HARTLEPOOL 1963 DOCUMENTARY. “WAITING FOR WORK” - PART 3
Переглядів 852 роки тому
politically passionate Jack Ashley was one of the first working class reporters at the BBC. He wanted to show the suffering caused by high unemployment. The documentary caused a storm. Whilst making the film Jack Ashley stayed at the Grand Hotel, but he felt uncomfortable living in luxury while he interviewed people in poverty. Instead, to get to know the community better, he moved in with a lo...
Boy and Bicycle - 1965 - Hartlepool Ridley & Tony Scott
Переглядів 6152 роки тому
The late Tony Scott stars in an atmospheric first film by his older brother Ridley, as a schoolboy playing truant for the day in Hartlepool. One of composer John Barry's more surprising mid-1960s credits was for this low-budget short film by a promising young director named Ridley Scott. He had shot the film silently on 16mm when still a student at the Royal College of Art, and three years late...

Do you know the year this was made?
I find this fascinating. My grandparents were in West Hartlepool and my dad grew up here. Its emotional to visit Hartlepool. The history is amazing.
SAD TO SEE THAT IT ALL WENT DOWN HILL FOR THE WORKING OF PEOPLE OF THE TOWN SINCE THEN.
There are no Geordies in Hartlepool... Unless they've moved down from Newcastle.
Drink a lot of pints in Yemen don't they.
I miss these so much…slaters pick m/bro ❤
I grew up reading Andy Capp in the newspaper. Smythe has one of the most original and unique drawing styles. Andy Capp was one of my all time favorites.
It's worse now.
It’s nice to see everything has gotten worse over the last 50 years. I love being alive.
Great story...good man Reg!
CLASS total Class from a born and bred headlander in 1955 in Penrith street. The memories that this brought back. Hopefully i will be back down there to live there again.
Cheerless Northern town, lmao!
It's an absolute SHITHOLE?🙏 But the weather and a swim at Seaton Carew beach will cheer you up🫣😭
Yes. As a youngster I used to watch the men hard at work collecting the sea coal from the sea shore at Seaton Carew, Hartlepool. We used sea coal in our coal fire at home. Maybe my dad collected some of it. We did not have a car or a motorbike. My dad had to travel all the way to Head Wrighton's, in all weathers, on a pushbike!!!
10/12 yr old. WE were collecting seacoal on the tides. to fill the bags and thenpush the push bikes home for heating in the winter. NO dad just 2 kids and a mam.
When hartlepool votes in a tory mp labour really needs to retreat inside the m25
And Hartlepool almost looks quite unrecognisable back then.
Cheerless I think that’s a bit understatement even now I live in hartlepool and there’s still happiness not all bad.
Yer I know the cheeky muppet
Even though Andy camp was before my time I found my stepdads comic books and he had peanuts, Andy capp, Garfield, marmaduke, beetle baily, b.c., the Wizard of id. I thought Andy capp was the funniest of all because of his boozing, ass kicking, flirting ways then there's his wife who wasn't afraid to put Andy in his place and was the bread winner while Andy was the bread loser
Interesting that Andy Capp was 'syndicated in America'. Peanuts, Garfield and Marmaduke are very American. But how do they get Andy Capp, as it were?
Superb. Beautiful presentation.
10/10
At age 4 my dad buy's The Mirror news paper and when my dad finish reading his news paper I flip over my dads news paper to see Andy Capp and all these years I've loved it ever since. I hope they'll do a real movie of Andy Capp soon!!
Andy Capp has problem of being so good comic strip. Adaptation demands expansion and that breaks the comedy Andy Capp is built upon. I personally feel Rab C. Nesbitt is best adaptation of Andy Capp in spirit.
A star-in-the-making! 🔥😎 I love her one in a billion voice, her creativity and her great work ethic!
This guy was my teacher for like a year and got completely bullied for these videos
Skid Sprocket is alive and well! A few years ago I met Reg's niece and she gave me permission to republish his speedway and Skid Sprocket cartoons in booklet form. These were sold to raise funds for the speedway riders benevolent fund. I still have a batch of "Smythe's Speedway World" containing over 70 cartoons if anyone is interested. Reg's niece also has a book out titled My Dancing Bear on the life of Reg Smythe.
Do it! This would be absolutely fantastic
Reg sounds like Brian Clough... No surprise considering they're both from the North East...
Great, Thisis the first time that i see an interview to Reg Smythe, this make me happy. I have Always read Andy Capp.
