We are new retirees, Dale and Kendra, joining our daughter and family in Virginia. We are moving from Pennsylvania to Virginia to join them on the recently purchased 15-acre farm.
Journey with us on the former dairy farm with NO house, NO water well, NO sewer, NO driveway, and No address!
We will create processes to grow our own food, and raise our meat. The dairy barn will be converted into home/s that includes in-law quarters. Kendra, a fiber artist, will take you from live sheep through finished garments.
Dale, the shepherd, will care for the sheep, chickens, steers, and road-side stand. His jolly manner will charm the customers (and talk their legs off).

Finnsheep Lamb Rugs & Throws, How To, Part 1

Dale shows how to skin a lamb and how to flesh the lamb skin in this video. There are several ways to get a lambskin to tan for rugs and throws. If you have lambs, then you have a source to get a skin, either after butchering the lamb or after one dies. This was Dale's first skinning of a lamb which took about an hour. It took Dale another 30 minutes to flesh about half and another 10 minutes t...

So what natural dewormers are there... going to look this up, my curiosity is sparked😊
I had the right hunch, just didn't know if sheep eat garlic, turns out they do.
@@kleineroteHex I have used garlic for others kinds of worms, but never for barber pole. Thanks!! I also will use food grade diatomaceous earth (DE), don't know if it works for barber pole.
I know it’s an old video but people still need help and go to comments. Clean your fuel tank. If there’s gunk, that petcock will restrict fuel flow enough to let it start and idle but not run under load when fuel starts burning off faster.
Thanks, I appreciate you response! Blessings Dale D.
Very interesting.
@@kleineroteHex this is Kendra. I agree. Very interesting.
Thanks for sharing...
Thank You Amy! Blessings, Dale D.
Quite a bit of change since May.
I'm ready to be done with the changes and have time next year to do more gardening! Thanks for watching! Blessings
I just saw this. I am so sorry for your loss. Love you and Kendra ❤
Thank You Carol! Blessings Dale D.
Wow, some nice pieces in there.
They always have really great quilts most made by Amish and Mennonite quilters.
Starting at the beginning ;-)
Thanks Keith! My good friend, don't get too bored! Blessings!
Hi. Can get milk from finnsheep and how much?
Hi, thanks for watching. I have never milked one. But they are used as a dairy sheep. I have one that is always in milk and I've been tempted to milk it to see how much milk it could produce, but I didn't want to have to dry it up and possible deal with milk fever. Blessings, Dale
Sorry for your loss Dale.
Hi Dave! Thanks! How are you doing?
Life is going ok for us, Linda still works 3 days a week at Fairmount and I help out at garden spot auto auction one or two days a week. I hope you and your family are doing well. Take care for now Dale.
@@daveredcay7066 Thanks Dave! We are really enjoying living next door to our grandkids. Blessings to you Dave!
You got a new hat😮 Sure is a bit of work to get to the finished product!
I wanted to wear a different hat when Keith and I went to the dump, and ended up wear it most of the day!
Always sad, but it at least is put to use.
Thanks for watching! We finally got a little rain last night, but we need a lot more! Blessings Dale D.
@@3generations991 we got enough to not have to water for a day, the small rain barrels are full though.
@@kleineroteHex The rain we got 2 nights ago was very helpful. It filled most of our water storage totes. I haven't used well water for animals for 3 days. And I have enough for 2 or 3 more days. The weather guys says there is more chances of rain this weekend. Bring it on!
What a story!
This is so cool, Dad! I love this! I want more videos about these rugs and throws!
Aw, thank you Kari! I hope to make some videos about it. I have off 4 days next week and hopefully will have time to work on this project. love You!
You rock!
I hope I can perfect this art soon! Thank You!
@@3generations991 I am certain you will!
@@kleineroteHex Thank You!
Awesome! Lol, your rooster is determined to be a star on your channel. These pelts are going to be gorgeous!
Aw, thank you Carmen! Thanks so much for getting my interest in the lamb rugs and throws peaked! You guys are awesome! Blessings, Dale D.
I'm just seeing this now and I can't tell you thank you for explaining raw fleece as well as you have. I've learned more from you than all the books I've been reading. You take your time showing & explaining in your real world setting. A friend spun some Finn wool for me but now I'd love to get some cleaned Finn fleece, card it & spin my own. Super informational video on a lovely, lovely breed of sheep. Give us more. :)
Wow. That's an amazing compliment! Thank YOU!
Thanks for watching our videos! I will try to produce more videos about working with raw wool to yarn. I'm just starting to process lamb skins, producing lamb skin rugs and throws. Hopefully I can start to produce videos on how I am tanning these skins. I absolutely love having the FinnSheep! Blessings Dale D.
I still like the piglets😊
They are so cute!
Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Amy, for watching! Blessings! Dale D.
Hi Amy, long time no see, about 50 years, maybe? It seems hard to believe that we graduated 50 years ago!! After I commented I realized it was you, once I looked at your photo.
Love this one!❤
Time to finish watching 😊
They sure look different after the wool cutting! Thanks for watching!
Too bad we missed that, we will get there mother's day.
Is it already that time of the year for your visit? WOW, time flies. Will you be able to do a visit? Blessings!
@3generations991 time flies when you have lambs 😉 If you super busy people have a free afternoon, would love to stop in. We are there from Saturday, mother's day weekend until next Saturday morning.
@@kleineroteHex Friday afternoon would work for Kendra. I won't know my work schedule, but you could come mid to late afternoon and stay for soup with us.
@@3generations991 then let's just plan for Friday - what was the book I wanted to share with Kendra??? may be her memory still works?
@@kleineroteHex Kendra here. I wonder if it has to do with edible "weeds"?
I want a little lamb, but it needs to stay little😂
They grow up so fast! I have 2 ewes that lambed, one on Easter and one on April fools, and I din't have time to make a video on them, but they are so small compared to those born the beginning of the year.
How cute is that!!!!!
Ram Lamb 60 is a buddy of mine!
Oh Dale and Kendra so sorry for your loss. Ram Lamb was such a beautiful lamb
Thanks Edna! I've been able to move on. I'm enjoying the other 26 lambs! Cherokee should have her liter of 3 to 5 lambs soon. I'm looking forward to them!
So sorry for your loss. What a sweet boy Oden is to come hang out with you as you grieve. Sending love your way!
Thanks Carmen! That Odin is one incredible dog...Most of the time!
Life is tough😢
Yes it can be. I had so much fun with Ram Lamb 1. He'd follow me around as I did my sheep chores. He'd follow me into the chicken shed when I feed the chickens, then he'd eat the chicken feed until I'd come back later and remove him from the chicken shed. Thanks for following the Ram lamb 1 story! Blessings
@@3generations991 just read this morning Luke 6, Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh (21b).
Glad you take good care of him!
Thank you! This morning he followed me around the barn and in the pasture. Last night about 12:30 AM I did get a little video of him actually getting some milk from Shannon. I'm really pleased about that. Shannon is a good MaMa!
You might just run out of names at that rate.
I'm probably only naming the ones I keep. We have 23 lambs now with another 5-7 still due. I'm looking forward to being done with lambing season as I'm wearing out. Getting up several times a night to check on them is tiring.
they are sooooo cute!!!!
Yes, they are soooo cute! I have 12 lambs and their mom's now out in the pasture. I love watching them frolickling in the field with each other. Hopefully, some more videos of them soon. I'm having trouble right now downloading the footage for 2 more videos!?! Grrrrrrr
@3generations991 by May they will be mostly grown ☹️
They grow up too fast, just like our kids, at least in our minds now that they are in their 30's!
Are you ready for “C” names? Carlos, Chet or Chester, Charles or Chuck, or Cooper. For the girls there is Charlotte, Cindy, Carla, Cathy or Catherine, Carlotta, or Cherry.

