Can You Shoot with Cinestill 800T in Daylight?
Tried out the Cinestill 800T for a portrait and fashion shoot during the daylight. Being Tungsten balances, I knew I was going to get a cooler white balance result and I wanted to see if mixing in the warm, afternoon light would help balance out the skin stones for a more pleasing end result. Thoroughly enjoy shooting with film in different environments for purely creative experimenting sake. Learned a lot from this and keen to shoot again with this beautiful film stock from Cinestill soon.

NEW Kodak Gold 120 Pushed to 400 and Compared with Portra 400
Переглядів 5 тис.2 роки тому
Had one roll of Kodak Gold 200 in 120 left and one roll of Portraits 400. Thought it'd be a fun experiment to push the Gold to 400 and compare it with the Portra. Given Gold's characteristics, pushing it actually took some of it away and brought back to more neutral and in line with what you might get from the Portraits 400. It's not the same, but it definitely surprised me how well the Gold 20...
How Does Kodak Portra 400 Look on an Overcast Day?
Переглядів 8 тис.2 роки тому
A common piece of advice for shooting on film is to shoot with as much light that is available. I've been a Portra 400 shooter for the longest time, just like most people who shoot on film regularly but I've never truly tested what my images would look like when I shot with it on an overcast day with plenty of soft light around, and on a medium format system. Can the NEW Kodak Gold in 120 be used professionally?
Переглядів 10 тис.2 роки тому
First time shooting with Kodak Gold in the 120 format. I was curious to see how it would handle a variety of mixed lighting situations and how the skin tones would turn out with its unique colour shift/saturation characteristics that Gold is known for. I also wanted to see if it could handle being used in a professional capacity and whether the quality in the 120 format would hold up against th...

      an 85b filter balances the coolness of the film so they don't come out blueish when shooting in daylight but would not get rid of the halation

    Loove this look, great content man. Could you let me know what you exposed for (shadows)? Did you overexpose a stop or push/pull? Just bought a couple rolls of 800t and wanted to try daylight shooting! Keep up the great content!

    • @joshkaie
      @joshkaie 2 роки тому

      Thanks man. I rated it at 400 speed and I tried to metered for general. I didn’t really meter either side cause I was shooting in soft light most of the time so the dynamic range wasn’t big. So I generally metered for the whole scene. Depending on how much halation you’re wanting in the photos, I recommend metering for somewhere in between shadows and highlights can try 1 stop over exposure and see how you go. That’s usually my go to play for film I haven’t used before. Hope that helps!! Enjoy!

    Shooting cinestill 800T towards dusk really helped balance it out, but I do really like the cooler tones. It helps set the images apart from typical pastel-leaning portraits.

    • @joshkaie
      @joshkaie 2 роки тому

      Yeah, for sure! I was happier with the results towards to end. Still think it was good overall, guess I need to keep challenging myself with different aesthetics rather than the go-to warm and pastel tones, which this shoot helped me with and I've learned a lot from it. Thanks for watching and commenting, appreciate your input!

      Glad you love the results man! Yeah likewise, had only shot on the 50D prior to this shoot. Definitely give it a go, it’s a fun one to experiment with - just gotta try and minimize halation where possible IMO cause otherwise it becomes a bit too much in every photo.

  • @inkaststudio

    I thought the cool tones lent well to the whites in the shot. Art is subjective I guess lol

    • @joshkaie
      @joshkaie 2 роки тому

      Yeah totally. I guess I'm more coming from a portraiture point of view where I'm used to getting the best skin tone in the final results. I think it's not bad at all, it was refreshing to work with cooler tones. But great to hear another opinion on it - maybe something I need to adjust to cause I'm always working with natural light so leaning towards warmer light and warm tones and that might be my bias. The next video I'm recording where I use a warming filler will definitely show a big difference and I guess then we can compare 😝

    • @inkaststudio
      @inkaststudio 2 роки тому

      @@joshkaie I hear that. The warm tones do wonders for portraits especially when the focus is skin tones. I'm curious to see what the difference will be once you had a warming filter. Great chatting with you!

      Love it! Thanks for your comment bro. It's a fun film to use. I think in the 120 formats it does give you a lot more than the 35mm in terms of processing and latitude. I've been trying it in lots of different settings and have been pushing it a fair bit and pretty happy with the results.

    • @joshkaie
      @joshkaie 2 роки тому

      Thanks man. Haha I use a light meter on my iPhone. It’s relatively accurate and I just meter it so I’m 1 stop overexposed. So for the Gold I metered for 100 box speed.
