So, you either like sounding like you know anything about piano playing, but you don't... Or you're the kind of person who just has to put something down, even if it's just some gibberish excuse. This is a very old theme called la folia, which was used by musicians even from 1500 s

Well Wikipedia says its an ostinato progression, from my listening experience all folias sound the same, corelli , vivaldi and handel all used it and generally theme sounds almost identical

@@thenoblegnuwildebeest3625from a historical perspective, it’s hard to answer that. What we think of as la folia is its later form in history. The melody and the chords were both known but people took liberties with them and improvised using them.

Haëndel's sarabande melody is based in the folía theme. La folía is not only the chord progression, also the melody and the rythm. And as said by another person, it has been used since renaissance in Spain, way before Corelli and Haëndel, Rachmaninoff didn't know about the folía, even though he played a lot of times Liszt's spanish raphsody which has a folía part. He was told by a musicologist, after 2 concerts playing this piece, that it wasn't Corelli's theme, but the folía theme.
