Drummers of Melody, Rhythm & Creativity - Introduction
This is tutorial perfection 👌
Nel book in pdf non ci sono queste trascrizioni...
for some reason im having a hard time telling what you are doing in first pattern. Tho the view is great, it too can make it hard to discern a movement. Both hand are hitting quarter notes? And you say the right hits the “ride” pattern. I can’t tell if two hits or one is happening for that… are you ddoing the “uh-one… uh-three” triplet, double stroke? amazing content, thank you!
also.. you show the pattern on page 44.. it has left doing whatever (quarters, eights, etc) and the right alternating with “and”, or “ee”, etc. It looks like you are not alternating hands in the following demo. Instead using right to reinforce, or accent the left. Just want to understand this stuff in detail… I am finally tackling this technique “for real” 😂💪 Have a good day🙏🏻
I usually play the skip note with my right brush at the 2 o'clock position on the and of 3. You can mix it up any way you'd like. Playing the skip note with the left brush etc. Hope that helps. Thanks for the kind words.
6yars later and i still use your videos to practice...amazing stuff!
I love this
This is crazy
Grazie
45 años tocando la batería y este tipo pintando ritmo con gran estilo y delicadeza. Enhorabuena maestro pincel.
Hey Joe, I'm a bit confused on the last one. How is the 3 against 2 being applied for the switch? And is the 3 against 2 L R L R L R L? Or both hands simultaneously?
Yeah, simultaneously seems to be what I was trying to communicate. Fortunately we have a video visual in the case that my narration was confusing. Thanks for the question.
@@drummersmrc where could I find the video?
@@manuelrodero8764 i think he meant that it is showed visually in this very video :)
good job on capturing the lynchian atmosphere
This is hypnotic
Are these jazz only cymbals? They sound great.
I know that some Rock players are using them also.
They’re perfect 👍
Part 2?
Thanks for your interest. Waiting to take delivery of my new Craviotto kit to include it in Part 2. Sorry it's taking so long, but the video will be worth the wait. I have some footage of the 16" Craviotto bass drum that recently repaired and built a new kit around. A photo of that kit can be see at joederenzo.com by scrolling down the home page. Thanks again!
good
excellent work- tony would have been proud!!
Hi Joe. What model of brushes do you use in the (beautiful) videos. Many thanks Paolo
Thanks! Vic Firth "Steve Gadd" model with the wires straightened out and the ones with the purple handles "HB" both of which are rubberized handles. That way I don't get the annoying click against the drum hoop with hard plastic handle brushes. Hope this helps.
@@drummersmrc Many Thanks Joe. Have a nice day.
This is golden!
niceee
I'm going to check these out. They sound great!
great! thanks but i'm a little confused. it sounds like like you are playing all even notes but i see triplets and sixteenth notes notated. do you have this notated with time signature, etc? thanks!
I don't. I think I mention that the notes are given equal value. Since it was an exercise that I've memorized, I didn't see the need for a time signature. It's fun to play nonetheless. In Steve's video, he utilizes the pattern to sound like Vinnie.
Jazz brushes do I need? What are these ones called?
I use the Vicfirth HB heritage brushes (purple) since the handles are rubber and I don't get an annoying click sound from brushes with hard plastic handles. The ones in the video are Steve Gadd which also have rubber handles, but I straighten out the wire ends. I'm also a big proponent of Remo Fiberskyn heads. I'll be posting jazz brushes videos from the upcoming Chicago Drum Show. I hope this helps. Ciao!
j'aime et c'est quoi ta peau remo sablé ?
Dans la vidéo Remo Skyntone, mais maintenant j'utilise Remo Fiberskyn avec des pinceaux de Steve Gadd par Vicfirth. 🥁
Where can I buy this book?
@@bromasi joederenzo.com/book
Very good work, thank you ! Tony keeps always his snare off when playing with brushes :)
'PromoSM' 😍
well laid out.
25 years of playing drums and never thought about what playing brushes actualy is about. Now I finaly want to get into it and this whole concept just blows my mind! Great video!
What a great informative video!
This is great content, thanks man! I watched the three parts and hit follow 🤗🧚♂️
Excellent job!
brushes are some of the hardest forms of percussion. i can play things like yyz or spain by corea but cant play a single bit of a ballad with brushes. Just never learned it and even tho im into that music still to this day i have never owned a pair of standard brushes. Played in band (sax) but always took over the kit when we were just fucking around and had access to that stuf but never really played it. Its the most foreign thing ive ever played in drumming.
I’ve learned so much from your video , thank you it was excellent.
I have a record contract with a label in Stockholm. They have a giant music studio. But i'm too shy to ask if they have Jazz Brushes, because I wanna try it so badly. Next time i'm vist i'm gonna ask them if they have :D
still love his drumming!!
excellent demo of these great brush techniques. I will practice them as of tomorrow Thanks
If the book is bought is there also access to any audio loops of the patterns? I could just record these into ableton to get the feel but would be good to have them at the ready for practicing
The other brushes videos are the best source. The PDF book has some patterns, but is mainly stick transcriptions. Thanks for the kind words.
God damn these videos are so elegant.
👍👌🙏
By the way Rick Considine's lecture is not available on UA-cam anymore...
Many thanks, especially for the ballade pattern! Which drumhead do you use on this video? Fiberskyn? Does it suit playing with sticks as well? I'm playing in a bigband and looking for some drumhead which would sound pretty loud while playing with brushes. Could you please suggest smth.?
hi thanks for these lessons! Is that an I5 microphone on the snare?
This looks like the perfect instrument to play when you don't want to annoy your neighbors too much.
Wowwwwwwwwwww, apenas me topé con éste increíble trabajo!!!! Gracias Saludos desde México

Get it grandpa!!❤️
Nice video.
The first time I listened to jazz I thought that the noise produced by brushes came from old recording technology
Does anyone know how I can get a copy of Joe's book? I've tried emailing as he suggests but no reply.... Would love to get hold of a copy..... Thank you in anticipation 👍🤔
Sorry for the tardy reply. The book is available as a digital download at joederenzo.com/book
Ah thanks for this..... Didn't see that 👍😊
Great video on brushes. Sounds and looks easy when you play it!
