WhatIff We Stop The Bias?
It's show week again with the AV industry descending on #InfoComm24, so here is a throwback to #ISE24!
I was lucky enough to get some time to talk to Cerys Dron and Chandra Leung from Leyard Europe about how their first #ISE show had been, what the interactions had been like and what we could be doing better!
There were definitely some great points, but there were some not so great points too - have a listen!
If you are heading around the show floor, whether at #Infocomm or #LondonTechWeek or anywhere really, do give a thought to those who are working in these windowless, highly stimulating, noisy environments that we love so much for hours and hours each day!
And if you notice a younger team member, who maybe from a minority group, try to be patient, ask the question you intended to ask, and don't assume that they won't know the answer! Let's #BreakTheBias!

WhatIff We Challenged Stereotypes? - Part 2

What an absolute privilege to spend some time with the wonderful Kylie Kendrick from Durham University at #ISE2024 this January in Barcelona! We all have bias - I admit that when I think of e-sports, I imagine gamers to be mainly Caucasian males, but in fact there are more women / non-binary players now, and considering how long Kylie has been playing, females have been doing pretty well in the...

It was a huge privilege to spend some time with Maxwell Mcknight! He is a 2nd year Business Management student at Anglia Ruskin University, and is looking for a placement for the next academic year - 2024/2025. Maxwell has lived with Spinal Muscular Atrophy since he was a child, but this has by no means held him back! He has faced the challenges of #accessibility throughout his life but is one ...

In this final part both Caroline and I share some of our every day experiences, simple things - as separate incidents, nothing too shocking, but each remind us of the times that we were seen as 'different' and not 'white' before being seen as the people we are, and then treated differently as a result! I have often described being 'of colour' as walking with a stone in my shoe my whole life - a...

Caroline and I continue the conversation about collective responsibility - how comfortable do you feel in challenging discrimination or racism in your workplace? Do you notice or recognise that some people have had to work to harder to overcome their areas of discrimination, to hide elements of their personality, background or culture in order to 'fit in'? How many people have changed or shorte...

This #BlackHistoryMonth why not reach out to colleagues and ask them what they think about this month - whatever their background? #WhatIff we learnt about each other's stories and history and in particular about the contribution made to industry and society by minority groups? #WhatIff valuing each other as humans first was a priority taught in society? We still live in a world where people ar...
WhatIff We Break the Stigma? Part 3

Iffat asks Russell Harpham and Dan Rowe #WhatIff we could break the stigma around men’s mental health? What can we do to support our colleagues, friends and family? How do we encourage responsibility? I often speak about collective responsibility when it comes to tackling discrimination, but in this instance we need to encourage and empower men to take responsibility for turning up to weekly se...

Iffat asks Russell Harpham and Dan Rowe #WhatIff we could break the stigma around men’s mental health? I am pretty sure most of us have heard, and maybe some of us admit to having used, the phrase 'he needs to grow a pair!' in response to a man struggling with their mental health issues. #MentalHealth doesn't discriminate! It impacts all of us to varying degrees every day, regardless of our age...

Iffat asks Russell Harpham and Dan Rowe #WhatIff we could break the stigma around men’s mental health? We will often put expectations on men to behave in a certain way - gender roles are engrained in society, but in recent years, we have also been asking men to be good allies to support those struggling with discrimination, but shouldn’t we also be thinking about their wellbeing too? Traditiona...

In this episode we discussed the struggle of fighting against being yourself because of all the external pressures that exist in society as a whole. Being kind is just so much easier than making another human being's life difficult. Making someone feel excluded or fearful should not make anyone feel good - and yet it persists. #DiversityMatters #InclusivityMatters #EquityMatters Please do conne...

Jessica very importantly shares that it's not essential to respond negatively every single time she is...

"The Talk" used to be a conversation about the birds and the bees. Now it's a conversation to keep our kids alive. It's really sad.
Very powerful!! I do the same thing. Always get the receipt - proof is power! But the reality is - so I dont have to deal with the headache when and if they stop me...
I loveeeeee this. Good to see my big sister doing her thing. Bajan accent still strong 😂😂😂😂.
Thank you for the shout out! I hope to see both of you ladies next.
Excellent chat Iffat. Hope all goes well in Orlando x
Another awesome and thought provoking episode 👍👍❤❤
This series at Infocomm was a lot of fun!!! 🤪

