Yer skeered (kidding) Our 2020 Honda Passport (rare???Black Copper Pearl) elite AWD with Toyo Open Country ATIII 255/60R18 wrapped on some black 18x8 HPD Ridgeline Rims. Stock height, no skid plates but she is more than capable, while being my wifes daily. This model has a (above average) 550w stereo system with heated & cooled front seats & a post possession OEM class III hitch & transmission cooler. I test drove that exact rig you have as it was sitting on the lot while I was getting my oil changed. I know the salesman, so we took a good test drive. It was a nice ride and absolutely a must buy if you needed something like that BUT we have a very capable 2 row rig that packs all of the Pilot in a smaller package, for us. She does Pismo sand dunes ☑, Big Sur forest roads ☑, gets 25mpg on hwy ☑, heavy ☑ From Lassen to Shasta to the Redwoods to O.C. I'd buy another. ✌🏼
I understand that the company put these limits in place to stop us from blowing up the transmission. It’s still annoying tho.
@@MrSamPhoenix it would have kept going but the temps were getting risky.
@@no-lodesigns yup, loading up the transmission on a hill will melt the internals. They don’t want you going to them telling them that the transmission was poorly designed. Install a super duty cooler and see how it goes.
@@MrSamPhoenix it only has an exchanger from the factory. No transmission fuild cooler.
@@no-lodesigns I guess that’s your new project lol.
@@MrSamPhoenix on the to do list before it's next trip to the mountains.
That's exactly how mine showed up last week to Canada. Very quick shipping. Hooks already installed, and it went well. Thanks. Cheers. 👍🇨🇦🤠
Order confirmation was very quick and same with shipping to Cali from PA. Just installed it tonight on Honda Pilot 2019 AWD EXL. The way everything bolts up is precise and simple. I got it with the security bolts and definitely recommend these. This shield is heavy duty and mounts very solid - does not make contact with top cat wrap shield so no vibration noise - very well designed. Thank you for creating it!
@@songshuJ Glad to hear it! Thank you.
Do you know which light bars work with this rack?
@@nihongopride the crossbars are 51.25" wide anything under that should work well.
How's it look mounted on your truck????
@@adaleparker1956 it's mounts to the front skid plate which is mounted the the front subframe.
While all the things you mention are valid this vehicle is not meant to be a 4x4 trail vehicle. It's a mom car with awd to get you around in bad weather or a very easy non paved road (trail). You want to do some serious off roading like you are talking about get a 4runner or a jeep. This thing is not that vehicle.
It's not a true 4x4, I'd agree with that. I also don't want to build a 4runner or another jeep. Had an YJ back in the day. If the factory is bolting stamped high strength steel skids to the bottom of this thing the rest of the systems should be able to keep up. Trying to split the difference.
@@no-lodesigns I understand, but you are asking this vehicle to do things it was never designed to do and then criticizing it for not being able to keep up. Not a fair review imho.
@@Angel283 It's a great vehicle and does a great job! I think I'm allowed to be a little critical if Honda in its press release is saying they ran Finns and things in moab during development.
I just got to the point in the video where you mentioned the scan gauge you are so thorough😊
Fantastic video, I just got a 2025 Honda trail sport looks identical to yours. How do you monitor the temperatures but did you use or is that a feature in the gauges?
I'm running a scan gauge 2. I leave it in the top left corner of the dash.
👍🇨🇦🤠
Just ordered tow hooks for my 2019 Ridgeline. I'll let you know how it goes. Cheers. 👍🇨🇦🤠
👀👀👀All those Pilot lift kits looking for a new home
Haha fresh batch. 1.5" front and rear.
What about in manual mode? Does it still autoshift or will it hold the rpm till you shift?
It still auto up shifts...
What size is your thule rooftop box?
This is the Motion XT XL. It was the biggest one they had at the time.
Also how is the wind noise with the box while driving on the highway?
@@capturedbysamuel it's pretty quiet but you know it's you there on the factory cross bars.
