Im not a pro by any means- I don’t even have a real camera. I just like making silly videos with my friends.
Back Home- Study Abroad in Review
I'm finally back home in the United States. My time abroad taught me so much and helped me to grow more than I could have hoped for.
I am so thankful for everyone who was a part of this chapter of my life and all those who made it possible.

My Feelings Before Leaving the Country
literally a memory I will never forget! thanks for everything!!
<3 YOU ARE WORTH BEING NOTICED GIRL! keep that feeling forever!
Katie Daniel 🧡🧡🧡 love you
I didn’t comment much, but it was nice following your travels, thanks for sharing and good luck in the US. What other countries would you have liked to study in? What other countries do you want to visit? Hopefully you’ll continue travelling.
Luna Luna thanks for watching!! :) I hope to visit Russia soon! That would be next on the top of my list. But I’ll be happy to go anywhere I can. I see lots of travel happening in my future, whenever I have the chance :)
Germany is so beautiful. I love the classical German architecture.
Ahh Dorset, Somerset, Sussex are the places to go to see the English countryside! But seemed like you both had fun 😊
And also Gloucestershire (pronounced as glos-ter-sha)
Aww it went by so quick you didn’t spend enough time here, i hope you come back and get to explore England, Wales, Scotland even more.
One thing I want to ask is did you find England’s education system hard? I’ve heard it’s more essay-based and demanding than the US education system.
BlueSkies11 in certain ways it was harder, and in other ways it was easier. There are a lot less grades, st least from my experience, in the grade book in the uk. Meaning that your essays and finals are pretty much your entire grade- which means you have to work a bit harder. But they also seem to give you more time to work and study, as the classes meet less frequently and have longer breaks. You are definitely expected to work more on your own, but I think the time commitment is less.
Nicole Miller - I assume the extra time to work and study helped you adjust to the more demanding curriculum/education system in general. Which one do you prefer? I think the US has a more rounded system, you’re expected to do presentations, get marked on class participation, projects, and extra curricular activities, whilst all those things happen in England you’re not graded for it.
I know you were based mostly in the Midlands and the north of England, but did you experience the difference in personality and friendliness in the north and south of England? And the difference between England, Scotland, and Wales?
Sunflower While I did travel to all those places, I’m not sure I spent enough time there to really grasp the differences in personalities! My trips to southern England were always very quick day trips, and I was only I Wales for a weekend. Scotland however I did spent an entire week in, but it’s still hard to say exactly what the difference was.
Nicole Miller - True, that’s a good point. It’s fantastic that you explored all of those areas in Britain. You’ve visited more places in Britain in your six months here than some foreign students do in their year to three years here.
Sunflower haha well I wanted to be sure to get in as much as possible. Hopefully it won’t be too long before I’m back and can visit more!
You can’t really ask whether Europeans are as friendly as southern US Americans bc it’s too much of a generalisation, each European country is different and within each country there’re regional variation. As you’ve experienced yourself, the people and friendliness in France, England, and Germany are completely different. I’d say the European countries that match southern US hospitality are Ireland and Scotland bc the Irish and Scottish smile, wave, greet, and make conversation with strangers just like Americans do - this is rare elsewhere in Europe.
Probably Wales and Northern England too, but perhaps they’re not as open and approachable as the Irish and Scottish.
Marley Barley very true haha! I can really only speak to my experience in the midlands of England.
Did you experience culture shock when you returned back to the US?
Marley Barley so far, not too bad!! I think the biggest thing was when I landed in Atlanta and went to get food, people weren’t as polite and it took me a minute to be like “oh yeah- people are a lot less patient here.” And it’s been a bit strange being in grocery stores and not seeing things like digestives or dairy milks haha!
Nicole Miller - ahh yeah I’d miss our biscuits and chocolates, but on the plus side at least you have all your peanut butters! You now have English/European habits, like hanging clothes on a clothing rack instead of tumble drying it, walking instead of driving, and were you always quiet, will you keep up with those habits in the US?
