"Hand Picked - Acoustic Excellence" Slow Down To My Speed

An arrangement of the Alan Tunbridge song I first learned from the singing of my oul' chum John the Fish in the folk clubs of the South West. I think John learned it from the performances and recordings of Wizz Jones who covered so many of Alan's fantastic songs. Adrian O'Reilly, my musical collaborator and fellow member of "Hand Picked - Acoustic Excellence" plays some very fine guitar accompa...

This old traditional song was always a favourite of my long time dear friend and boon companion, Joe Lappin and also of my late brother Tony. I'm posting this as a remembrance of them both as the anniversaries of their passing are occurring about this time. Joe on the 21st April and Tony on the 25th. It was recorded 'accidentally' by Adrian O'Reilly and I as we rehearsed one day. We'd no though...

Vernon Rose: The Bantry Girl's Lament (aka The King Of Spain)
Brilliant Mic!!
I was so pleased to come by this. I was a regular at the folk club in the 70s and played in a couple of bands with lovely Mike Smith. At one point we represented Cornwall at the Celtic song festival in Killarney with "Kemsysk" which featured Mike, Merv Davey, Mandy, Ashley and me. Vernon's voice and this song in particular will almost haunt me in the most lovely way. He passed away a couple of years ago but I, for one, will always hold his memory dear. The combination of Vernon's singing and pictures of the Falmouth of my childhood (before the 2nd home owners destroyed Cornwall, just as they are destroying Brittany where I now live) made me weep buckets.
beautiful
What a lovely rendition. Thanks Mic. This is one of the best versions of Who Knows Where The Time Goes? that I've heard by a male voice. it takes a lot of courage or experience. .. or both ... to sing this and make it work. It's not an easy song to get your head around and it needs committment and conviction - a complete investment of feeling - to be a success. And I really enjoy the lyrical guitar arrangement with your colleague (sorry, don't know his name). Thanks again. You're an inspiration.
This could be better than the original. The guitar makes it
This is exactly why I 'Tube. Cat's ass! Thanks, eh.

Guy on his phone distracting us.....and he knew it was being filmed!
he should at least be able to play the guitar...
like it, actually I don't mind the e-minor instead of e-major :) I also recorded this a few years ago
Beautiful
I saw you play this the other night at the Admiral Bendow & I think it's great! Nice one :)
This is real life. Can you please let us know the tuning? I think is some open tuning but I'd like to know the chords. Thanks!
Banjo? Who's Andy Gren on Banjo. No one plays banjo. There's a fella joins on at the end, but he's nae playin' the banjo.
Is it the guy on the left (Bonnet/cap fella) that plays the melody on the gituar? The whole thing's nice.
This is beautiful, lads. Well done. Very well done. I applaud you.
Nicely done Mic, me ol' wazzok. As ever, performed with your usual consummate warmth and feeling. Keep on plucking!
lovely, thanks for that.
Lovely stuff you guys a beautiful arrangement. Guitar is sounding good Mic.
Very lovely Mic.
Gentle simple, Cornish beauty, in song........ I adore Thorn and Roses, they always treat such lovely songs with the respect they deserve xx

Liked everything about this. Thanks Mic, and thanks also to your accomplices.
Not familiar with this number, Mic, but then as you may well know it is not "of my favourite genre",............ seems like a lot of the audience know the words though, or at least the refrain, eh ? Notwithstanding, very nicely done mate.
Now where the "****" have I heard that before,............... and more to the point how long ago,.............. ?
Liked everything about this. Many thanks to Mic and co..
Very nice Mic, ........ very nice indeed. It seems to me that you are something, akin to a fine old wine, or maybe a ripe old cheese,......... you are not only mellowing, but you are still improving with age ! Ho Ho Ho. Have a good Christmas you old reprobate !
Beautiful song.. beautifully played and beautifully sung.
Thank you Mo, that means a lot to me.
vernon rose had a voice like molten honey. i really would love to find a recording of his song.. KATY OH.. which he used to sing in falmouth folk club around 1968?
Hello Pat - I am Vernon's oldest daughter (grew up as Mandy but now use my other name, Rachel) who now lives in Melbourne with my own family. Vernon did record a cassette tape in 2000 (for his 70th birthday) and Katie o is on this recording which is called Old Friends. Dad now lives in Halesworth, Suffolk.

Listened to Vernon singing this beautifully when he sang in The Butley Oyster, near Orford, Suffolk. Was with my great pal Paddy. Great times when life was simpler and safer. Both have gone to the folk club in the sky now, but have left us with beautiful happy memories. 💚🤍🧡
Wish I'd been there that night1 Thanks, Mic.
how lovely Mic. Always loved this song. A fitting tribute.
Ah Billy, I used to sing the full version of this in the Folk Club in Tengah Village when we, you Joe me and others, went for a wee song before hitting the bars with a fury hard to describe these days! Great days.
Thanks Alan.
Thanks Toni.