Thank you!! I want this! This is the best I have seen so far! If you have little interest it's because people are lazy like me and don't want to do it the right way... Just wait for it and we will buy
You would turn the heat on, to cool the engine... not the ac. lol
Agreed, trying to get any auxiliary fan to run at that point.
Hey Ian, what brand mounting bracket are you using to attach the awning to the rack?
Overland vehicle systems. The awning on the truck is the lager 180 awning and weights in at around 65-70lbs. They have a smaller one I'm running on the pilot that's about 45lbs.
Below
Nice work Ian 🙌🏻
Love it.
Awesome! Great work man. I look forward to the final product! Any estimate on the price as of now? Will it come in as all powder coated black or will it be bare Aluminium? I take it all of the hardware (minus some tools) will come as a kit?
Looks great buddy! Love it. Make one for the gen 1 now 😏
Beautiful. Quality and really well thought out. Do you know when you’re releasing the 2023+ Pilot version?
That's out and available for purchase! 👍
I can't see the engine temp on my 24 pilot trail sport. 😢
I agree! It's sad we can't see these things. I run a scan gauge 2 in my pilot to see trans and coolant temps.
@@no-lodesigns has your pilot ever given a supplemental restraint system warning Or an emissions system problem? I had both come up on my screen and I'm only at 5300 miles 😩
@@petegonzalez9304 I've never seen that one. We're at 20k now with any issues on our 2023.
@@no-lodesigns dang ok just tryna see if you had any info. Thanks 🙏
I test drove this trim even though my mind was made up to get a 4Runner but i liked the look of the Pilot a lot. It's a great suv, very roomy, drives nice. The Trailsport is more capable off-road than most people think.
Great vehicle! We're still enjoying ours!
@@no-lodesigns trying to convince my wife to get one! 😂
@@555atU try reverse phycology? Lol
@@no-lodesigns ha! I got some time to mold her into it.
You haven’t noticed any difference in the drive or altering the function of your axels? Curious as I really want to lift my 2024 touring but without compromising the original integrity of the vehicle
We're over 20k miles on our kit. The drive and function still feel stock. The touring is a little lower than the trailsport so I wouldn't be concerned with the axles.
Ian, Is this the same installation process and torque specs for the 2023+ Pilots?
Yeah same thing!
On my 24 Ridgeline I spent so much time attempting to reinstall the splash guard only to cut half of it away and then give up the lost cause. Plus having the splash guard off made it easier to install the skid plate next. Also on the 24 Ridgeline I did not have to cut out that hole in the bumper. It will fit underneath the bumper you might just have to trim a little off the very bottom edge that sticks out.
Good to know! Thanks for sharing.
is it possible to show the wiring process for the electrical part? im not an expert at installing additional wires on the car. Thank you.
That's hard to answer. Many lights come with a basic harness and single switch. They give a discription on how to hook it up. As far as running the physical wires just use some good practices. Keep them away from extreme heat and avoid pinching the wire while routing it will go a long way.
Highly considering the a new pilot for our family rig. Is the AWD system the same for other trims? I’m considering a touring or elite..would get a trailsport if they had a middle row bench
According to Honda the Trailsport is the only model with "trail torque logic". It actively trys to maintain forward movement using the abs and rear diff clutch pack. This trailsport pilot awd is better than the system offered in the pervious gene.
I order mine with security hardware and noticed theres 2 different set of washers. does it matter which washers I use? one washer is stainless steel and the other isnt stainless attached to the set of security hardware.
The washers on the bolts are the ones to use. The others can be used as spacers if need to move the plate away for the vehicle.
thank you @@no-lodesigns
Where did you get the rock sliders?
Traxda sells them and then a buddy and I lengthed them so they be the prefect length for the Ridgeline.
Thanks, excellent work!
I have one as well . Love it but the breaking does suck sometimes . Might just be me but it doesn’t break as smooth as it should .
I feel like I get an odd shift every now and again. Breaking has been consistent.