Marley Barley some of them I’ll keep for sure!! I’ve always hung some of my clothes to dry, depending on fabric. And I’m hoping to walk more now that I’ve gotten used to it!
If your study abroad programme has taught you self-confidence and acceptance, then it has been completely worthwhile. All other experiences have been just a bonus. You have changed so much from the shy, nervous, quiet introvert that arrived here, as I knew you would. Travel teaches you something of the wider world, which is great but much, much more about yourself, which is invaluable. You have learned that you are completely capable of organising and arranging things by yourself, of budgeting, cooking, finding your way around, doing your own laundry etc., in fact, so many different and vital life skills. You have become a very different person and will find the next stages of your life so much easier because of it. Thank you again for all the super videos of your travels and experiences, they have been a pleasure to watch. Very best wishes for the future...……………………….....................….the old man by the sea.
hano verian again, thank YOU for all of your kind words and support through this journey. It has meant so much and has been such a treat to read all your comments. I wish you the best, as well 🧡
It's such a shame you have to go, we will miss your lovely grey eyes! I hope you manage to pack all the "little treasures" that you've collected over the months. Best wishes for the trip and for the future. Remember, there's nowhere to go but up!...……………………....the old man by the sea.
hano verian I’ve so enjoyed all of you comments! Reading them on all my videos has been an incredible treat, and you have been one of the many encouraging voices on this journey! I hope that you will stay tuned as I make more silly videos. While this is the end of my journey here, there will be many more adventures to come 🧡
Lovely vlog, especially the section from the Botanical Gardens. A+ for the camerawork which showed it off brilliantly. Use the rest of your time wisely, it may be a while before you get back again (but hopefully not too long).
Thank you!! The gardens were so fun! and yes- hopefully it won't be too long before I'm back. But for now I'm enjoying time with friends and checking a few final things off my bucket list <3
There's a very good reason that Ryanair are so cheap...………………..they are rubbish! The prices make them attractive to the 70% of people who don't experience any problems. Still, I hope your encounter with Europe's nastiest airline hasn't put you off completely. Germany looked lovely and I can remember visiting Cochem many years ago (but I didn't make it up to the castle, I opted for a cold beer instead). I suppose you'll be packing soon. I just hope that you can find space for all the little bits and bobs that you've amassed while over here. Good luck!
I should ave known better than to use them haha! but- I suppose thats part of the experience of travel tough! Still had a great time! And you're right- I'm so close to going home! I still have a few fun things planned though. And hopefully some fun stuff when I get home, too!!! The journey doesn't end here. :)
hano verian - EasyJet is so much better than RyanAir and it’s just as cheap.
What a treat to watch the latest bit of globe-trotting by my favourite visiting vlogger! I just hope that your time among the dour and serious Germans is half as enjoyable. They're not that bad really, it's just that sometimes they need a few of us wild, wacky and unreserved English folk to liven them up a bit. Have fun...……………………………...the old man by the sea.
hano verian aww!! You are too kind! Thank you so much! And Germany has been so lovely!! I’m excited to put the video together!
Loving the video clip and you have done a mind-blowing job on the edit! If you have time let me know what you think of my latest video just need some feedback! 😃
I am a old Scottish guy and would have gladly bought you and your b/f a drink....AND told the clown who said dont film to go to FCK ..but not as polite... lol
Calgacus Haha!!! He’s not my bf, but we both would have appreciated the drink, anyways 😂
What a shame that the weather was a bit gungy for your friends visit. Still, it didn't seem to slow her down too much. I was just reviewing one of your early postings from when you had just arrived, very scared, uncertain and intimidated by almost everything. Look at you now, zapping around the country by train without a care in the world. Studying abroad really does change you dramatically in all kinds of ways...…………….the old man by the sea.
true, the weather was a bit gloomy, but it wouldn't be a true England experience without it haha! we had a wonderful time! And you are so right- Every day I think about how much I've changed and grown, and feel so grateful for it :)
Nicole - I really like your posts - found you via you're Scotland videos.... For some reason the Sound on your posts is really hard to hear. Not sure what to do but that would help..... I'm old but not that old.... :)
Douglas Buchanan thank you!!! Haha some of the sound in my older videos like this one is really poorly mixed because I didn’t have a microphone and didn’t know how to balance the sound. Hopefully in some of my newer ones from Europe are easier to hear :)
You should cook more! It saves money, you know exactly what’s inside your meals, and it’s a good skill to have.
