What did you decide to use instead of 100 Easy Lessons?
@@beachgurl788 we use All about Reading level 1! I have a video on that as well.
How is AAR going??? Is it enough in its own?
@@beachgurl788 it is a MUCH better fit for us for so many reasons. We do use explode the code as well but that’s just because my son likes it and it helps solidify concepts without it feeling like reading.
Is this secular?
@@TheJonesClan6182011 yes it is! However, please also keep in mind that when discussing history religion will come up. But it doesn’t say Christianity is the “correct” or “right” religion. Just in why people came to America.

Our reading journey is similar. We are struggling (soon to be second grader) and are finally trying All About Reading but I got level 2 because I figured we would get through Teach Your Child to Read before we started and I’m just not sure if she can take much more of that book. Are you familiar with explode the code? If so, do you think we could do explode the code to master first grade reading skills before starting all about reading?
@@ashleymurphy4813 I actually just filmed a video (coming out in 2 weeks) about Teach your child to read. It didn’t work well for us. I wish we would have just started with AAR (I have a review on level one for that as well). I LOVE Explode the Code. I talk about it in our June wrap up, but it goes SO WELL with AAR. You might, since you’ve got an older kiddo, be able to do the first few books to “take a break” and build more confidence with reading and then just into level 2!

By the end of Kindergarten my daughter is at an almost 2nd grade reading level, shes ahead in all subjects but sooo behind in writing. She hates writing sadly, she does draw stick people and can trace letters or form a few on her own and write her name reluctantly. I am so proud of her for being so ahead in everything else but afraid that writing is going to hold her back going into 1st grade. I have handwriting without tears but she gets anxious when its time to write. Any advice mommas? Weve tried magic groove books, markers, hand play, etc. This is more behavioral / anxiety related. Also she is aggravated when she tries and its not perfect or coming out neatly despite praise 😅
Oof that is hard mama. I would have her do spelling with letter tiles so she is doing spelling that way without the pressure of actually writing yet. For us, I don’t worry about writing at all. I don’t push it, if he wants to we do it. But I won’t be starting a more writing thing until he’s 7-8. I wouldn’t worry about her being behind, it’s all developmental. You can always try something else as well like Explode the Code. It has very light writing but it is more of a game. At the end of the day though - it’s normal! You don’t want her to develop a hatred for it. So I would pause and try again in a year! You’re doing great mama!
