Is anyone else wondering why, after HUNDREDS of years, having had open flame lighting in these buildings for 300+ years and shotty electrical for the first 50-100 years after being electrified, all the while having work done by hundreds or thousands of different contractors, all of the sudden these ICONS of European and human history are burning down? Is no one asking the why's? It just seems a little too convenient. In a time of massive immigrant movement and immigrant unrest, these symbols of Western greatness are being destroyed. Lots of rodeo cowboys frequent the area. Oakdale sets on the edge of the valley and at the base of the Sierra foothills. Nice ranchette properties in the surrounding area and a man made reservoir with camping. Knights ferry is a good place to hang out and swim in the river. Down Orange Blossom Road.

We had naked rafters in our back yard because we had steps 😮. Lol

I lived on Del Rio Circle. We loved watching them ride up and down the river. My little boy would run out whenever he heard them. Miss living there. It's loud living in Modesto lol

Its like stepping right back in time to that day! This is superb quality for color movie film...the town still looks rather quaint. Modernish, yet a quaintness to it still. My grandfather was living in San Diego right around the time this was filmed, 1941-42. Loved it out there, but he decided to return to New England after the war. But he said Cali was just wonderful at that time... and cheap to live.
