I hope you are doing well! I just wanted to thank you for your three years back sermon on the Parable of the Two Sons. Your message was very encouraging, and I loved how you challenged us to live out our faith through actions. You have a real passion for helping us grow in the Lord, and it shows in your preaching. As I was thinking about the sermon, I wanted to share a few thoughts. There are some parts of the parable that might need a little more explanation to help everyone understand it better. I believe this will make the message even clearer for the congregation. In Matthew 21:28-32, Jesus is mainly talking to the religious leaders of Israel. He uses the story of the two sons to point out their hypocrisy and their failure to truly repent. The first son represents people who initially reject God (like the tax collectors and sinners) but later repent and obey Him. The second son represents those who say they will obey but don’t, like the religious leaders who outwardly look good but reject God’s message. I noticed in your sermon that the message was applied to all believers, encouraging us to be like the first son who repented. While that’s a good point, it’s important to remember that Jesus was mainly talking to the religious leaders of His time. The main point of the parable was about how the religious leaders were hypocrites. They looked righteous but didn’t truly obey God. Jesus was showing that genuine repentance is what matters, not just saying the right things. So, while it’s helpful to encourage people to live out their faith, it’s also important to understand that this story was first about religious leaders and their failure to repent. The parable shows how those considered sinners by society (like tax collectors) would enter God’s Kingdom before the self-righteous leaders. This is a powerful message about God’s grace and the importance of true repentance. I think if we focus on this context, it will help the congregation understand the true message of the parable.
