Far Song is Kayleen Sánchez, soprano, and Paul Sánchez, piano. The husband- and-wife duo champions contemporary music, with CD releases on the Albany and Soundset labels. Praised for her “keen technical virtuosity... her voice [that] thrills along the spine” (Sherod Santos, 2016), Kayleen is a specialist in early and new music. She is on faculty at the College of Charleston, and studied with Rita Shane and Carol Webber. Lauded as “a great artist” (José Feghali, 2013; Cecilia Rodrigo, 2019), Paul Sánchez is a composer and pianist. He is Director of Piano Studies at the College of Charleston, and studied with Tamás Ungar, Douglas Humpherys, Maria Teresa Monteys, and Alicia de Larrocha. Kayleen, thank you for not allowing the difficult technique of the song to get in the way of the delicate lullaby that is the text. Paul, thank you for your beautifully tender voicing and for doing so much more than “just accompanying”-taking time to interpret your portion of the song as equal to the vocal part. I’ve played your recording for my kids several times over the last year while we sit together in a chair and look at the book, because this is the kind of musicianship I want to expose them to. They always sit in enraptured silence towards the end-even my 2 year old.
