Pursing peace, living simply, and stewarding our land well.
How a small homestead fits our needs | We went against homestead culture | Scaling back vs expanding
Hello and welcome to Johnson Branch Farm.
Our homesteading journey started in 2012 after the birth of our first child. I wanted to feed our family nutrient dense, high quality food. We quickly realized sourcing organically grown and pasture raised meat was challenging and not cost effective. We started a garden and began raising our own chickens and turkeys.
In 2017 we answered the call to leave our home in Florida and move to the mountains of North Georgia. In 2019 the Lord blessed us and we purchased on our 36 acres (which wasn’t for sale, you can watch that video here-ua-cam.com/video/85_FVfwFfrs/v-deo.html). We have been working hard to clear the land, remodel our mobile home and grow/ raise as much food as we can.
We now have a large garden, orchard, chickens and Nigerian dwarf dairy goats.
This is a beautiful life we have been given. I pray you find hope, encouragement and inspiration from our channel. We are so glad you are here!

You have a beautiful family. Relaxing to see the baby looking at the rain. GOD bless you and family
The quilt lovely and congrats to your son on the deer. 🥰❤️ Would you consider doing a home tour?
Great and relaxing video. I’m in Louisiana. What state are you in
Thank you! We are in the mountains of north Georgia.
Great job, enjoy seeing other you tùbers offgrid adventures!
Thank you! I’m glad you are here
Love it! Subscribed
Thanks for subscribing! I am so glad you are enjoying the journey!
I think you were a friend of my daughters growing up here in Florida.
That’s awesome! I hope everyone is doing well!
I love hearing the hens chatting to each other. ❤️
Nothing like a little baking on a rainy day.
That was awesome.
Thank you!
Would love to see how you have the little house organized. Are the kids in lofts? This is something I have always dreamed of… and one day hubby and I will be on more land and build that tiny home.
Sure I can do a tour. Yes the kids are in the lofts. The boys have the bigger loft and my daughter has the smaller one. They are actually pretty roomy! We added a bedroom to it and I would highly recommend that!
Hello johnson ❤family eric
Hello!
This was such a peaceful and relaxing video. I know there was a lot of energy getting the projects done but you did a beautiful job editing them. Have a blessed week.
I’m glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching! God bless! 💜
Hey Y’all! I miss your pretty trailer but you’ve really put it in gear at the new location. Please get electric fencing to keep wild animals away!❤️
That is a special place for sure! Not to worry! We have more work to do 🥰
Nice sharing, my friend
Hello Johnson family happy holidon❤
N FL freezes last resort days. Brassicas did ok.
Great work! I’m just wondering about the water fall off the porch roof. 😅 I’m going to be building one of these for mine
How is Noah liking the food?
I should have added that to the video. He is not about it. He likes to play in it.
I got so excited at the mention of a group quilt. I'm a fiber artist and one of my favorite things is to teach others. Watching those children learn a new skill sounds like such a joy-filled time to me. In the past, I've taught several elementary school art classes. I've taken my spinning wheel in and even taught them to spin their own yarn. It's been a while since I've taught quilting and sewing, but I have fond memories of teaching those skills when we were in ministry. I also have my own childhood memories of gathering around a quilt frame with women of all ages working on a quilt by hand. Anywho....yep this vlog tugged at my heart strings in all the right ways. I'm so glad you were able to gift them with instruction of a hand craft. I believe its so important to keep these skills alive. (Knitting is another fun one to teach for me.)
I love it! I have crocheted since I was a small child. I hope to one day spin my own fibers from animals on our farm. Quilting was new to me and I am in love. I hope to one day be able to make a quilt of our own. Doing it with a baby was pretty challenging. I’m glad you enjoyed it. Who knows we may be able to gather one day and share our skills and handmade items 💜
I've only ever had bear sausage ( ground like breakfast sausage) and it was so good! My husband hasn't gone bear hunting yet but I appreciate all the tips!
I’m curious- I’m a nurse here too…would you need protection (gloves) when preparing raw bear meat? I’ve never prepared or eaten it- I’ve been afraid of it. I think it’s good to learn how.
When my husband cleans a bear he always wears gloves. He leaves all of the organs inside the cavity so we do not risk contamination. When I am cooking it I don’t wear gloves. I wash with hot soapy water and I wipe everything down with bleach wipes. It made me very nervous as first but we have grown use it and know what to do. I found this article very interesting. wyomingwildlife.org/bear-hunting-and-a-case-for-packing-bear-meat/
Could you share some deer meat recipes? I have a freezer full of deer this year.
Absolutely!
Thanks for the dough recipe Take care
I love Dr Pepper too! Try putting cherries (frozen, dried or juice) and almond flavoring in for your second ferment with the kombucha, tastes a lot like Dr Pepper!
I can not wait to try this!
Wise words! "You really don't need a lot. Start small. Focus on what your family likes and eats. Think about your health and what you can replace."
Both of you are such diligent and faithful workers. Lovely to see your teamwork; So glad you've been able to finish your lovely cottage.
Loved your shirt ❤ Many blessings to you and your family 😊
Thank you and you as well 💜
Awesome!!
I thought y'all had a dairy cow! We're neighbors in the mountains of North Al. Hoping for snow here❄
We did! I loved her dearly and miss her so much! A dairy cow wasn’t a right fit for this season and our property. I hope you get some snow!
Hello Johnson family ❤God bless
Those are some of the best memories in life-working together with family and friends to get necessary things done 🥰
Amen. We love our deer meat. No grocery store ground meat or res meat. Precious family 🙏
Thank you! ☺️
What a wonderful project for hands on learning.
It was! They get to see the finished product today!
Getting things wrapped up in my house for the night and catching up on a few of your videos I'd missed!
We do pretty much the exact same with our deer! I had a similar experience with my kombucha the first time I used the bottles like that! What a mess!
It works so well! I need to feed my kombucha so hopefully it doesn’t explode to!
I was excited to see day 2 up!
Love your videos.
These daily vlogmas posts are so wonderful. You didn't have to figure out content to record because daily living by itself is amazing and sharing that with us is a blessing. Thank you for blessing me. ❤❤
Thank you for that encouragement! I will keep them coming!
Always a blessing to see you guys
Hello johnson eric
You are getting a great workout carrying that sweet baby everywhere! Love the teamwork!!
I should have watched this one first! Now I know how you keep the goats in (most of the time) - electrical fencing! It did not look that way on the other video when you so casually stepped over it! I will take boring over drama ANY day of the week - just spent a very quiet afternoon cleaning up and putting my garden to rest for the winter - it was heavenly!
Thanks for the cracker recipe - I love new things I can make with sourdough starter or discard. I am amazed at the lovely "new" homestead you and your family have created since moving to a different location on the property. Question - how are those goats not climbing the fence and getting out? I've always heard they are difficult to keep and I had a hard time years ago in South Georgia keeping them fenced in - even with taller, sturdier fence.
Love you!! ❤
Love you 🥰
Looking forward to your fermented pepper hot sauce recipe I'm the future😀
Next time put the text in the video higher so its not blocked. Good video though, really helpful trick!
That is a really helpful tip! Thank you!
Beautiful greenhouse!!! Another great video!
Thanks so much!
Thank you 😊 I need to plant mine now!
