    This is great information. I am currently a practicing women's health nurse practitioner. I recently learned of this role and probably have met several MSL's without realizing it. I have started collecting data on this role and if this might be something I would consider as a career. I am a little amused and now enlightened about how hard it is to get access to us. I feel this advice is spot on though. As a WHNP in a BUSY OBGYN practice, I understand the other side as well. Many days as a provider, I may be lucky enough to make it back to the break room and grab a plate of food from our drug representatives. We are always appreciative, and I love to briefly hear any NEW information or updates on the product and coverage for our patients. Usually, we still have patients waiting to be seen, and several deliveries that are about to happen taking more providers out of the office. I personally have my reps/MSL's that can "read the room" and know that I have about 5" or less and respect that. Most are repeat visits and they have already established a relationship and know I'm an active prescriber so do a great job of a "quick" update. These are the ones we don't AVOID : ). I have several that I look forward to seeing and I know that they will respect time constraints if it is a particularly hectic day. Recently, there was a new medication and representative/MSL ?? that was in the break room. When I ran in there to get water and didn't even have time for lunch the one thing that stood out to me and gained my respect. He said, "I already heard you are having a VERY busy day in clinic and probably don't have time to chat. Could I send you a video email and then follow up with you later? That was amazing. I wanted to know about his product and new information, but DID NOT have time today to stop and listen. However, he picked up on this and offered a great alternative. I am looking forward to seeing him now that I have listened to the information he sent me. I am not sure if he is an MSL or just a great drug rep, but this is So important and I thought I would share from the other side.

    Thank you for this honest assessment of the job role. I was a L&D nurse for 15 (+) years, and now have been working as a women's health nurse practitioner in a large private practice. I absolutely have loved my practice and enjoyed years of direct patient care. I am "almost" an "empty nester" and looking at options for the future. I am embarrassed to admit, even as a provider I did not know this role existed. One of my patients recently was an MSL and I had to ask her to explain this job role to me. There are always downsides and challenges to every career. Also, these things are so important to know before accepting a position to make sure it is a fit for you. I appreciate your willingness to speak frankly about these things

    Very insightful! Thank you Cherie and Tom! I am curious if special projects through MSL or Medical Director connections are indeed a possibility for aspiring MSL or for external junior MSL looking to broaden or sharpen their skills, and at the same time add value to the company, the contact, and to their own portfolio?

  • @alexandradeleon
    @alexandradeleon 2 місяці тому

    It seems the personal "connection" (in MSL/Medical Director interaction) is an opening for creativity ? And that is why it valuable for both parties?

    In light of what is revealed, I think may be interesting to have a training platform for academic faculty into Industry Medical Director roles. Any academic faculty with external funding would have a breadth of cross functional experience collaborating with IIS (sponsored programs), publications (editorial groups), Congress support, commercial (a multitude of vendors and vendor platforms), clinical (clinical collaborations and co-authors), regulatory (IBC and other internal and external review committees), compliance,HR (personnel hiring), education and mentoring, budget, and licensing teams.

      Great question. It depends on the role. It varies so the best way to figure that out is to see what the first 3 or 4 items are on the job description responsibilities and what the top 2-3 on the requirements. Typically, those are the must haves
