Recovering IDRAC bricked by firmware upgrade
The IDRAC on my Dell Poweredge T320 died when I tried to upgrade the IDRAC firmware from version 1.35.35 to something close to version 2 (can't remember which exactly). With the dead IDRAC, the server takes ages to boot up, the fan goes on full speed and there is no IDRAC amber/blue light at the back.
This is a follow on from Junction Runner's good work. I wouldn't have embarked on this project if it wasn't for his videos. Links to his videos are as follows:

There's no way to fix it w/o soldering a new IC onto the mobo? I've got an older R320 (2012 vintage?). Thanks for any advice.
Wow. Congratulations. I guess some flux under the EMMC chip would have been good to facilitate solder flow, but lucky you it was fine!!
so after you put the exe file on usb what you do?

Hello, my r720 is also experiencing this problem, the lcd is not on and the indicator is not on. I would like to ask why we need to replace the emmc chip? Isn't it possible to swipe directly into the firmware? Hope to get your answer, thank you. I'm not a professional.
Taking advantage, I leave the card formatted and just copy the idrac7 firmimg.d7 file and turn on the server with the card connected. Correct?

Olá Então o meu troquei o chip e Idrac. A luz ficou amarela piscando. Agora não sei o procedimento para gravar o a versão do Idrac.

Hello, I'm having the same issue. I was able to replace the emmc chip. But I am having trouble loading the new iDRAC. I know it's been a couple years since you've done it, but you have any suggestions? Do I need Dell's flash cards?
Hi, I had the same problem as you on my T320. My chip is a hynix h26m31001fpr e-nand 220A I ordered a chip on ali but I'm not sure it will be a 220A does it matter and if so which one?

For those interested, this is the MANDATORY correct order to update iDRAC7 Firmware: 1. DELL iDRAC7 v. 1 . 66 . 65 (last standalone firmware) 2. iDRAC with Lifecycle Controller v. 2 . 10 . 10 . 10 (first release of common firmware) 3. iDRAC with Lifecycle Controller v. 2 . 50 . 50 . 50 (interim firmware) 4. iDRAC with Lifecycle Controller v. 2 . 65 . 65 . 65 (latest firmware) When these 12th Generation servers were shipped, the iDRAC and LifeCycle controller had different firmware. In Late 2014, Dell decided to integrate the iDRAC and LifeCycle Controller firmwares into a single package called "iDRAC with LifeCycle Controller" and the firmware is now common across iDRAC 7 and iDRAC8. The partition layout for the iDRAC eMMC was changed, due to which upgrades across legacy firmwares and the latest firmwares were failing, which was causing iDRAC to be permanently bricked with no resolution except for a motherboard replacement (inexpensive on ebay) or chip replacement (this video).
Something else to note is that sometimes the eMMC itself will fail, also requiring a chip or board replacement. :(
I did this on a R720. I couldn't get it to read the FW with a 4GB in the front SD card reader, but it works fine with a 2GB card
Hello, Malek, I have a Dell PowerEdge T420 that just experienced the same thing. There was a thunderstorm, I replaced the network chip now I have cpld version 100 the download does not go further Idrac reset the button - the calvin password does not fit
Hey mate, probably a stupid question but did you set your temp to C or F? Not that I'm particularly bothered but after replacing the chip my server won't do anything. Green light on mobo but no response to power button. Maybe it was a dodgy chip or maybe I need to flash it via the UART method (or I cooked the neighbouring chips because I didn't shield them!). Great video. Many thanks for the idea!
i looked up the specs on the 858D hot air station and its in Celsius.

Yes you can use it as a Windows PC but you’ll have to bear with the high speed fan noise and start up takes forever

@@wcypierrenet i'll be happy to help but do bear in mind I am no professional and not a qualified engineer/technician (I am an accountant by trade & qualification). Doing this as a hobby
