This is a short demo of the fascinating VL-1. Although it looks like a toy, it certainly is something much more - a digital synth that not only could be programmed but also could be used to do your taxes. The VL-1 ushered in the era of highly varied and experimental Casio instruments. It is at the same time humble and powerful.

The MT-45 has a sound that is distinctive from other Consonant-Vowel keyboards. There is a bassy resonance that is more akin to analog sound. The bass tone is especially nice sounding. The drum machine is a step up from the MT-70 with shift-register noise that sounds more metallic than plain white noise.

A new single from the Tubes, evoking a unsteady trip through space and time.

This is a custom ROM of the SCI Tom and a fine emulation of the real thing using a Kawai R-100. Also the features of the R-100 are still present, i.e. pitch changing, stereo panning, and touch sensitivity. This demo only uses the Tom voices for the R-100 with no external effects. There is also a Linn Drum 2 ROM that might be fun to test out in the future.

Casio SK-1 is an interesting mix of features. It was one in a lineage of Casio keyboards that were highly experimental. Calling this keyboard only a sampler misses a lot of other fascinating features that are unique to this keyboard and no other, not even other SKs. First, it has a rudimentary digital synth.
