The Stains had just one album but a few one the songs, this one of them, are just brilliant. I so wish they had more albums out. I would have bought them all. Rage on all old punks.
Thank you for sharing. Here are the lyrics for all those of you who couldn't hear or understand what's being said in this song: Our leaders write the roles from behind masked faces Always hiding the reality of their true intentions And like puppets we act out the roles Of a tragedy that never ends And the plot always thickens as the death rate quickens And the human soul sickens with war always the means to the end So how many times must Rome burn Before the crucial lesson of history is learned? Power kills, destroy everything that power builds You're sucked into place by your own admittance Self imposed enslavement And though you curse your king how can it mean anything When you worship cult of leadership? It takes only one to lead but must the rest of us follow? The whole is but the sum of it's parts Do you act that part? Do you fit that part? And how many times will we rebuild Rome Only to watch it burn? Power is death Power is death
I've tried to resist jumping on the hating on greg ginn bandwagon but there is no reason why this went out of print. It was incredible stuff and maybe it was equal to or better than Black Flag. I'm not judging, I'm just saying. At least it"s on here. I had the ep, sold it, and regreted that dumb move ever since!
"Don't want no fun just give me a gun don't want no fun I'm on the run now I'm always thinking death suicide runs through my mind think I'm going to end it all wish I never met that girl.."
Yep, it oozes with the early magic of X and rockaBilly Zoom. It doesn’t need sparkling dynamics, pounding drums or layered choruses. Just John pouring his heart out and low fidelity.
You'd rather ruin two lives Then prevent a potential Can't make up her own mind Only a slip of a girl Starving babes don't matter To the fat who get fatter The Health Service will provide Some valium where she can hide A punishment for the mistake That she did not make They don't practice what they preach Just gorge on living meat You'll decide her fate for her Because you're no murderer Self-rightous and infertile You'll cut her and make her sterile Though inside it don't kick They'll perform scalpel tricks Worry furrows in the forehead When they tell you life is dead
Man, it is really bullshit how not as many people know these guys... Underrated as fuck. You think because they were on SST records more people should know. I am just lucky to have a cool dad who knows all the good music..
Cant believe they sat on releasing this album. You guys were so great, cutting edge, and rocked the f*cking shows.... one of my top 5 punk bands of all time!
Uh oh! Someone stole his motorcycle, and it happened just the other day! Another classic by this all but forgotten early 80s SoCal hardcore punk band! Forget everything you think you know about the early 80s L.A./SoCal punk scene! If you haven't heard The Stains, and their only classic album, you aint heard punk, Jack!
My father showed me the stains and we (kinda) had an argument about how he thinks the stains are better than black flag. What do you think? They are both SST records interestingly enough.
I told my mom I quit the scene, she told dad and he got mean, I took the car, I hit a ped, but that's OK cos I aint dead! They just don't write them like this anymore! Definitely a song to get rowdy and go nuts to!
This is PYST me and the homies saw them in Reno first real punk band to come threw since COVID and they fucked up ours we drank we bled we moshed we made our ancestors proud
someone have Lyrics?
This was their hardest track

Saw this group in Baltimore, 1986 with Black Market Baby and Reptile House if memory serves.
Absolute punk hardcore at it's fucking absolute best.
I got that vinyl LP in the 1980s
Most talented first wave punk band. Go watch the live videos!!

Laugh at me and I wont care!
Recorded in spring 1981 by Spot
I'm traveling to Germany in June and this is my theme song!
This will always be the superior version of the song, it's perfect.

They were much, much more talented than B.Flag, but Greg shelved their record for four years so Flag could rip em off.
They are both their seperate personalities, you guys just don’t understand My War and Greg Ginns guitar playing at the time.

one of the greatest songs of the times
you know it
One of the most underrated bands of the early 80's LA Hardcore scene. Was glad I was able to catch a few shows of theirs back then. Cholo Punx.
I randomly bought a vice squad punk collection/anthology CD when I was 15 and they're still one of my favorite bands.
Saw these guys at the vex in east la in 1981…so powerful and unlike any band I’ve ever seen 😳😂
great
Anyone remember the Riottitions from LA and South Central they played like 10 years ago
That guitar solo did NOT have to go that hard
these dudes are having a show next week !
Lafayette show it was siiiickkkk!!!!
Say I got no imagination Im so full of sexual frustration if pretty girls dont look at me,thats okay cuz Im still free
Intro sounds like somebody has been listening to a little too much Danny Elfman!
The best pharmacy parties are the ones that are not prescribed.
