Laco fliegers overpriced? Talking to the man who gave my Laco Aachen a ONE STAR review
Переглядів 15 тис.3 роки тому
I flip Laco fliegers and one of my ebay buyers gave the Laco Aachen he bought from me on a one star review. We talk about it and it turned into an interesting conversation about history, what we value in watches, and how he uses watches and even pocketwatches in his work as an emergency responder. So, after watching this, I have to ask, what was the expectation out of a $400 watch? Did he want a Chronometer rated peice for that point? Did he not bother to research what movement was in it before clicking the buy button? I understand not being happy with a purchase but this all sounds like a buyer not doing his end of the bargain in research. The watch is working in spec. You buy one and hope for the best case scenario. If you want all the stuff they guy is asking for, first do more research on what you are buying, and secondly spend a bit more.

Also for the same price point 2 years ago he could have chosen any number of Seiko watches that are just as legible for that price point if he wanted one of their movements.

Late to the party, but I have my Laco Augsburg regulated within a few seconds a day. It's not too difficult of a task and Laco generally does pretty well with them out of the factory. Also what drug that he's pushing by hand needs a particularly high degree of accuracy for the timing? Probably none. If you're off by a second in a 10 minute window, that's fine, and I doubt it was even close to that far off in reality. I think he was taking the stress of his job or buyer's remorse out on the product. When you need a watch as a paramedic, you go G-Shock. He ought to know.

Very, very good analysis of why the Seiko 5 is ideal at leading a new watch person into acquiring more and more watches. And personally, I very much enjoy having, as a rough example, eight different $500 watches vs. just one $4000 watch. And that exact Seiko that you show in this video was indeed the beginning of my current watch hobby.

This guy is a liar and fantasist. I don’t think he’s a real paramedic. I’m an RN with a critical care background of 30+ years. There is no drug regime that requires a health care professional to need a watch 😂 The guy clearly knows nothing about watches either.

I’ve just ordered an Airpilot Dual time on a ss bracelet for $127 plus shipping from Ashford delivered UK price £130 . Rrp is stated to be $1495 I don’t believe it for a minute bur here in the UK reputable watch shops are advertising them for around £870 . So what price is the correct one for a Glycine ? All I know is that I’m hoping that it thrills me when it arrives and that it is as good as a San Martin which would cost more from Ali Express .

Clickbait. Yes, Invicta is a cheap Made in China watch brand with shady marketing practices. On the other hand, Glycine continues to be a Swiss brand with quality Swiss-made watches and proprietary movements.

Obviously you just don't like the Glycine. I have a very wide variety to my collection. Everything from Timex automatics, Seiko automatics, Luminox automatics, Glycine automatics several Balls, and a Rolex Submariner. To be honest, the Glycine bronze Combat Sub is one of my favorites and probably gets the most wrist time.

When I bought my Glycine Airman, it was considered a fairly high end watch. Definitely the most expensive watch I had ever bought. I think I paid around $300 for it. I wonder what it would sell for today if adjusted for inflation. I bought it 48 years ago. It still looks great and still works just as good as did in the 1970s. Definitely not what I would call a lesser quality watch.

I also have the Laco and the escapement time homage and the escapement time, I hate to say, is the better watch. It loses about 5seconds a week! The Laco is 35seconds a day, I have a time grapher and have tried adjusting it and what a swine that is! The adjustment is so crude, I’m on my 3rd attempt very frustrating. Having said I was also not impressed with my beloved Oris big crown but it had a fine adjustment capability an I got it to within +/- 5seconds👍

More empty watch snob bait. If you knew >anything< about business you'd know that having Invicta's marketing and established distribution you'd know that will probably be a good thing for Glycine. Invicta bought Glycine to regain some of the prestige that Invicta once enjoyed. I own Glycine watches from both the pre and post Invicta eras and I see no difference in the quality of the watch. Did you ever think that having access to more resources might allow Glycine to innovate more? I'd rather see Glycine survive and prosper under Invicta's umbrella than watch it disappear. Count your blessings. If you don't like it then don't buy it. It's just that simple.

I bought a Combat Sub from Ashford recently. I have many watches from high end to low end. This Glycine watch is a pleasure to wear and keeps almost perfect time so far. The finishes are outstanding. Invicta has kept its hands off the quality and production end of Glycine from what I can see. I enjoyed your presentation but the undertone was much too negatively biased against Glycine, imo.

A lot of BS here. WTF are you on about with lume having to be white? And lume is SUPPOSED to glow. You seem to confuse your design preferences with quality. Also, any watch collector can assess value vs MSRP in terms of specifications, tactile quality and cost. How about we put a POSITIVE spin on this? Maybe look at it this way…”Wow, an ETA 2824-derived Swiss automatic movement, historic name brand, super luminova, sapphire crystal, bronze case, classic 200m dive watch for less than $500? What did Invicta ownership do to make this possible? Well done!”

I’m afraid few of his comments add up and are often contradictory . I suspect he had a petulant moment at spending 400 dollars when he could have done just a little research before hand . Most watch buyers seem to spend days and weeks mulling over their watch choices before buying , I know I do . I think he also didn’t expect his unfair review to get such a response from the seller and ask him in an incredibly polite and courteous way to justify and explain why he gave such a negative assessment . He bought the watch which seem a bit like him buying a horse and buggy and it’s vintage style but complaining its four legs isn’t a highly accurate movement to measure by . The lesson I suppose is , do your research and don’t expect others to take the blame for irrational purchases we later regret ?

I don’t think you are being fair. The lume for a dive watch is supposed to to be bright which the Glycine is keeping up with that task. I don’t like that is bronze, but the finish overall is great. My big gripe is in the movement. I would prefer a confirmed ETA rather than clones, Sellita clones, but overall, a great watch. I am enjoying mine tremendously. Not concerned about scratches or bumps like I would be with owning a Longines.Enjoy yours.

If he called a $400 dollar cheap watch is expensive and compare to a timex, then no need to waste time to explain to him, he won’t understand. I have a laco pro and I still think it is a cheap watch. Wait until he take a look at Patek or AP, then he will start to understand what is expensive. $400 can’t even get a golden concept Apple Watch shell. Oh.. I forget, he can’t even afford a Apple Watch. 😂if accuracy is the concern, then I recommend him to get a Rolex, or if he thinks it is too expensive and can’t afford, then go for a grand seiko spring drive.

The 42mm LACO B type is on my wrist right now. It’s not a 1 star watch. More like a 2 to 3 star honestly. The Miyota 8215 is a crap movement for this watch. It’s got a ghost date just setting and the rotar spin is really loud and bad.