Classic coil failing. When it get hot due to higher resistance, it fails. Once it cools down, it provides a good spark again. Heats up, fails. Cools down, good again for 10 to 15min. Replace the coil.
thanks for watching and for your input! I appreciate it! Dale D.
Mushroom soil is the bomb! My one daughter had a small garden with her house and she just dumped mushroom soil on the old beds (not knowing what the previous owner had done). Stuff grew amazingly!!! oh, duh, it's wool! I thought you had snow already 🤣
There is a rumor that this could be a snow year here in the valley. I hope they are wrong!! as always thanks for watching and for commenting! Blessings, Dale D.
I figured fall brings enough to do, and you take on a whole new jod, wow!

Wonderful video! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching! Blessings, Dale D.
I've lost so much respect for the amish, I'm from Iowa, after seeing how badly they treat their horses. I know to them there's just a farm implement but to run a hose in the ground, starve them and not provide any vet care is unforgiving..
Thanks for watching! Blessings, Dale D.
Thanks for sharing the video Dale Mikayla and I loved it
Thanks so much for watching! We are so blessed to know you guys! Blessings Dale D.
You would get more respect if you looked after your horses and did right by them when they can no longer work! Sending these beautiful creatures to auction is not humane or god like is it ?
Hi Jane, just to clarify. I own no horses nor have I ever owned any horses. This was a story about Amish who were riding past the farm and I let them stay overnight with their horses. Anyone who abuses their animals isn't god like or treating them humanely. Thanks for watching, Blessings, Dale D.
I have read so many books on life of Amish and I would love to have a chance to meet and mingle someday
I hope you get a chance to mingle with Amish someday. Thanks for Watching! Blessings, Dale D.
