Took a foreigner to shoot such a wonderful video with complete coverage of our older days, brings back all the fond memories of our growing up days, what a better time and better place then! Thanks Hans abd Yong👍🙏🙏🙏!
@jcdhfilms I am a filmmaker and looking for footage of this era for a documentary. Please do contact me if you interested. Thank you.
Love this , Ahh those days are memorable beautiful , simple, fun yet harmonious racially SG. Now no more history to look back just picture and memorable , nothing remind of what SINGAPORE is all about now, unfortunately .Thank you so much for sharing , MAJULAH SINGAPURA! indeed!!
Woooow,.. born and bred in spore,.... i thank you for uploading this video,....now great memories comes rushing in.
I was away from 1982 to 1992... at least I get to see what I'd missed
😮🙏 OMG! 1983 Singapore! That's almost 41 years ago from 2024! I was 20 years then ... Brought back so much memories ... Even the SMRT MRT had not in service yet until 1988?! Life before the internet , pagers & smartphones! A more people oriented World back then , workplaces were more Meritocracy or based on Experience & Dedication back then as compared to today's easily fooled or altered KPI system! 😊🙏 Thank You So Much for sharing these 1980s Singapore footages ... Brought back so much flashes & glimpses of that era ... Many of that era Old Uncles & Old Aunties had left us over the decades ... 🙏🌷🌿🍎🍊🌏✌💜🕊🇸🇬🇲🇾
Thank you for sharing the wonderful memories of Singapore. I studied at the Nanyang campus, Chinese Language and Research Centre of NUS in 1981-82. Your video is like a travel in time; it brings back a lot of good memories of my time in Singapore.
Never thought I'll see old Punggol again. Whoever you are , thank you for these priceless videos. The problem with Singapore is the constant change in enviroment. There is nothing for us to hook on to, all the places that were grew up in no longer exits. Playground torn down, buildings demolished and rebuilt, iconice landmarks moved or permanently destroyed to make way for expressways, the list goes on. We can only rely on such videos to bring us to a time when life was simple. Yes progress is essential but there is always the trade off. Such is life...
This was even before MRT came to service.. nice.. Love the old better times.
I grew up in Nantah cos my dad was a lecturer there. There was a sizeable community and most of the kids went to Pei Hwa in Bukit Timah. Circa 1983 many teaching staff were co-opted into NUS and so we moved out of the Nantah lodgings. I think the corner unit shown at 1:23 used to be where I stayed. The address if I remember correctly was 54 Nanyang Crescent. Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed reminiscing.
DIVINE MOTHER I love My SIngapore ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you for your contribution to Singapore's history during 1983-1986. It brought back a lot of memories for me during National (military) service to university days. Among others, the public buses and taxis have changed since the decades. Great that you've recorded the old retail shops and related way of life of that era; some / most buildings which have since been demolished, due to Singapore's pace of urban renewal and redevelopment. Well done!
what language is the first man speaking ?
Dutch
Just imagine, in 40 years' time people will be watching clips of today's 2020s Singapore, probably in 5D augmented reality through their Neuralink implants.
In 1985 i was 13 yrs old now im 52 yrs old i really miss the old singpore food bus taxi house school shoping centre n playground wedding 😍🥰🤩👏👏👏👏 etc etc etc .....everything change now 2024 singpore🇸🇬🇸🇬🇸🇬 become a wonderful n best l🇸🇬🇸🇬🇸🇬 country in the world 🌍🌍 become 💪💪💪💪stronger n stronger 🩶🧡🩷❤️💜🩵💙💚💛 u 🇸🇬🇸🇬🇸🇬🇸🇬🇸🇬
The city of Singapore is now quite busy with vehicles going back and forth. In contrast to the 80s, the number of vehicle volumes was still small
Omg thank u sir for filming this precious gem..I MISS OLD SINGAPORE
Wow. I can’t imagine living in the olden days. I’m born in 1996
Omg Zamzam legend! 🤤
I always love 70s and 80s vibes even though I was born in the 90s. Thank you for bringing us back to those beautiful times.
Oh my goodness. awesome memories
1985 I’m K1 🤣
Looks very similar to my hometown Ipoh when I was a kid
thank you so much for sharing this - it is a reminder that life can be simpler and happier, even with "less"
I was 5 in 1985. Miss the old Singapore. Life is more simpler
Singapore...................before it was overrun by 3rd world FTs brought in by treasonous PAP................
I missed those days whereby everyone was interacting with each other and not just busy scrolling mobile phones. Ironically that’s how I came across this wonderful video. Brought back so much fond memories. I will be turning 50 soon and it marvels me how time passes us so quickly and I have forgotten so many iconic landmarks, roads and buildings. Thank you very much for this amazing video.
cashin house
It looks like Malaysia in present day
I was still a baby!
I was -2 years old in 85.
In 1985 i was 61. My 1st grandson was born
I was 6yrs old in 1983. Some of the highlights of my early 1980s, learnt cycling at Katong park, catch mudskippers during high tides in roadside drains, kill leeches in neighbour's pond, chasing or be chased by dogs on our bicycles, watching E.T for the first time on a neighbour's projector with half the neighbourhood clustered in the living room and the front porch. Staying in a rented bungalow with my grandparents, my family with 3 uncles and their own families all under one roof. Unfortunately, that kind of familial relationships can never be achieved with our rapid modernization. We all need a time machine. 😄
Thanks for sharing this... I was 9 years old (1985) .. reali brought back some bittersweet memories .. great to see all those places.. .
i love 70-90s era. things were so much more simpler than and simple life. Now .....
Thanks to google and youtube and technology we are able to keep all these footage permanently.😂😅...
Great conservation efforts Singapore! Sorry I mean good preservation of yesteryear Singapore videos in archives! My Gen Alpha daughter could hardly figure out any familiar scene here 😅
is your wife from Singapore?
Yes.
@@jcdhfilms5751 Please visit Singapore again. Would be nice to see a before and after video of the same areas of singapore that you recorded (:
Such incredibly rare footage of Ye Olde Singapore! Very few had access to video cameras back then so this is a joy to behold. Love all the beautiful old cars...
The classical Chinese music is really inappropriate. We r a multiracial multicultural society.
And modern too😂 This isnt China
I think it’s because of the copyright music strikes. Even if it’s royalty free, suddenly another rap artist will sample and copyright the music and strikes off this video.
Singapore was such a wonderful place then!
The good old days… I would have loved to see Singapore in the 80’s As a foreigner Singapore has been my home for years now… call me crazy but I feel happier here that in my own country of birth. Thanks for sharing this video it’s a glimpse of a time gone by. I wonder where are the people in this video and what became of them.
Driving was much safer back then because drivers were not busy looking at their GPS and SmartPhones.
Those days without smartphones, now many are poking phones on the streets😂
I am born in 1984 lol
Bila tengok balik kenangan2 lama ni boleh menangis la weyh. Pernah lalu zaman tu bila difikir balik sekarang aku sanggup nak balik ke zaman tu tapi apakan daya memang tak boleh....😭😭😭😭
I would give anything to go back to a pre foreigner Singapore before the mid late 2000s.....when foreigners made up 8 percent of the population and not 43 percent.
Thanks for sharing, it brought back many memories.
Good!!!
LOL those buses without air-con
if it rains passengers have to close the windows then very stuffy😂
@@Tony.L9793 yes - and most of the time, some windows are not able to close fully. Good luck when you're sitting near the window.
@@jaspernotting those days old buses did have lots of cockroaches running around too😂
@@Tony.L9793 - "wonderful" memories, guess we are more "tolerant" and co-exist better those days
