I am an avid railfan with a life long interest in railways and trains. It was the middle 1970s when I was little my dad used to take me up to watch trains. I have been hooked ever since. I watched lots of trains near my family cottage at Ingolf, Ontario, CP rail's mainline runs through Ingolf. I also liked CN action around my home in Winnipeg. As of 2022 I am 49 years old and still love watching trains. I especially like the CN out at Baynham, Manitoba on the Sprague sub as this is a very busy line.

VIA 693, the Hudson Bay, is on their way to Churchill, Manitoba. June 18th, 2024.
The Hudson Bay VIA 693 is leaving Winnipeg an hour and a half late. This train has a long journey ahead as they make their way up to the Tundra lands of Churchill and the shore of Hudson Bay.
The time was 1:35 p.m

The BNSF 1545 heads back to Midlands yard with a long cut of cars. Some of these cars are bound for CPKC Winnipeg yards. The time was 12:50 p.m. power was GP28-2 1545.

An eastbound CN intermodel cruises past Fort Rouge yards on his way to Transcona for a crew change. BNSF GP28-2 switches Fort Rouge yards for the cars that need to go to the Midlands yard. The time was 12:30 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. power was ES44AC 2929 and ES44AC 2892 on the head end.

The BNSF switch job comes from the midlands yard with a long cut of train cars. These cars will be picked up by the Emerson train L532 to go to the Emerson/Noyes border crossing to be exchanged with BNSF for more Canadian bound cars. The time was 12:20 p.m. power was GP28-2 1545.

An early start to the day as manifest 421 goes by. There were no other trains until 4 p.m. so I decided to go train watching along the highway. The eastbound CPKC potash train works up the grade into Ingolf on the north passing track and stopped for westbound intermodel 113 to go by. After 113 clears, the 620 pulls out of the north track and proceeded eastbound. This train is bound for Thunder Bay. 113 is from Montreal and is bound for Vancouver, a very long trip. This was the eastbound train I was expecting when manifest 421 went into the north passing track. The intermodel 119 that passed 421 went into the Telford siding for this train, which was a high priority 100 from Vancouver and is bound for Toronto. The time was 4:40 p.m. power was ES44AC 8929 on the head end, KCS ES44AC 4862 in the middle and KCS ES44AC 4686 on the tail end.

CPKC manifest 421 goes into the north passing track for what I thought was a meet with an eastbound. I then saw intermodel 119 coming and thought he was going behind 421. I thought what a "rip-off" when I saw 119 was on the south track and passing 421. I usually expect a meet with an eastbound. Turns out that 119 is a high priority train, and they didn't want 421, a manifest, in front of the 11...

It was a slow day for trains, and I went to work for a family friend to help out and make a little money on the side. It was almost 3 p.m. when the first eastbound intermodel shows up. I missed a westbound potash emties train at around 12 noon, but no biggie. The time was 2:55 p.m. power was ES44AC 8903 and AC44OOCW 8619 on the head end and ES44AC 9378 in the middle.

A storm was rolling in, and a flash of lightning 🌩 came out of nowhere. There was a heavy boom of thunder very close behind. I spent the rest of the evening in the back of my truck. I have a mattress and blankets in there for camping and railfaning.

You were too close to that train, you should probably back away a few feet from the ballast itself, just looking out for you, be careful!
Thanks for looking out for me. I don't railfan that particular site anymore. It was a beautiful day, but it was cluttered with poles and bushes, so I didn't use good judgment for the train distance. I prefer the crossings at Prairie Grove Road, or Richardson Road.

It looks like you're off the COOP parking lot here. I'd stay off CN property within the city. CN police will ask you to leave if they see you or someone turns you in.
Yup, you are right. They can report me too. I have been railfaning out at White Planes rd and a MOW worker called the mounties on me. Told them I was a railfan. They were nice to me and gave me a little warning.
@@cpeast Some guys are just miserable and hate railfans. I don't get it. Just make sure you're staying off CN property so you don't find yourself having issues.

The second unit has a multi mark 😊.
It was a race against time to catch this train in the tunnel. You can hear that I was out of breath from running 🏃♀️. When I was younger, I would have had time to set up the tripod. I am 51 years old now, and it is a little harder to keep that pace.

Yup, I got to see some good trains, too. It was quite cold 🥶 for this time of year. At least we didn't get the big dump of snow that Montana got near Yellowstone Park.
This is not a CPKC engine. It's still a KCS engine. Even the 2 repaints are not CPKC.

It is pretty busy every day, Thursday and Friday are the best times for me. Sunday is a little bit slower than usual.

342 yesterday had a KCSM SD70ACe and a BNSF GP38-2. A BLE engine on 438 today and an NS on 491.
I had to go home yesterday morning, so I didn't get to record those. I saw intermodel 198 on my way home.
