    I have 1300 hrs plus played on Bannerlord and I’m currently playing on a save game I’ve had going for about a yr, my starting character is retired and I’m playing as his heir. I’m playing on version 1.1.0 and employ 68 mods. Like I said before I have 1300 hrs plus in game but the difference in my campaign is the hrs spent off game on Nexus mods finding, testing, and implementing game changing mods. Everything from crafting armor to being able to command individual parties in my kingdom. Vanilla Bannerlord is very much a “game with so much potential” that does fall short but you can definitely fill in those gaps with mods, if you’re willing to put in the time.

    I feel the exact same way . I got it on pc and ps5 . It’s the probably the best game ever but it is like devs just can’t be bothered and I also hear they are working on scifi game . I think they should stop that and get some dlc released for bannerlord to expand gameplay like hiring spy’s to blackmail or spread rumours and assassins to kill rivals and a rival system so you can have a nemesis. Diplomacy is definitely a needs adding . May be uniting all kingdoms through trade could be a viable end game option. Bannerlord is definitely fun for the first few play thoughs but after that what’s missing slap you in the face.

    I came across this randomly when it first came out years ago and grabbed it and was pleasantly surprised how much it made me laugh, and just how easily it tickled my Bethesda game spot. I still have it now and recommend it to anyone who is burnt out on their current RPG offerings. It is somewhat linear like you said, but you still get the exploration feeling, without realizing you are lost at some points like in a true sandbox. I also do like how it felt seamless with its load screens and animations, unlike Starfield. Suffice to say IMPO, a banger title for what it is. Glad to see others appreciate this hidden gem.

    Generic FPS with RPG mechanics with choices that ultimately felt inconsequential and a narrative that can be summed up as "Capitalism is bad Morty, we need to kill the Captialists Morty!" The thing that really got me was there were no romance options but you can unironically get cucked by an "asexual" lesbian and the "good choice" is helping her hook up with another chick... I'm not even mad that the game itself was the definition of mid mechanics wise and it's at best AA in terms of scope, I'm just wondering what happened to the quality of Obsidian's writing went? Honestly, I’m glad there’s not too much forced story. I create my own narrative for each play through. You can approach it differently each time. And with mods there’s a ton of ways to enjoy it. Does it have everything? No. Can we imagine more? Of course. But for what it is, I think it’s brilliant. They never promised social dynamics like CK3. They didn’t promise any sort of city builder or city sim. They made an awesome medieval battle game. The only thing I could think they could have done better on was making a bit more reason to go into cities and towns. But on the other hand, the shortcuts are just a choice. I could easily just go inside and it’s actually nice they provide an option to skip it if you want. At the end of the day, each one of these medieval rpgs have their limits. I don’t think we can judge this game badly because it has some. Plus, if it were too much more in depth my laptop would have no chance running it. Lol

    • @timrorhus
      @timrorhus Місяць тому

      I'm against the forced story for this game, too. But collection of random events happening would still be complementary. Though it's not exactly the most important thing for me. And sure, I don't expect CK3, but a bit more logic and thought into AI and options of waging wars is what I find to be important. The game is just boring and sometimes even frustrating in mid to end game. Because AI can't handle stuff.

    I'm huge fan of this game but this game has major problems. There is no proper deplomacy, when you become a king or queen you don't get a crown until your kids become of age, you fight the same enemies over and over again and if your kingdom has any power you end up fighting multiple wars because vessels and the current ruler doesn't want to make peace. On PC I think the game is fine because mods fix those problems but as consoles player we don't get any of that until tailworlds adds it which at this point they probably never will because they let modders do their job for them. This game had potential of being one of the most unique games but they completely dropped the ball.

