep music Evil.
It was Peel that brought me to Microdisney. I was in a hospital bed when the first session was aired and, being somewhat out of it on hospital drugs, remember floating to the end of my bed whilst listening to that session Subsequently saw them twice in Manchester, the first time bumping into them both in the street and Cathal asking if we knew where the venue was. I pointed out the venue and asked if they would be playing 586. They both took a step back, clearly utterly surprised, and asked, " You know who we are?". My mate and I had travelled 30 miles to see them and only knew the venue because we'd just had an early pint there and had headed off to find more beer. They did play 586. It was a really good gig in an intimate venue...a pub. Just right for them methinks. Second time was at Band on the Wall if I remember rightly and Cathal had probably had more to drink than I had. Live , wickedly gobby and exuberant is how I will remember him. Amongst all the wonderful other things, what about that voice?!? You've given me 40 years of joy, bless you for that.
That version of “sun” is diviiiiine.
This is just the version from the Intoxifornication album.
