Follow-up question, P25 has TCP/IP if I'm not mistaken. This is UDP/IP only, no TCP? No way of getting TCP?
The protocol is only UDP. No other transport is available.
@@RockyMountainHamRadio Thank you for the information. Could you also do an in-depth review of P25 IP Packet Data?
@@vladimirzivadinovic3941 Vladimir, our organization doesn't work on P25, our network is only Motorola DMR so there's nobody in our ranks that has experience on P25 data. If someone comes forward, we will certainly do it!
Thanks so much for this excellent presentation. I have the same power supply (minus the meters, sadly) and I just snapped off one of the screws trying to tighten down the annoying screw terminals. This will definitely be my next little project. 73 de GM7OMZ
Can you test Hytara for this, and Hytera-Motorola compatibility?
Hytera is not compatible with Motorola DMR data. Motorola's protocol is proprietary.
@@RockyMountainHamRadio thanks! I was wondering about this. I hoped both were using a standard PDP over IP accordong to ETSI TS 102 361-3.
I suggest you get John Portune's book on slot antennas and watch his numerous YT presentations. He answers many of the questions you have.
Great presentation. Thank you for all your time and efforts helped me a lot 73
Glad it helped!
This is excellent! Great presenter, great style!
Glad you liked it!
Use D-RATS as your example to make a DMR program. D-STAR has had this for many years now.
There is very little on line regarding slot antennas for a supposed increased interest among hams. I want and need to know a lot more, but there are only a couple individuals making UA-cam videos about them. If you have anything to share don’t hide it. 73 Tom KC3QAC
Has there been any more work with this? Seems like it's been a little quiet, curious how much progress you've made.
We haven't heard any updates back from Dan yet.
Great work, where can i download the presentation?
All of our presentations are in: www.rmham.org/course-syllabus/ look under Feb 13, 2021.
How is the Waterdog repeater connect to the RHM Net? Steve KI0KY
It is connected via a microwave into Montrose and rides fiber back to the main site. We will not finish the microwave out there for a while.
An awesome follow up video would be one that demonstrates in detail how to setup a Motorola Online Account and obtain a legitimate copy of the CPS software. The complexity of the process is a bit convoluted.
we are ready :)
Node Red to tie it all together.....
Our local ambulance runs on NXDN 4800Kbps and sounds absolutely perfect. I'll bet one could get away with just half that bandwidth and still be acceptable.
The ICS-201 is used for the initial response before the IAPs are prepared for follow on operational periods. The 201 is not usually part of the IAP. It would be a good preliminary notice for announcing planned events.
nice video learned alot
I enjoyed viewing this session. One piece of ham test equipment not mentioned is an RF signal generator. The tinySA not only has that function but has AM, FM-N & FM-W. Much improved over the Eico and Heathkit RF generators I have used in the past. I’m not familiar with the Mini 1300, however the screenshot in your YT shows it has an RF signal generator function as well. I would like to know if it’s as good as the tinySA in that respect.
Great Explanation of BPQ, Thanks!
The hookup between hardware modems and softmodems has been something that has been bothering me for quite some time. Thanks for the clarification! KL1V
Great project! Well done!!

This is a awesome learning tool I’m new to dmr but this was fantastic
Excellent video, I remember when this happened. I have a 6 site simulcast system and remember seeing this 1970 issue. At first I thought it was a GPS problem with the GPS units I was using. I remember getting burned in the public safety space buy the GPS leap second issue a few years ago on older GPS units which caused an issue with several public safety simulcast systems. Thank you for the fix Dave, it saved our bacon!
Just found this page after all these years LOL. good seeing you guys this weekend as always top-notch! de KA4EPS
Thank you very informative.
You are welcome!

Good evening- great job-all the best!
Thanks for sharing your deep domain knowledge based expertise on wireless radio technology.
Glad it was helpful!
Great work man, I’ve been looking into lora and hoping someone would develop it into some type of voip system. This could become invaluable in an emergency. I’m from new Orleans and work in emergency services, in my lifetime we have had 2 instances of a total communications blackout after a disaster.
Love the overview and info, great info is always great to see. Would love more on this radio really tempted to get another one "D710 Radio" Agree programing is easier with the computer but good to know how too manually as well.
whats the range in distance? for just 2 devices say..
5 miles
does it need license?
LORA is license-free.
What sort of range are you able to get with omni's? I guess first with a standard "rubber ducky" antenna and then maybe with a higher gain colinear antenna? Have you tried other directional antennas such as a Yagi or Moxon to see what sort of range can be had?
We've tested them out to 5 miles.
Read about this in QST. Great work!
fantastic job my friends 73 from kb2uew
Was great working you guys on 20m USB and CW! 73, AJ2J

Such a beautiful setup but why did you choose to setup near a distribution power line (commercial power?) which is usually a noise generator.
It would be nice if there wasn't a power line, but it's very quiet and there is no load on this spur. We're lucky on that!
Many of the slot antenna on Internet and even QST are NOT slot antennas. People call them slot antennas, but they are not even remotely close to being a slot antenna. Some are nothing but bent up folded dipoles, they bear no resemblance to a slot, but somehow QST and others give these non-slots a pass. A slot antenna works, as you say, by exciting a sheet of current in a very large metal plane, such as a waveguide or an aircraft fuselage. If we do not have the large sheet or backplane, we do not have a slot. To be a slot antenna...it has to have a large sheet of current.
Funny I was thinking of a Slot antenna for 11m CB on truck just trying to get up to speed on antenna theory of slot just getting in to radios though I would start with CB. Was wondering if one were to take a closed loop of wire around a windshield in the gap around the glass as feed point and ground to body would that be like a slot antenna or a loop antenna? And would it even be feasible at 27MHz
Antenna theory won’t help you much with Slot theory. They seem to contradict in most cases.
How just frikken awsome is that...? 73's de Uncle Günter

OOH! My head hurts. Good info but how they recorded this video, puts me in seizures! Next time just put up a video camera and have it record. Next topic should be how not to record a video.
It's quite hard to do a presentation like this with 1 camera. It's live, and done on Zoom so there needs to be multiple cameras to show the whole story. We've tracked the video/audio issues down to a slow PC and have purchased a brand new fast computer to allow us to produce this live with no video or audio issues. We apologize for the bad video and promise to do better.
terrific video 73 from kb2uew
I did the whole 1.4 hours on this. Excellent, especially if you have the specific radio.
