I saw Garanca at the New York Met some years ago and she was really and absolutely disappointing. Good looks, a relative good actress, she was barely audible. I have seen her again and again in many videos and in a horrid production of Carmen, filmen on a fake Cuba, with nothing to do with the story and surtitles in Lituanian, something incredible! Anyway, thanks for uploading this video.
Esta misma puesta en escena estoy viendo ahora en el Teatro Colón en Buenos Aires, pero no con Elina Garança. La verdad, no es la mejor puesta en escena de Carmen.

Понятия не имею. Хотя сейчас это для многих артистов не имеет значение. Большинству нравятся подобные эксперименты. К сожалению. Голоса прекрасны, а вот режиссура здесь полный кошмар

The stage and costume music don't match at all. Since they had so famous singers, they must have had the budget. No one would want to listen to Mozart in a basement.

If you're a fan of Elina READ HER BOOK! It is deeply personal and beautiful. I couldn't put it down and I didn't want it to end! It's in German but you can use Google image translate to read it in whatever language you want. That's what I did to translate it into English.

Please add the cast and conductor in the description. Yes, Garanca is very good, but I want to know who is the tenor, and all the rest. It's not fair to him, since he did such a fine job.

When they mention things completely different than what you see. We hear "take your sword", we hear about gypsies dancing and playing instruments, we hear about her accompanying her dance herself, we hear about a flower that is faded and dry (but in reality it's a fake one). And so on and so forth. Today's productions want to force concepts completely different than what is in the original work thinking that inserting modern settings/costumes/behaviours and as much obvious sex as possible makes it "original" and "fresh". And that what is written/sung doesn't count, it can be disregarded. But these costumes and behaviours clash with the language (I don't mean the fact that it's French, but the light and elegant style of the language), and especially with the music, that remains 19th century music. These characters, the way you show them, wouldn't express themselves with such a style and in such music. Write your own contemporary piece inspired from the same story, and it would probably work brilliantly. One example from many of the "dissonance". The smugglers being dangerous gangsters putting a knife on Carmen's throat and threatening to beat her up with a belt. Do the people who thought of this listen to the music beforehand or are they maybe deaf? The music is very light-hearted here, almost like an operetta, or as the background music of Looney Tunes. It totally clashes with the abject darkness we see.