    @rottensquid Місяць тому

    I wouldn't say this game is better than The Witcher 3, not even close. How could you betray your proud Slavic heritage to even suggest such a thing? But seriously, to be clear, I love both games to distraction. And Ghost undoubtedly has a much better, deeper, and more robust combat system. It's also much easier to manage, as Witcher 3's menu is a poorly organized mess. I don't play action/adventure games to look at menus. Less is more. Also, this is a personal opinion, but I just don't like leveling. To my mind, levels are just a lazy means to lock off parts of a supposedly open-world game. "You can go anywhere, except if you're level one, you can't kill level 2 anything. Not even level 2 chickens." Regardless, I think as an over-all game experience, WItcher 3 has the slightly greater impact. Ghost of Tsushima is a great story, but Witcher 3 is a whole sprawling world. Because Ghost focuses on the specific point of view of a very specific character, Ghost must sacrifice a certain omniscience that Witcher can maintain. Jin has a moral position and stakes in every aspect of the story. Geralt, as an outsider, has the freedom to decide what side, if any, to take. And this reveals the advantage of Witcher 3's branching choices as a means of involving the player. Much as I love Jin's story, Geralt's story is the one I choose for him. He makes decisions as I would. And I play the story as an invested participant. While I simply watch Jin's story play out. I love both experiences, but I feel like Witcher 3 is an experience unique to games, while Ghost is more like watching a movie or reading an engaging action adventure novel. I think, too, Witcher 3 goes deeper into its stories. Ghost is richer and deeper than most games, but there's no character in it quite like the Bloody Baron. And I think too, this may be because your choices decide his outcome, so you get more nuance, more dimension to his character. If there was one improvement I'd make to Ghost, it would be to let the player decide how Jin handles things. For example, I thought his relationship with Ryuzo had a ton of potential. But because we as players are locked out of Jin's choices, beyond just conversational options, we don't have the option of deciding to forgive him or not, to see where that might go. Ryuzo's point of view reflected the larger story of the game beautifully. Jin's greatest enemy wasn't the Mongols, but the imperial hierarchy that forced his uncle to turn on him, that gave him no choice but to die or betray his identity. And Ryuzo, being of lower status, faced an even more dire situation, his men being asked to fight to the death for a country that lets them starve. The grim truth is that, by switching loyalty to the Mongols, they're trading one heartless dictator for another. But his betrayal was completely understandable. After all, Jin certainly chose himself over Ryuzo, ruining his former friend's prospects just so he could prove he was the best swordsman. It was all great backstory, but because we didn't get to choose how to react to Ryuzo, we're stuck with Jin just dismissing his former friend's suffering, and don't really explore the deeper complexities Ryuzo's story attempts to open up. I feel like the whole game was like that, all these stories about the way feudal society stripped people of choice, agency, and humanity. But ultimately, those stories go nowhere. They're portraits, because they never really change Jin. He remains resolved, and never even quite acknowledges how his own dilemma makes him akin to the rest of them. It's very Japanese, I guess. But when comparing to the Witcher 3, where you can choose how to react to each story, and direct its outcome, it doesn't quite compare. Now this isn't to say I think Ghost did it wrong. They made a choice in making the kind of game they made, and I love what they did. All I'm saying is that, given the choice, I'd rather more games like Witcher 3, with branching choices that dig deeper into the stories and characters, than more games that, even if their world is open, their story is on rails.

    • @timrorhus
      @timrorhus Місяць тому

      Hey, thanks for that comment! Yeah, I agree that witcher 3 is better overall. My top 1 game for sure! The reason why I compared it was because at points it felt close to it, it felt like the devs at Sucker Punch got some inspiration from colleagues at CDPR, which I would hope more studios would do and that was my main thing. Anyway, thank you for taking your time and writing this comprehensive comment, I appreciate it!

    • @rottensquid
      @rottensquid Місяць тому

      @@timrorhus Sure, my pleasure. Thanks for the response. I agree that Ghost feels about as close to Witcher 3 as any game I know, except maybe for RDR2. But Witcher really hits a sweet spot between directed story and player freedom. I think too much player freedom can rob a game story of meaning. It has a nice choice-and-consequence rhythm. It feels more authentic than some cheap morality mechanic. That said, I think the key difference between Witcher 3 and Ghost is polish. Witcher 3 is far from perfect. Everything is messy, from weird, truncated missions to sloppy mechanics. I just hate the whole bargaining minigame. It's so random and pointless, it drags down the whole experience. And everyone complains about Hattori's Blade from the Bits reward. But it's messy because CDPR was swinging for the fences, trying things, experimenting, biting off more than they could chew. That's how you get innovation. If I have to choose between innovation and polish, I'll take a little more from column A. Ghost is an incredibly polished game, and I'm glad of that. I think it would have been too much to ask them to also include branching choices and consequences throughout the game. That would have probably added years of development time. What we got wasn't a work of experimental genius. Instead, it was a piece of near perfection. There's room for both. Anyway, sorry for the long-winded comments. It's a busy day, and I didn't have time to write short ones. ;)

    • @timrorhus
      @timrorhus Місяць тому

      I can subscribe to everything you said. And yes, I believe the Sucker Punch had less creative freedom and, I think, more time pressure from Sony. Maybe that would've been a factor why there were no choices, except for in the end. RDR2 for me is a technical masterpiece, but it's, as you said, to much freedom for a player. I didn't finish the game in one go. It might be on me though, because I get a bit too wonder-y and try to get everything done before proceeding with the main stuff and get bored of that. So masterpiece nonetheless, but a technical one, with a ton of details, mechanics and physics. Witcher is truly special game, really. It was so good that I honestly stopped playing for like 6 or 8 months after it, because stories in other games felt a hit too shallow. By the way, as meme as it was I loved gwent on both of my playthroughs haha

