Be interesting to know what venues have shut in Manchester. Don't know anything about that. Otherwise maybe spotlighting some of the small existing venues. For example Gulliver's or The Castle Hotel opposite each other in Northern Quarter.

You certainly can’t judge an album by its album cover. The Pixies front man Frank Black ( Francis) album Teenager of the Year is a brilliant double album but the cover is sickly.

Kinda wish I'd checked out the exhibition when it was in my area now. Assumed it would be obvious sleeves but lots of things I've only ever seen online. The website Waxidermy used to feature a lot of this stuff, affectionately referred to as bonerz! Very much the world of private press. The Euro and Eastern Bloc appears to be very much represented as well. Regards Nigel

I will be looking out for her book next year. For me, collecting interesting, cool records was sort of like being in a band (when I was younger), cos having some hard to find, old records by some great, obscure psychedelic/garage band would spark the girls interest, on the Alternative and Retro scene that I wanted to be part of in the mid to late 80s... AND, of course, cos I really loved and wanted to listen to that kind of music (and see those kind of girls!).

Went there is 77/78 to buy a Damned album when I was 16/17 and Pete Burns absolutely refused to sell it to me. Walked out with Exodus by Marley.

I remember buying a Frank Zappa record, (cant remember the title), from Pete Burns at Probe at Enterprise House and was expecting a hard time, but he was very nice and handed me the record and took my money without comment. My first purchase from Probe was in the mid 70's which , as far as i can remember, was in a basement on Whitechapel.

Pedant Alert - She said Rubber Soul and you said about Klaus Voormans intricate design..which is of course not rubber soul ;-)
