F my life!! I've looked high and low for info on this rod and what line to put on it. My damn luck, talking about what i need and sound goes kaput. This rod has a max gram wt. of 210g. Good luck finding a line wt. within the limits. FUCK

So I just bought a 4wt 11'6 redington hydrogen troutspey and i'm wondering how it will do with the RIO gamechanger. I want that line because it is multidensity shooting head that will slow my drift and get down. The grain window is 325-300, but the lowest gamechanger grain line they have is 350... Would this work? Or would it cast terribly?

Great question Michael! Like you were saying the Rio Gamechanger only comes in 350 grains/5wt Spey or greater. You could push the Hydrogen but I wouldn't recommend it when you have a couple more options such as the OPST Commando Groove 250 grains (270 if you want to over line it) or Scientific Anglers Spey Lite Intermediate 270-300 grain. Both are intermediate sinking heads which will accomplish slowing your drift.

@@JohnDriessenLikesBikes What is your experience with intermediate sinking heads on trout spey setup? It kind of confuses me because isn't one of the main goals of spey to get your fly moving slow and broadside? And if these intermediate heads achieve this, why doesn't everyone have and use them? Why aren't these heads all the rave? or maybe they are, but i would expect to see more products it they were.

@michaelsw0rd your absolutely right! The reason many folks aren't fishing intermediate heads more often is often due to the river and structure their fishing. Generally if you're fishing a river with lots of structure and in the 0 - 6 ft depth range a floating head works great with a sink tip (Payette River, Bitterroot River). It's versatile and keeps you from getting hung up if you're fishing around boulders etc. However, if you're lucky enough to be on a river such as the Lower Salmon, Clearwater, or Clark Fork, rivers which are a bit deeper and less structure to get hung up on an intermediate head will work great and I would 100% recommend. Hopefully this makes sense. Basically it's situational to the river. The second reason more folks are swinging intermediate heads is simply it's kind of new. Trout spey heads stole the idea from steelhead anglers. Word just hasn't spread much. In a perfect world we would all carry three heads with us. A floating skagit, scandi, and an intermediate skagit head.

@@JohnDriessenLikesBikes That's super helpful info! I think i'll go with a floating line then for my first line on the trout spey since its more versatile.

@@michaelsw0rd We hope to have a video out here soon as we review the new Orvis Mission Skagit Heads and tips. If you have yet to check them out they are in my top two skagit head (OPST in the running) combined with their textured T-8 tips. 310 Mission head combined with their three tip wallet and it's a hard combination to beat on a 4wt!

Do you think you can provide a better audio for this? I'm interested in hearing but the wind noise is just too much.
