I read that it cost considerably more to dismantle the transporter than it did to build it.
ua-cam.com/video/wqCBtWls0bA/v-deo.html Is this real Robert Thompson or a completely different person?
1:25 ahh, scousers. What a wonderful breed. Would never imagine that crime could take place in such a paradise!
1:13 That gobshite knew exactly why you were recording, Thompson lived 2-3 streets up at 223 Walton Village.
How did Wirral borough council kill Birkenhead. Shame
I don't think this is the correct route. I believe they continued all the way down Stuart RD after leaving the park, and then went back up County Rd and turned right onto Hampden St.
Love how that yob shouted at you for filming but 38 people went by a tired , bruised and clearly distraught baby boy without removing him from that pair of psychos
I can remember using it in that year as a child with my father Ian a wagon,
Thanks for posting!
born in st caths birkenhead in '72 raised in rock ferry ...best days of my life in the late 70's
Hi, just discovered your channel. Having spent most of my life on the Wirral I can recall the Garden Festival in 84 (age 9). I went on a school trip from Gayton primary, then again with my late Grandmother. I'll take a look at your other stuff. Thanks for the fond recall. Whatever happened to that massive dome? I remember dancing to the birdie song in that dome with my Nan. Worzel Gummedge, the chinese garden.
A sad loss. Inevitable when the new bridge runs exactly alongside. Ours, crossing the Tees at Middlesbrough, survived because the newer crossings were a long way further upstream. We're still likely to lose it, though. It has been the subject of 'closure by stealth' ever since its centenary in 2011.
At which point within this video is the infamous CCTV still captured
That's a good question. Its difficult to say precisely but probably the point about 1 min 20 secs in (or 1 min 40 secs in, but I think it is the first). The image was taken near to the Mothercare store, wherever that was in 1993.
2.34 exactly.
At West Kirby station the camera caught an advertisement for “Ace Audio” in Liverpool… I worked at Ace Audio in the early 70’s; in my wild days.
I lived near Brombrough in the seventies. Us kids would call an asphalted public path between two houses to the next road " the cinderpath". I never knew or wondered why until now. But perhaps cinders were in good supply at some point during Wirral history. So they may have been used for rail footings and public paths alike. Will probably never know.
St johns tiwer was built in 1969 so shoildnt of geen in this video, lol
My mum grew up in walsey village.
Does anyone know the flat Denise lived in with Ralph and baby James
Does anyone understand how he walks upstairs and onto the top floor then walked out the doors onto the street? This doesn’t make sense
They took him that way. It was the quickest way out without getting caught probably
Because the butcher was on the bottom level and the top level is level with the street.
Harlow Railway station is now unfortunately completely ruined. More like eat at Joe's cafe with part of the station ticket office converted for eating you cannot walk properly along the platform with tables chairs people stuffing their guts, if that was not enough they added two Hotdog stands outside as well inside the Toilet has been converted to a unisex toilet The signal box had its windows smashed so many times they put in plastic glass Horrible place....... money money money 🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑💰💰......PS at Thurstaston you are now charged for parking your car to get fresh air ( station gone long ago )
I'd forgotten how 'tatty' the railways around Wirral had become by the early 70's. I was brought up in Port Sunlight and actually travelled to West Kirkby from Hooton and remember the old Mersey Railway Westinhouse stock!
Having just watched the video. My Dad could have been one of those erectors seen in the film 😢
My Dad Gordon Smith( R I. P ) was one of the steel erectors who after having helped build the Widnes/ Runcorn bridge moved over to the demolition team that brought the old transporter down.
Superb. Wish I could go back and revisit this.
They knew exactly what they were doing. Deranged freaks.
mad seeing roads i walk down every day look like this
four bridges Birkenhead docks
Terrible death walk.. ☠️.😭💔🥀🥀
Hearing the church bells ring was haunting..😞😓😓
That poor baby must have been terrified at the ordeal of this long walk..unaware of his violent end..💔😭🥀🥀
I never realized that they took James into the next shop & to the back up the stairs. That’s devious as hell. They definitely didn’t want his mom to spot them by staying on the main aisle.
I’m a bit confused as to if this was the exact route. Didn’t they leave the shopping complex under the shop heading of “MotherCare”? And in video 3 or 4, where is the factory/business that caught the 3 on grainy CCTV walking along that curved small wall?
@@brittney5903this is the exact route. The cctv beside the wall is about half a mile away from the strand
This truly is the worst crime ever seen, and cannot ever be understood, whoever that person is, it cannot be understood, it was too horrific.
1:05 is eerie hearing a young baby crying, then a mother calling out for son “Louie” saying something along the lines of “stay with me, don’t get lost”. Just goes to show how quick it can happen
Yeah I noticed that one...weird.
What a lovely comparison between the two eras. As a Railwayman of 33 years I worked on that part of the system for a while and looking at some of the footage from the 1970s, the layout has hardly changed today. The Wirral way is a nice place to go for a walk on a sunny day and the chippy at Parkgate does some of the best Fish and Chips around.
The audio is from 1913. The film is from 1973/74.
I don't think the audio can be from 1913 as Wirral trains weren't electrified until 1938
@@KaptainKastle Read what I wrote again.
@@TOYBOX2008 yes, but did you read what I wrote ?
@@TOYBOX2008 in the audio the guy refers to Electrification of the railways and this didn't happen until 1938. Therefore the audio cannot have been from 1913. Is that easier for you to understand?
@@KaptainKastle It is, thank you. You are correct, my apologies. It is has been labelled in a uniquely confusing way.
Is 1:59 the step and the bench the old lady with the dog saw them at?
Correct.
What is the butchers nowadays?
From the look of it nowadays nobody can access the railway/crime scene anymore?
Looks remarkably modern for 1913
I'd guess that the narrative is from a historical source, mixed with what were (when the vid was made) contemporary images.
It literally explains all this in the opening text.
The fact they took secluded routes shows they had intent to conceal and motive to want to kill him.
This is really heartbreaking. Studying this for current Postgrad dissertation. Does anyone who lived in Walton/Norris Green area remember anything about the Venables/Thompson family? I know it was 30 years ago but someone must remember them and have some light to shed about how and why a crime like this could have taken place.
I watched all the 5 videos and I have to admit that I almost cried, thinking of poor little James being beaten up and dragged during this horrific journey. It also made up my mind not to watch the film Detainment, based on the events (I watched the trailer and three extracts, and made me sick). At that time, media were questionning who, between Thompson and Venables, was the leader during this barbarity. Both were evil : Venables attracted poor James, and Thompson had the idea of killing him (they imagine pushing a child into the water or under a car !). Justice were at that time too lenient, giving them 8-year imprisonment. 15 or 20 years would have been much justified. I hope Venables will stay forever in jail, and Thompson to live with this tragedy in his mind until his death.
1913?
Our lovely Wirral.
I could live and die there happily. I simply adore it. Sadly I live in Somerset.
1973 not 1913
almost all the video was from the 60s . woodside station was closed in the 60s .
Remember the Zulu ?
the fella who done the commentary wasn't Richard was it . lol
0.37 sec
Sounds like Monty
I love this
which bit is your favourite?
Take my dog to Hadlow every morning..looks better today
It has been put on the map and is awful.....very commercial now part of the station servers coffee to the masses also the Toilet is now unisex.....in short it is Bloody Terrible...( HADLOW STATION ) The English Tend to say nothing in 2022 just smile with apathy and carry on watching soaps. There again I am not wholly English
It was a crime it was demolished....
Oh yer it would have kept up with the traffic deffo
