Why would anybody become nostalgic about a modern phone, these are hardware coming as regularly and inconsequentially as software updates... besides, they have become way over complicated, their inner workings inaccessible, crappily constructed glued trash, and just overall shallow super fast and therefore boring devices. And EVERYTHING one could love on them is a service now. And said services are tuned to give you an interest rush for 3.2seconds tops. Blurgh...

3:12 - He was a guest when it was chronologically appropriate to your channel, now he is irrelevant. Seriously, i've known of Chronologically Gaming for an entire 2 minutes, and i know his shtick better than he does. These ARE just random misfits from all over the world, with cute animals and a computer in the background somewhere! What a fail.

I am greatfull this is being made, I'll buy one if sales lag and inventory needs cleared. Its not a main stream product its for the passionate 8-bit users. The emulator is nice the hardware would be nicer and I could use a sixth computer. I don't need a discounted on sale model I just want to wait until the passionate get theirs first. Post some sales goals and a timeline maybe. Being flooded with orders is not too good either.

Good coverage on the topic! Interpreted vs compiled, both approaches do have their merits- interpreted can take less resources (fit in 2K-4K ROMs), and easier to dynamically alter the behavior right in the middle of runtime (like scripting). PEEK/POKE became suitable for micros and single-user systems. In larger multi-user systems (like the earlier mainframes), you'd need to be careful on allowing such open access to main memory. Both VB and Delphi were great, I used both in mid-1990s as well. Also check out BASLOAD on the Commander X16, a new approach that adds symbolic goto, long variable names, and other features to the classic Commodore BASIC (while still running on-system).

Thanks for sharing the backstory about NVGM! I first stopped there in 2018, I remember the "Change The Year" lever to adjust the speed of transmitting the signal. My daughter enjoys doing speed runs of Oregon Trail. Every time we go, she runs straight to that setup. And you're right, that new-ish library next door is massive (nice place to recharge phones, and its T-rex exhibit is neat since the head swivels). Maybe something to consider: an archive of a complete play-thru of all these historic games. And, a "Hall of Fame" for famous game designers to come leave their hand prints??

Great talk! One important detail is that the Linc from Lincoln Labs and the Linc-8 from DEC are two different releases of the same computer. The first one was built by people receiving grants from NIH who participated in workshops to learn about the machine and then took the resulting product back to their laboratories. The idea was that someone who built a machine could then keep it running. These machines were built using DEC Modules, which was what the company started out with before getting into computers. The second machine was a commercial product from DEC and came out a few years later. Even later DEC did the PDP-12 which could run in either Linc or in PDP-8 mode (both designs had some things in common, which made this possible).

Where does HP timeshare basic fit in here? Many in my generation use this in schools. Our sysadmin had a multiuser version that ran on a single cpu and supported 4 terminals. I don't think it was based on 2000/Access.

Yep, I meant to add "...in the title" (where I was pointing) and clarify they hid the "first" claim in the description. I had changed that slide from the original and it tripped me up, my apologies. It's an important point, since I was curious on the overall communities' thoughts on this somewhat recent IEEE declaration.
