    Well, the government is in bed with the processed food manufacturers, so there will be no change.the education about food is totally corrupted and paid for by food manufacturers.

    Especially because healthier food tends to be more hardy. I personally choose food for how filling it is, and not health, because buying extra food is a ridiculous price(salad dressing is like $1.20, a poptart is $2.50, etc…)

    I'd donate to Balanced but I live in Australia so it would not benefit me at all. If I was in USA I would for sure. We need a Balanced in Australia. Schools here are very backwards in terms of nutritional science and compassionate living.

    Baby milk is full of saturated fat and cholesterol. Evolution has chosen to give the baby two of the most important nutrients for health. The organ with the most cholesterol is the brain that's why high fat diets cure epilepsy. Cholesterol is essential for making hormones like testosterone and oestrogen and is used for making vitamin D. Also if we're not allowed to eat saturated fat what do you suggest all the obese people do with theirs? Liposuction? They have to metabolise it by fasting and going into ketosis.

    • @thebalancedorg
      @thebalancedorg 3 роки тому

      Thanks for your comment, Azim. In the interest of promoting science-based dialogue, we'd love to elaborate on some of the points you brought up. The fatty acid composition of human breast milk varies in response to maternal diet. Low quality maternal diets are associated with higher saturated fat and lower polyunsaturated fat content in breast milk. Saturated fat in breast milk is important, however. Infancy is a time of very rapid growth. Fat, being very calorically dense, is beneficial to this end. But, babies only need to breastfeed exclusively for the first 4-6 months, then stop completely after 1 to 2 years. It is inappropriate to extrapolate what is necessary for a newborn infant to what is optimal for a toddler, adolescent, middle-aged adult, etc. (Imagine if full-grown cows drank their own milk instead of eating grass.) Studies consistently show that higher saturated fat intake increases LDL (bad) cholesterol, particularly as those saturated fats tend to come from animal-source foods rather than cashews, for example. Re: dietary cholesterol, it is in low quantities in breast milk, and humans are capable of endogenously producing all the cholesterol we need, meaning we do not need to consume it from foods. As for visceral body fat, when you consume fewer calories than can support the maintenance of those fat cells, your body breaks down the fatty acids into carbon dioxide and water through a series of oxidation reactions that do not involve ketosis. Fasting, which does induce ketosis, is just one way of losing body fat; simply eating fewer calories every day and/or increasing your energy expenditure through exercise are other ways.

      @@thebalancedorg thanks for your response. Maybe we can agree that processed food is the real danger. When plant food is highly purified so it has no nutrients left these become poisons. The worst being vegetable oils, trans fats, margarine, white flour and sugar. These together with often a long list of chemical additives makes up modern processed food: bread, cakes, doughnut's, biscuits, cereals, deserts, crisps, chocolates and foods fried in vegetable oil. I am sure we can agree that eating real whole food is best.

    • @thebalancedorg
      @thebalancedorg 3 роки тому

      @@akhusal Yes, in fact a lot of our work focuses on reducing the amount of ultra-processed foods (like the baked goods you mentioned) served by institutions like schools, hospitals, and more. We can definitely agree that menus rich in whole, nutrient-dense plant foods are a great way to support our families' health! :)

    The last nutritionfacts.org UA-cam video on iodine appears to be way back in 2011: ua-cam.com/video/HWT9lw-9EvM/v-deo.html. (Essentially, sea vegetables and/or iodized salt, or supplementation). Is that still the latest info and recommendation? How do we no we are getting enough, and how do we know if we are over doing it? Thank you for all the amazing videos with well researched information. That's extremely refreshing these days!

    • @thebalancedorg
      @thebalancedorg 3 роки тому

      Yes, Dr. Greger's general advice on iodine adequacy is still good/relevant. Healthy average adults (who are not pregnant) need around 150 micrograms per day of iodine. I would shoot for roughly that amount every day. Speak to a physician or dietitian if you have concerns about your iodine levels and your specific needs. For general information purposes, you can check out this reference sheet on iodine: ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/Iodine-HealthProfessional/ -Maddy

    The time for requests has passed. A request has no weight -- no obligation to respond. A demand is a request with consequences giving it strength. Now is the time to demand good nutritious food, and to take action when the food system abdicates its responsibility.

    "One serving of beans or lentils increases your lifespan by two to four years." I think he is missing a few key words there, otherwise I should expect to live until the next millennium! "per day" or "per week" perhaps?

      Thank you for your comment. It does appear those words are missing in his response. This was a candid interview/response scenario intended to capture their reactions and thoughts to the food being served in their local hospital. There is strong evidence to show increased consumption of legumes (lentils included) reduces premature mortality rates. nutritionfacts.org/video/increased-lifespan-from-beans/ “8% reduction in risk of death for every 20 grams increase in daily legumes intake.”
