Law, Politics and the New Prabowo Administration
Indonesia’s controversial new president, former general Prabowo Subianto, comes to power with strong popular mandate after a landslide victory, and has already built a huge governing coalition. But he has a dark past, with allegations of human rights violations, and he has repeatedly made his distaste for liberal democracy very clear. Some observers praise his unabashed nationalism and developmentalist agenda, but others fear he may return Indonesia to an authoritarian model like that built by his one-time father-in-law, Soeharto. In this online conference, prominent scholars and activists offered their analysis of what the next five years of Prabowo’s rule will be like.
Presenters included:
- Dr Usman Hamid, Amnesty International Indonesia
- Professor Susi Dwi Harijanti, Universitas Padjadjaran, Indonesia

Bahasa Inggris Prof.Jimly sangat terbatas, tidak ada aksen dan sangat seperti membaca buku. Bahasa Inggris yang baik adalah jika diucapkan secara spontan, konsisten dan terstruktur.

Prof Mulya desribes facts, progress and problem of implement democracy, rule of law in indonesia as "negara hukum" very details. if may i quote what prof mulya said above, "... the constitution are intepreted depend on by person" such as, soekarno, soeharta"... ". this is the core of indonesia problems. CAN A PERSON WHO BEEN SAID ABOVE FREE OF POLITICAL INTERVENTION ?, as far as i know, mostly you can check "that person" before becoming president have a sweet define about understanding "the term of president" and after elected, please why dont you ask "the person" what is the term of president to them. i suggested that you guys have to refresh the terminology of "president" before and after elected based on constitution. i assume "democracy in electoral system in indonesia are become electing "elite of democracy". are this we call "a democracy". please if you have time ask "the person". have a nice day.

indonesian have this chronic disease of short term memory print... but more than that is, people don't really care... if you still worrying about what to eat next month then, all other shit can wait... and that includes past human right abuses... the sound of several hundred thousands who feel bad about the abuses doesn't really matter for the rest dozens of millions...