There was some guy that gets killed if you don't win a hand, and there are a few quests that are built around it. So when I started the game over, I learned. And the game has a way of ramping you up carefully so you're never too outmatched. It's really a collecting game first. The best deck almost always wins. But it's almost criminal how fun it can be to pull together a perfect combo of moves. I love wiping out a whole row of high-level monster cards with just a frost and Villentretenmerth Scorch. I felt the same way after Witcher, and in all honesty, I kinda still do. Ghost is the closest. And I appreciate it so much. I feel like games spend too much time in development trying to cram in everything but the kitchen sink. I heard Cyberpunk 2077 was rebuilt from the ground up at least three times. I imagine it's a bit like when movies go before the camera without a finished script, like they're going to somehow find the story in shooting it. Sometimes that can work, but I'll wager it wastes a gigantic amount of time and money. Ghost seems like Sucker Punch knew what they were doing from the get-go. They had a plan, and followed it through. And I think they made a much better game than if they decided well into development to make it a different kind of game. Look what happened to Suicide Squad. Sony may have mandated they crank it out on time, but that's way better than if they were a WB game, and the suits kept changing their minds about what kind of game they wanted. Regarding RDR2, I also think it's a story masterpiece, though not all the side stories and world details feel like they have a point. I love the "Gavin" guy, but I kinda wish there was more too him. And I walk away from too many encounters feeling like I did it wrong because they didn't go anywhere. While most of Witcher 3's quests and world details are still rich and meaningful. The tragedy is, given how CDPR has progressed since, I'm not convinced they'll pull it off again with Witcher 4. The writers of the best quests seem to have moved on to greener pastures.

      Good point on shooting a movie without a script, I believe that's what happened with Cyberpunk 2077. And why it was so raw on release but I have to give it to them, they worked on the game, but as I understand it still someways off from what they promised it would be (I have the game, but I didn't really play it that much, I have to do that I guess). I mean, the ghost is for sure not a perfect game, but it felt compact and good-sized for what it is. They didn't bloat it up too much, which would've made it worse. I think that's why it feels pretty good compared to some other recent titles.

    Bro definitely didn't compare MidGhost with the GOATwitcher? Ghost is 8/10 at most. It's a great Ubisoft game that today's Ubish*t can only dream if accomplishing

    The Witcher is better for 3 big reasons. The first is that they are both very narrative/story heavy games, yet only one, that released 5 years earlier than the other, let's nearly all of your decisions actually impact the story. The only story choice in GOT was the very last cutscene. The second is combat variety. The individual mechanics of GOT are better, however using those mechanics to fight the same 4 mongols and 1 ronin over and over again is simply dreadful game design. The amount of golf armored Mongol with a shield that I fought for a 2022 game is outrageous. The third is quest content. Almost of all GOTs quests are just (1) follow NPC for 3 minutes while they talk (2) kill X mongols. There is absolutely no variety in any of the side, and most main content. The Witcher has you interacting with multiple mechanics, piecing stories together through environment, or letters found around, instead of an NPC telling me everything, and the end of those quests actually effects how the main story plays out. TW3 > GOT any day

      Good points, overall Witcher 3 is better and that's true when you compare it to any game, really. In this one, it just felt like they were taking inspiration from it at points, and I think it worked and made this experience worth it too

    I have 833 hours in Bannerlord, and many many more in Warband and Mount & blade, considering I was an early access backer. I don't use any mods at all. And I thoroughly enjoy it, I don't know why people seem to expect more from the game than it offers. It isn't meant to be CK3 or an RPG. It's a game for people who enjoy combat on horseback, and it gives you an excuse to do that.

      Fair enough! Just feels like a missed opportunity by the end game with some things added it could be so much better. Thanks for watching

      Exactly bro. It’s going to be ironic for me to say since I’m complaining about people complaining but it just doesn’t make sense to me. It’s a solid game. People who are always “it could have been more” are dreary. I know them in real life, and they tend to be drags. It’s like, can we just enjoy the good things we have here and stop living in some odd fantasy world (which again is ironic to say since we’re talking about a medieval fantasy game)? Lol. Like, I get people have opinions, but to give a negative review on a game you actually like despite it just not fitting your imagination is insane to me. Makes me wish more people studied epistemology and how judgement is formed.

      I mean, it's like 5x the time for a standard title + it's not an online game, and I have conquered the world multiple times and tried a bunch of mods while following the game development for years, even before full release. Is it still not enough?