that was a very fun video/podcast to watch and listen to.
Great show! Happy to help with the purge! 😁😈 As for what Richard Hutton said, I don't actually blame millennials or Gen Z for anything I blame the boomers and my Gen X compatriots, we're the problem. The younger generation wants to work, but the older generation doesn't want to adapt to the way things are now, they want things to be as they've always been because that's how they get to live a good life by their standards. At the end of the day, we're all susceptible to be purged at any given day, the world changes around us, and we are responsible for changing with it or getting left behind. The purge can just be a self-purge by refusing to adapt, you find yourself staring at the backside of the future as it passes you by. Cheers to #AVJam -- great show!
Nob heads
Great video, very funny👍
Someone been to see Hamilton recently?
Love the different perspectives! Gabe’s straight forward “stupid” perspective cracks me up! He’s right, but so funny!!!
Look out for #5 mate. Gabe is even more "on it"
Great show, keep up the great work!
Thanks AV Buddy ... Appreciated!
I always love hearing what Alesia and Alexis have to say <3
You picked probably some of the nicest things that I had to say 🤣
Wait 😂
Where did you find all these smart people?
Infocomm is a great show😅
Some smart people in there.
I love the way you guys did this, spot on!
Cheers Gabe
Great show! Love what HETMA is doing to increase diversity. Iffat, awesome host as always. Erin, Adam, and Matt, solid insight regarding initiatives and roadblocks. Keep up the good fight. You can't control people, but your positive influence and lead by example will get and keep people/orgs moving in the right direction.
The show just started and I had already lost my voice and (based on the long pauses) my mind... it was only Wednesday morning! Thank you so much for having me on.
Greatest trailers in the history of trailers!
whoop whoop!
Trouble is on the horizon. Batten down the hatches and store the sails.
DM us to join in the recordings!!!
great show 👍
Brilliant, brilliant episode…. I think we need to do a #WhatIff 101 🤔🤔
Interesting convo!
Great talk again Iffat, I liked when Bas said "what about me, I'm a working father" - it hurts both sides of the arguments, because oftentimes the man is not seen as a caregiver when they are or the one for love which they can be, so they're not allowed to take off from work for the family moments, or events. Thankfully things are changing, but still long ways to go. Congrats on the great panel! I especially enjoy that its not really about AV, it's about the people working, they just happen to be in the AV industry! Cheers to you!
Thank you Gabe, I agree! Assumptions made in any work place are a lot harder to deal with than actually asking the person directly! It's all part of the journey!
What a great discussion. Thanks for addressing the subject and I look forward to part 2!
Thank you Joel! Not long to wait!
Congratulations for getting this going Iffat! Nice to hear from you and all the guests!!
Thank you so much Amelia, I appreciate your support!
congratulations Iffat, I found myself immersed in thought within the first minute and even had to go back a couple of times as I'd become lost in my own analysis of the subject. looking forward to future episodes.
Thank you Steve - that means a lot!
Thank you Iffat for having me on show. I'm so excited to see where you can take this subject and help drive awareness. #whatiff #avtweeps
Thank you for joining me Chris - and for all your support!
Great episode Iffat! So excited to see what you're doing!
Thank you so much Gabe, means a lot!
Can’t wait to see this develop. Thanks for asking me…
Thank you so much - for all your support and encouragement!
It's so important to have open and honest conversations. I too am aiming for grumpy old sod.
Yes it is - thank you Katherine! You're not grumpy enough btw! ;o)
Yay!!!! They're back!!!! It better not be the last one!
Maybe.....!
See twitter tonight Gabe

You are all awesome! So happy to see everything you put out.
Loving it 😍
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with next 👍 I'll be 👀
Rocking along nicely
Interesting feedback, the P series are not a one size fits all but each designed for specific user persona, i use a P15 with Dual 27" and i tell people as you did, if you want a bigger screen get a 32" Samsung or LG stick a P5 or 15 on top and a sync or headset too. The Beauty of the P21 is that 1 USB connection not 1 USB for the camera 1 HDMI for the screen, 1 USB for the speaker phone and then being able to mute and unmute from the buttons with a visual light without finding your mouse pointer and the teams or zoom app. This is my high-level recommendation on the p series choice. P5 - level up from your inbuilt laptop camera adds 1080p stick your Bluetooth in the back great low light handling and can be detach as a document camera etc good for all P15 - for those that have a dedicated home office space maybe large and or dual displays and can use the speakers etc and want the best quality 4k video with framing maybe you also create videos and webinars youtube videos 😁 P21 - Great for non technical employees that have a small laptop and want a slick looking second screen camera and audio in a kitchen or bedroom they can plug in with one cable when home working , its also great for putting in video pods or booths in offices again for users to easily connect to for calls and of course all these assets can be managed and tracked centrally through Lense
Neil, I don’t see how the P21 can go in a pod if you need to install drivers? Unless, you make the software standard build & that means a business change & I just don’t see that happening. & the lights? 🤣😂
Think the exhibitors need more edibles before the shows start? Maybe the booth designers.
Frank get to the point already.
🤣😂😅
Having gone through it - this is not an exclusionary process, it is an inclusionary one. It's about going through the process to ensure that you can meet the quality that the platforms are looking for.
another great Jam 🍻
This bugs me to no end and sadly I think it is just us that care. My wife and I sit and watch news broadcasts together and she knows when I've stopped listening and started stewing over the crappy audio and video. Definitely a resi opportunity there to outfit someone's home office with the proper gear to join these broadcasts from their house.
Love this Nyere. Thanks for sharing 😋
Love this ❤ great Jam 👍
Kev at the OFFICE! this is new for me :D