Marley Barley I’ve been enjoying it so much!!!
You're quite right, it's really important that you get out and about, even when the weather is grim (which is most of the time). Just think how much you're going to enjoy the warm summer sunshine when it arrives. Talking to yourself in your room is one thing but, when you start to answer yourself, it is definitely time for a long walk anywhere. Cheer up, the sun does shine in England, it's just that no-one knows when it will be...……………........…...the old man by the sea.
yep! many long walks have been happening over this week haha! but i've been keeping my head up for sure :)
You were not joking about the weather, were you? Well, at least you saw the Three Sisters at the entrance to Glencoe, sometimes the cloud and mist comes right down to the road. They have a local joke (they really need humour to live there), "if you can see the mountains, it's going to rain and if you can't, it's already raining". Glad you enjoyed it, rainwater is so good for the complexion...……...the old man by the sea.
Haha yeah the rain was brutal, but I feel like it added to the experience for sure.
Many congratulations on conquering the north face of Arthur's Seat, and doing so in good weather (which is rare). You were very lucky because Scotland is not particularly famous for its sun-kissed days. Scottish comedian Billy Connolly once described the climate as "six months of bad weather, followed by winter"! Well done for trying some of the local cuisine(?). Have a good time in Paris...…................…...the old man by the sea.
We were VERY lucky with the weather on our first day. Not so lucky with the weather when we went to Loch Ness haha. I for sure got the full range of Scottish weather.
i love Liverpool
Ireland is one of the safest countries in the world!! So glad you had such a great time!!
Thanks for showing what was obviously a great weekend. Solo travel can be so liberating, you start off intending to go somewhere and then end up somewhere completely different, and there's no-one else to complain!...…………...............…...the old man by the sea.
hano verian exactly!!!! It’s so nice to get some time alone now and then :)
I can feel the wind. The daffodils are lovely. Great sound. Thanks for the treat, honey.
It was great to watch you wandering around York, and rain-free! That is one of my favourite places in the north. By the time you get back home, you'll probably walk everywhere without a second thought...………………………………………...the old man by the sea.
It was such a lovey city!!! So much to see, and I was so pleased that the weather was nice! and yes- I'll have no trouble walking anywhere once I get home. Who needs a car?? haha!
I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. You are, of course, perfectly right about grieving. After all, you have lost a part of your family and that is never easy, be it a pooch or a person. Even when it's expected, it is still a massive blow and being absent doesn't help. On a lighter note, I envy you the trip to CadburyWorld (it used to be called Bourneville before the company was sold to a US corporation). Free chocolate too, although I believe that visitors are not allowed out of England until they've tried a CurlyWurly! ……………………............….the old man by the sea.
Thank you, as always, for your kind words. They are so appreciated. And yes! Cadbury world was a lot of fun!!! I've been enjoying the coconut Toblerone quite a lot!
I'm not hearing you, honey, and I absolutely hate it. I've got my ears on, but no cigars. I so want to hear your words as well as view the images. Sending love from MO
huh... thats odd. I don't have any issues with the audio on my end, and it seems that others have been able to hear it- could it be something up with your speakers perhaps? I hope it's not an issue with the video itself. I want you to be able to hear it, as well.
@@NicoleMiller-ej7qz I'm sure it's my end. Not to worry. Onward and onward.