@@no-lodesigns what do you think about the power ? Sometimes I don’t think it picks up as quick as it should . I have a 2024
@@adnanisovic1218 it's no rocket ship but it moves a long okay for what it is. A few more hps wouldn't hurt it.
@@no-lodesigns picking your brain here lol . Would you lift yours ?hopefully my wife doesn’t look at this lol

Do you have an install video for the gas tank skidplate? (Am I missing it somewhere here?)
ua-cam.com/video/7OU4TlnxBUY/v-deo.htmlsi=kuxRjWGKnAvovWbD It's an oldy.
Thank you. Appreciate the follow up.
Softopper. Buy or no buy?
Buy! Mines about 5 years old and doing well. I replaced the rear window but that was my fault. You'll get a little water in the bed but very manageable.
Do you have a front skid for 2022 highlander xle?
We haven't made anything for the 2020 and newer Highlander.
Do these fit the gen 1 ?…
Yes it will. The 2gal cans will give you a hard time when you drop the tailgate. The 1.75 gal cans are fine no matter which way you use the tailgate. I've since the carrier modified to run the cans sideways as well.
@@no-lodesignsok cool !! So when they are oriented side ways I’d assume dropping the gate will clear but swinging the gate will touch ? Thanks again
@@patina_turner6791 should be fine in both cases with the packs sideways. I've only seen it done on the Gen2...
Love your point of view and impartial take on the spacer lift front. What's your take on the Flatout coilovers since they're the only non-spacer suspension option offered out there? Especially given the mixed reviews, JonDZ and Manny's aversion to them, and even CampingRandy having some issues with them as of late according to his latest UA-cam live? Is it worth to keep waiting for another option from those like Manny, or is it worth going with Flatout now?
I've never talked with anyone at flatout so I have no personal experience. The theme seems to be love them or hate them. They require people to be very involved with their suspension and I'd say most people aren't there and don't care. They just want a lift and for it to ride the same. So spacer lifts work very well. I'd say some of Manny and Jon's stuff may be to extreme for people as well. They're going for max flex on stock axles and trying to accommodate the full Overland builds at the same time. A spring and strut lift right off the shelf isn't here just yet.
@no-lodesigns Thank you very much for the reply! I'm looking for more travel for faster off-roading rather than rock climbing...with tempered expectations. I know I'm not going to get to Baja Ridgeline territory without the big bucks, but I'd be happy with 2-3 more inches of travel over stock. I'll keep researching.
Is that a Ridgeline Roof Rack Prototype I see?🧐 Is it made using 5052 Aluminium? I cannot seem to find a roof rack that is not made using steel, so if you pull it off with lighter and more corrosion resistant Aluminium while still being plenty strong, that is awesome! I look forward to the updates!!
The design is a mix. Mostly aluminum. 🤙
Jsport safari bumper would be a good addition to prevent that type of damage.
I don't think that would have saved me.
Your Ridgeline hit exactly where the safari bumper would have been.
@@sigman8680 I'll give you that. I don't run one because it's so low and it's not compatible with my tow hooks.
That Truck needs a Lift and it will go places👍😄
It's got almost 4inches of lift. 😭

This is the OEM setup that came with the pilot.
Useful information provided. Thank you.
It can get a little dry but I'm glad you found it helpful.
so don't lift the honda....
I'm thinking bout getting that lift kit. But I have a quick question: Where did u get that front emblem tint? I want to blackout my 23 Pilot Elite... that front emblem sticks out like a sore thumb
Travis something form the 4th Gen FB group. He runs Godspeed designs.
I have it on mine. I got it at Lamin-x
OEM is acoustic glass and after market is not. Had to get ws replaced before I had 1K miles on the RL thanks to a gravel truck. My insurance covered OEM because that is a specific Honda recommendation due to safety system. Honda states that calibration on non OEM is not guaranteed to be possible or accurate because of optical differences in the laminates.
According to safe light it is acoustic glass. All good points! I'm glad insurance covered you 1k in.
Great Video! I just ordered my Bundle, front skid plate and rear Differential skid plate for my 2020 Ridgeline.
