I think the opening intro was done by the same people who did the intro to need for speed 2.

Even in 2024, NHL 98 INTRO still is the BEST! The gameplay also is amazing like NHL 14. Such a shame that NHL series fell apart forever ever since the PS4 port of NHL 15. 😭

I remember playing a league with my classmates back at elementary, playing against AI teams at home and occasionaly visiting friends at their place when we played agains each other.. saving results on a floppy disc that was passed around.. memories :)

Phenomenal Intro. Everything fits here: Music, Editing, selection of Scenes, Voiceover. Everything. By the way: The game was fantastic too. That was the time when EA still stood for the highest quality.

Awesome. Excellent. Terrific. I remember it pretty clearly and I still have the CD. I also remember I was so impressed when I bought a 3dfx (APAC Voodoo1) for the first time....I also remember I was even typing a message in Outlook Express asking EA Sports if they were going to release NHL99. I never sent it, though - I didn't have access to the internet then. I do miss the '90s... But it was too bad that it was really easy to score a goal in the game itself. I got really disappointed. Luckily, they mostly fixed that in NHL 99. Go Ducks :-)

There it is. I was looking for exact that intro (especially Arnott going into the box). After NHL 98 I knew 90% of all NHL players and their teams. Loved that intro, loved that game.

This game inspired me to join and play hockey when I was 7 , became obsessed and knew all the players on every team, hockey was way better In the 90's

I remember playing this in college. I wasn't even into hockey at the time, but the intro alone got me into spending lots of hours in this game.