That was 3:54 well spent, I don't think I have ever felt so moved so quickly. We all have lumps of sadness inside and deal with them as best we can. It just goes to show you that places can heal as effectively as medicines. Your photography was brilliant, it has an almost lyrical quality about it. The whole thing was a few short minutes of joy. Thank you...............................the old man by the sea.
That is INCREDIBLY kind of you to say. Thank you so much. It is lovely to know that my videos are reaching people, other than just my immediate friends and family. <3
Love the music you chose for the back ground. Fits well with the sites. O the adventures of life...
Desert Hugh Freeman thank you!! I try my best to pick fitting music for each place I go :)
Your videos remind me of the size and depth of the world. Thank you for sharing your travels.
Sidney Sullivan thank YOU for encouraging me on my journey 💕
Liverpool Anglican cathedral is huge, isn't it? I remember, years ago, standing on top of the tower and seeing the hills of Wales in the distance. May I suggest that you take a trip to Chester, not far from Liverpool. It was built by the Romans as Deva (the river there is the Dee) and it still has it's medieval walls surrounding it. Also York has it's walls still and is bigger, although further away from you. Anyway, whatever you do keep up the great videos, they're so enjoyable...……………………………….the old man by the sea.
It was so massive and so beautiful. And I'm hoping to get to York at some point, but I hadn't thought to go to Chester! Will for sure look into that! Thank you so much!
Did you enjoy your first welshcake? Next time you go try laverbread (actually a type of seaweed, very nutritious) and bara brith, a sweet bread made with dried fruits. Also, if you enjoy cheese, Caerphilly is excellent, very white and crumbly. Wherever you go in the UK there are great things to eat and most are locally produced. I cannot understand why we have a reputation for bad food...……………………………….the old man by the sea.
hano verian the welshcake was DELICIOUS! And I love trying new foods so I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for those next time :) I’ve loved everything I’ve eaten in the UK so far
An experience like this is bound to change you, it can't fail to do so. To use an analogy from the insect world, you got on that plane as a caterpillar and now you are a chrysalis undergoing a complete metamorphosis. When you leave here, you will have become a butterfly and be ready to spread your wings and fly. This time has removed your blinkers and shown you that you are capable of anything you wish...………………………….the old man by the sea.
PLEASE, do not waste money on bottled water. Buy a plastic container and fill it from the tap. We are lucky enough to have the purest public supply in Europe. This should save you a few pounds every week. Sorry about the grim weather but it shouldn't last too much longer. Just relax, it's going to be fine...………................……….the old man by the sea.
Thank you for all your kind words and advice! truly much appreciated. :)
There really is a lot to see in our small, damp island. The problem is fitting it all in. Keep up the vlogs...…………………..the old man by the sea.
Cheer up, the thing to remember is that all the other overseas students are in the same boat. They're all in a strange place, in a strange country and some are dealing with a strange language as well. This is why you will tend to bond more easily. I wish you much joy in your studies and travels over here. Have fun exploring Brum (it's a great place for a curry!)…………………………………….the old man by the sea.
Loved this. You are doing amazingly. I am wandering youtube watching a few uni vids as came to Birmingham recently with daughter as it's an option for her. We didn't expect to love it but thought the uni was beautiful and the city so vibrant , warm and friendly. Hope it continues well for you. Well done!
Thank you so much!! The uni is so nice and extremely beautiful. I've been so surprised with how much there is to see and do in Birmingham. If your daughter ends up going here, I'm sure she'll love it. :)
Thank you for freely sharing your thoughts, my dear. Much appreciated!
thank YOU for watching and keeping up and caring about what I have to say <3
my hat turns a different colour a quarter of the way through lool
hope you feel better soon! your resilience is so lovely.
kelsey marie Thank you!!!
I choked on water at "guess who's crying again." Almost died.
Damn I’m so happy you’re doing this and can’t wait to watch your journey and see your growth!! I know we haven’t talked in a long time but I want to let you know that I support you and love you and want the very best to come out of this experience for you! Subscribed:D
Rachel Seitz that means so much, thank you 💕💕💕 you are so kind.
