Once considerer the recorder player of the XX century, Frans Brüggen left a big legacy and his unquestionable footprint in the development of Early music; particularly in the recorder; a footprint that hunted him for decades till his last days.
Although stopped early in his life with the recorder to become a conductor and founder together with Lucy van Dael their revolutionary orchestra; The Orchestra of the Eighteen Century. Bruggen is still remembered as an influential recorder player.

I remember I used to copy Bruggen's gestures and movements of the hands when doing vibratto and my teachers were not very happy about it hahaha
I think this concerto sounds better on an alto, as played here, than on a sopranino, which I suppose is technically correct, and which is how you always hear it these days. I wonder if Vivaldi would have objected?
I doubt it. After all, it sounds good. We really are not certain exactly what instrument Vivaldi had in mind anyway. There is some evidence he actually a soprano recorder in mind.
@@warrencohen8246 I believe he wanted it to be played with the sopranino (in f). Though on the original manuscript he wrote himself that if not possible due to the lack of the sopranino recorder, the concerto could be transposed a fourth lower to be played with a soprano c recorder

It is said that Gesti was composed 1966, so maybe the documentary was produced later than 1964. Or is there anything that I don't recognize? Thank you for sharing. English subtitles are wonderful!

I see a message with the date 1964. Strange indeed: by that date Leonhardt had for a few years been playing and recording on his Flemish-type instrument.
