How hard was it to install the power commander? I"ve got a 2015 xt250, but I've heard that the power commanders are for the European tune/version of the XT250. Not sure if that is true so I've been hesitant to buy one. What kind of improvements did you notice or feel?
Can I get a link for your handlebars please? I've looked for the Protaper KTM/Husky stock bend that you commented they were but can't find them. I found KTM/Suzuki stock bend protapers. Thanks.
Hi Mr. Blue. Love Bill!! I’ve been shopping for an XT. Looking at your bike, it’s good to see that you can fit a decent Knobby under the little front fender. That was one of my biggest concerns. Is it an odd size or are they pretty standard? I love those fold away mirrors.
Hey I’ve been looking for a power commander for my XT 250 year 2020 which one do you have because they say they don’t make one for that bike if you ask him if he can get back to me at appreciate it
I went a slightly different route.. Lowering link ( one inch ) oversize foot pegs, 14T counter shaft sprocket, skid plate, bar risers ( 1.5 inches ) drilled and tapped the fork caps to accept Schroeder valves to make air forks and took off around 5 lbs of unnecessary weight. Rear spring just fine for a 175 pounder. Biggest bang for the buck was definitely the 14T sprocket.. and they make a 13T as well.
I saw some one in the comments talking about a big bore kit for a raptor. I'm curious if I can do that to a 2017 xt250 and what kind of power I'd be getting out of the extra CCs. What kind of gearing ratio would I be looking at with a big bore? Thanks for any input. Cheers!
How’s your back fender with the exhaust I hear it melt it, and also if I get a sling for the back do I have to get one for the front or can I just do the back
14T sprocket will make a huge difference in perceived power/torque. And you won't lose any top end especially on level or slightly uphill where you will probably see an increase in top speed.
I'm hoping the 14T sprocket will work out, mine didn't arrive yet. The wide ratio box isn't made for hill climbing, seems in between gears right when you need it.
Looks great! I was surprised how little there was online about an XT250 fender eliminator... Here's what I came up with: thumpertalk.com/forums/topic/1318987-2019-yamaha-xt250-fender-eliminator-mod/
@@xiolablue5024 can you not take out the sight screw and avoid taking the head off the engine to obtain TDC. Did you lock it out once at TDC with the screw and removing the washer?
Yeah..I just don't get why people pull the cams out and tie up the chain. I've done that before when doing rebuilds of course but for a simple re-shim this is the technique to follow for dual cam heads. Saves so much time and headache.
No "eliminator" needed. Just ripped off all the stock stuff and bolted the integrated tail light where you see it. Then popped the plate on the fender.
There is a TON of info out there. This bike has an huge cult following and many user groups, mods, overland adventure blogs, JDM parts, etc. If you can't find Info on the XT250, you aren't looking.
No, but I did add a fuel tuner to richen her up. She's way to lean stock as it is. Lean = hot. Don't make any airflow increases on this bike without adding more fuel. You'll do more harm than good.
Backfire is caused by a lean condition. It sounds like your Power Commander is not adjusting the fuel. Or you have air getting into the exhaust at the header somewhere. I ran +7 across the board but she never back fired even at lower settings. Double check the PC install. I saw someone splice into the wrong wire once. PC support helped me find the right wire during my initial install. Their service was great.
I ordered the tail light but the mount doesn't exactly line up with the holes on the stock rear fender. Did you 3M tape it to the fender or something? I had to do this with my current setup and it doesn't exactly look too great. Really wish there was a better aftermarket variety for the XT250...
The integrated 12oclock labs rear brake/signal is awesome. Ultra bright and programmable sequences. I got the protaper "stock KTM/Husky" bend. Everything fit well. I heard of many issues running out of room on the bars with other bends.
Yes, my bad... xt250 or TW200.. I could probably utilize both very well, but need to pick 1. Also getting a ttr110 for my son, but I'm pretty sure I'll be going with the TW 200, trails around here aren't friendly.
Oh, I though the fender looked crispy at the back. I agree with regards to the north American taillight and signals. Bloody ugly. The original Japanese spec ones are so sleek in comparison. I just ordered the factory skid plate and rack for mine.
Check out the links in the description. If you keep separate turn signals then the cheap eBay one is fine. It can be wired for just a brake light or with integrated signals. I feel that the LEDs are too dim for the orange Signal. I ended up getting the 12oClock labs signal with the integrated signal upgrade board. I used the mount that came with the cheap eBay one. It's Amazing!...but $$$.
Hey..saw your comment on TT as well. Been busy L8LY. Yeah.. they messed up on the suspension. My daughter is 115# and it was even too soft for her. It's really easy as long as you are comfortable with tools. The front forks are simple. For the rear you'll need to remove the rear tire and the plastics from there it's just a couple bolts. I put the shock in the vice and hit the notched collar with a screwdriver and a hammer to loosen it. Easy peasy! What year do you have?
Thanks for both your replies! I've got a 2015 (best color!) I might have to order the springs you linked if it really is that easy. And I thought the front would have been more difficult.... So what big bore can you do? Is it the same kit for the Raptor 250?
Yessir.. cheaper to buy Raptor kit. Might do it for fun.. I've put Soo much $$$ into the XT.. but in reality I'd like it to weigh 60# less and have 20 more HP. THEN she'd be perfect! I imagine I'll be in a (way lowered) KTM 350 EXC-F within a couple years.
Awesome...Im sure that'll be fun to get working correctly with the fuel injection. I've got to pick up that Power Commander next I think. I'm with you on the KTM route, its just the commute-ablity of it that I'd be concerned with. I know maintenance is much higher and reliability might not be the same. But I suppose a bored out XT would be in a similar boat. Also, those tails don't really support rear racks and luggage which is a bummer too. Have you thought about a lithium battery for more weight loss? I hear they don't work too good starting in cold weather though. I've so far put on Pro Taper SE bars, barkbusters VPS guards, K&N filter, rear rack, LED headlight bulb, RAM phone mount, and had a custom Renazco racing seat made for me.
