Carbon Neutral at JHP
Our environmental impact is extremely important to us at JHP as the people we photograph are the ones it will affect the most. We have been on a mission to reduce and recycle materials over the last 10 years.
We set a goal to become Carbon Neutral and this year we have achieved that. We have partnered with Carbon Neutral Britain to ensure any remaining carbon footprint we create has been offset with contributions to various environmental projects around the world and here at home.
The first step was trying to reduce, reuse and recycle ourselves. We have reduced the amount of packaging we use overall by 90% over the last 10 years and where possible we reuses any packaging. We also recycle all of the waste we possibly can. Our energy comes from renewable sources and all chemistry used is cleaned inhouse using a metafix silver recovery system. We continue to improve every season with waste savings being extremely high on the agenda of improvements.

Lark Hill Place

Take a step back in time to Lark Hill Place, an atmospheric re-creation of a typical northern street. Usually set in 1897, this year we have dressed our shop windows as if the year is 1918, to mark 100 years since the end of World War One. The street has changed over the year of war - shops have less product to sell, partial rationing has been introduced and families who live on the street are ...
Victorian Gallery

During the reign of Queen Victoria the North West grew in importance and wealth due to increased trade and commerce brought by the Industrial Revolution. The newly rich merchants and manufacturers used their money to buy art which in turn brought artists new levels of wealth and social prestige. Art was seen as a way of educating the masses and new museums and galleries were created housing the...

Itanlianate Room
Переглядів 43 роки тому
This room was built as a privy chamber for the Radclyffe family and, as its name suggests, is dominated by a rare and decorative paneled plaster ceiling. A two-storey extension (of which this room was part) was attached to the east side of the Hall during the late 1400s to the early 1500s. Timbers in this room date to around 1460. Although visitors cannot enter this room (due to the sensitive n...
The Kitchen at Ordsall Hall
Переглядів 143 роки тому
The present day kitchen dates back to the 1630s. It probably replaced a kitchen dating from the 1500s, which would have been located roughly in the same area and included a brew houses, buttery and pantry. Today, the kitchen is set as if preparing for the wedding feast of Sir John Radclyffe to Lady Ann Asshawe in May 1572. Once the hub of the Hall, the kitchen is now alive with the sights, soun...

‘Moat’ by John Kennedy of Landlab was completed in May 2011. This imaginative commission highlights the location of the Hall’s original moat. The concept for the moat extends the idea of pretending that the moat is real and full of water. He also has another exhibit here called ‘Causeway Edge’. The second public art commission ‘Timeline’ was developed by Lesley Fallais. Ordsall Hall is a Grade ...

The gardens at Ordsall Hall have been designed to showcase garden elements popular throughout history and likely to have featured in the Hall’s history at some point in time. The gardens feature a late Tudor style knot garden; a traditional 20th century allotment; Herb Garden with medieval and Tudor herbs alongside those grown today; ornamental borders containing flowers cherished by the Tudors...
The Star Chamber at Ordsall Hall

Built by Sir John Radclyffe in the 1360s, the Star Chamber is in the oldest wing of the Hall. Today, the room is set as the ‘man’s world’ where Radclyffe Lords would have conducted their business, written letter, held meetings, heard small court petitions and kept his armour.
