Original music by a father, husband, writer, and more. I started learning guitar a few years ago (December 2016). Now I can't stop writing songs (I'm at over 123 and still going). I'm no pro. My voice isn't great. But I'm recording them here so that my kids will remember me and the music long after I'm gone. @@cbfall if you don’t know them, they have been around since the aughts and all their songs have uplifting messages. I’ve been a fan since ‘06-‘08 but this was my first time seeing them.

@@cbfallSomeone else had sent me lyrics too but I didn’t come up with anything. 99 percent of my songs start with a tune on guitar. Often I have the vocalizations. Then I sit and think about the song … searching for what it should be about.

HI Edward. Thanks very much. Yeah, I think it's a really good guitar. Love the warm mellow sound. What strings are you going with? Do you know? I'm currently using the ones that Martin recommends for all of its guitars. Can't remember exactly which they are though.
@@jimperfectjim I am using Martin Retro monel wound strings-light gauge. The same ones that came with the guitar. I tried Phosphor Bronze, but I think the monel provides a "meatier" sound for lack of a better word.

Thanks user. Love that Donovan song! I consider it the grandfather of indie alt. Particularly Left Hand Free by Alt J. Check that out if you don’t know it. When I wrote this song it reminded me of a combo of Phantom Planet and the Talking Heads.

I like your universal theme of how we need a sense of purpose and how we face the abyss of the unknown future we try to in some ways control. Thanks for once again sharing your meaningful lyrics and talent! I can tell you do the same as myself with the microphone being closer to your guitar than to your voice as I'm missing out on some of your pertinent lyrics. it's funny as I say this and I still get the problem of my guitar sounding too strong yet this very generous fan of my music does the remastering but gave me advice about mic placement. This is amazing as you said you only recently started songwriting and playing!

And yeah, my problem with the mic is that I'm just using an older iPhone--no external mic--and when I record these I'm really trying to show where my hands are on the neck so that people can see how the songs are played. I know that's real important to me when I watch singer/guitarists play. I like to see the chords. The problem is that then my voice is further away. The thing is, I don't consider myself a singer. The singing just comes with the territory of writing songs.
@@jimperfectjim Hi! I see and also that's what I look for when someone is playing, where their hands are. It's harder to see with me, but they can get an idea. Since I have external mics and a small space that's what I end up with. I wasn't imagining you with an all in one phone setup. It's amazing how you have so much lyrics with each song and don't need them in front of you. a great thing for you to do in writing a song for your daughter!
@@mwj5368 Thanks. I've written a couple for my kids and a couple for my wife. As for the lyrics I do have them in front of me from time to time. Had them here as well but only for reference on a few lines so I don't mess up. I wrote this a while back so it's pretty much memorized.

"...get out of town", "Find your way home." and like how you use imagery like the trees and leaves you chose as your background that blends in nicely with your song. (I wrote that before your closing statement ha!) The harmonica you play adds a nice touch and reminds me of Dylan! You wrote a nice song to relax to and in a poignant setting! Also I recognize you have the very same harmonica brace I have. I guess it's the way I play but I had to wrap cloth around the wing nuts as that joint presses into my chest too hard. It looks like you play harmonica right and don't jam your mouth into it like I do ha!
Thank you for the nice comments, Michael! I really appreciate it. I was inspired by my yard and the way the sun shone down on the leaves. I love to sit out back after work and listen to music or play guitar and watch the sun go down out there. It's just so beautiful and soothing. The song also had a lot to do with shutting out all the negative during Covid. I'm really glad you like the harmonica part. I love that too. Yes very Dylan-esque. I love that kind of harmonica in songs. Pulls my heartstrings. As for the rack, I don't know if you're like me, but I struggle with placing it just right. I feel I play with it too close to my mouth but whenever I adjust it, it's too far. I can't see to do that hunch and push-up thing that other people do with theirs to get it up to their mouths. Plus, I can't seem to get the bend right. It always shifts to the side while not playing. I bought another rack but I haven't used it. You need hands like a vice to pry it open to slip a harmonica in!
HI! I like your metaphor with "sticks and stones" and how depressing war is and your minor key signature is very poignant with this meaningful song. I think of the hundreds of thousands of lives lost over the past few months because of war and think of the war here within too with your song. That's great you put it out on Tik Tok. I thought with Tik Tok you only have a max of one minute per video. How were you able to post your whole 5 minute song there? I have original songs too with my UA-cam channel and thinking maybe I should post there too. Thanks for sharing your talent and meaningful theme!
Hi MWJ. Thank you so much for the comment and appreciation for the song. I just joined TikTok last month (I think). I believe you can post up to 10 minutes. Most people are in it/on it for the quick snippets so they just do that. I used to thing the same thing about them only being able to do 15 second clips. Anyway, I highly recommend you post there as well as here. Different audiences. Also, post on Instagram. I do all. I started posting here so that I can leave something behind of me for my kids when I'm gone someday.
