Behind the Emerald Curtain
Kate Taylor moved to Rockaway Beach, Oregon to start a fishing business. She immediately received notices that her drinking water was contaminated. Turns our her water comes from Jetty Creek, a privately owned timberland, 80 percent clearcut.
-- Go to pacificrivers.org to sign the petition to reform the Oregon Forest Practices Act --
Maia was in her home when pesticides from an aerial spraying on timberlands behind her house drifted into her home. She went to the health clinic to discover there were pesticides inside the clinic as well. She collapsed and had a seizure.
These are just some of the stories from Behind the Emerald Curtain. Watch it, share it, and help Pacific Rivers in its campaign to reform the Oregon Forest Practices Act -- the law that allows these activities on private timberlands.

Reality is a bitter pill that the State Board of Forestry and Oregon's Governing bodies have shoved down our throats. The fact is the timber industry has won and we the every day Joe are screwed.

I am a conservationist and botanist. Like most documentaries, this falls victim to over dramatization and hyperbole. I am in and around clearcuts all the time, as well as national forests and wilderness areas and there is no shortage of natural areas and trees in Oregon, nor will there ever be thanks to our "outdated" laws. The notion that they are poisoning our water is beyond ridiculous. If that were your primary concern, you should be targeting all of the agriculture land in the valley, not the hills. Logging companies are using a small fraction of the pesticides used in Oregon agriculture as a whole.
