Had to pull the mufflers out to patch a hole, had some temporary straight pipes in
Just what I needed. Thank you. Straight forward easy watching. 💯
So whats the torue specs on the bolts for the water pump and other bolts on the pulley?
Sounds great.
Thanks for this. Mysterious water in bilge came from leaking bolt/gasket on back of water pump back plate while running. Original pump 1988 Checkmate 350. Replacement went on easily as video described. Back plate and bolts and gasket is replacement part if desired.
I had a local dealer. Tell me that the water pump circulator pump is not the problem why your boat is overheating change my circulator pump stopped overheating. I’ve done it twice now. Remember folks circulator pump goes bad your motor can overheat simple even have your pick up Paul is great.
I’m in the middle of this currently and the bolt with 2 separate threads the nut only unscrewed from the block and the rest of it is still threaded in
Do you have a part number?
I’ve just noticed a spray from the area of this pump but it was only a few seconds then it stopped. I always have a small amount of water in the hull and assumed it was from people splashing water all over and getting in the boat dripping wet. Now I’m pretty sure it’s the is pump leaking once in a while while it’s running. Hard to determine where exactly it’s leaking though. Is there seals around the pulley shaft too?or just the two shown on the block? The way the water was spraying upward makes me think it’s the pulley shaft but nothing was mentioned about that. Any input on that?
Awesome thank you
nice job. So clear!
Is this the sea water pump?
This is the engine water pump, there’s also an impeller water pump/intake in the outdrive near the propeller. It brings the water in and the engines pump helps circulate it through the block and exhaust.
What year model is this motor?
This is a mid 90s engine. I have a 95 and it looks identical to this one
Mine is ‘96 Baja 5.7GM LX - looks identical.
you did not mentioned why you are replacing this water pump, what was symptoms to replace it. Would help others.
I totally agree what were the symptoms that required you to change the pump. although the part where the pulley mounts looks pretty loose so maybe the bearing were shot.
Great video. Thanks
I'm removing mine this week. Good idea to loosen the pulley bolts first!
Where is the impeller on the 5.7??
The impeller is in the outdrive usually alpha one outdrives for mercruiser. It’s down by the propeller
What are you issues when is bad pump?
Bearing making noise and the motor will over heat not pushing water into the block
Those pump bolts go clean through block into water jacket you need thread sealer on them not lock tite good luck cheers from Jax Fla
Teflon tape?
Will be doing this tonight or tomorrow once the part comes in! Thanks for the cideo
@CS Runner did you water pump leak?
Good video. Is this the raw water pump that sucks water up from the outdrive or does it just recirculate the water thats already in the engine?
There’s an impeller pump in the outdrive that brings water in to the engine water pump, the engines water pump does the work pushing it through the engine block and exhaust to keep things cool. So essentially you have 2 pumps in these.
Merci, thanks dude. Very nice video !!
my pomp leaks the hole below you know why?????
about to do mine thanks
Hey man they make a great tool for taking coolant lines off. I couldn't have lived without mine for the past 20 years.
post a link
@@GRD1 Its a large pick with a slight curve in it. Just google coolant hose pick.

@@GRD1 There ya go bud. Happy hunting. They make cheaper ones as well dont have to be snap on but ive bent mine a few times using it for other things and had to have snap on replace it. As long as you only use it on coolant lines it works fine and wont bend or break.
Great video. Thanks. I have a leak and I think it's the water pump. It's very hard to see because the engine compartment is tight. Yesterday I noted hot water coming from the bilge pump after driving about 15 minutes. I opened the engine compartment and noted a drip drip drip from the front of the engine that gradually slowed down as the engine cooled. So I'm thinking water pump. Any other possibilities? I guess a hose or cracked block? Hope it's just the pump.
@Icagee did you ever figure out what it was?
Sounds amazing. Are you going to keep it
Unfortunately we only had the straight pipes in while i was doing some r&r on the fiberglass mufflers
What did you use
why did you had to change the pump??
The part that holds the bearing broke and was spraying water into the engine bay
very good explanation. thank you
