How to Grow Carrots | 3 Tips for a Successful Carrot Harvest
Growing carrots can be so finicky. The tiny seeds are hard to plant evenly and then few germinate, but if you over plant then you need to thin. It can be so hard to figure out the best path. I’ve been growing carrots for years, and I continue to tweak my approach. I’ll show you my current approach and considerations to keep in mind

    Okay look lady, I'm loving the content. Just found the channel and you got yourself a fan. But if you continue with the annoying influencer voice where you crack your voice on the last word of your sentences and/or you stress the last word of your sentences then I'm out. Speaking like that is fake as hell and disingenuous.

    It works great if your rain only comes from above. I don’t know about y’all, but we have sideways rain too… That said, before chicken math hit us hard and we only had 10 ladies in an enclosed run, we had a roof too, and it helped.

    If the summer is very hot/sunny it might be a good idea to sow them between corn rows. I did so this year and it helped, though I didn't thin them, but I sowed them relatively sparsely. I mix the seeds with sand (like 5% seeds, 95% sand, seen this on youtube), because it helps sowing them a little more sparsely and provides a clear view of where I sowed. Got more than I know what to do with, same with red beet (also between corn rows). But I don't know how it works in other climate zones :)

    This is a good idea if you live in an area that’s above sea level. Here where I am in Texas the ground gets so saturated by water and run off is terrible that the dirt/sand turn to mud despite the covered run.

    Never use Walnut anything, it is toxic.......it will kill tomatoes plants. I should know, I have walnut tree...next year tomatoes plants in buckets. Ground I believe is polluted, walnut, J sprays round up over the fence. So be careful where you get your wood chips 😊

      I lived on a ranch for 6 years. We didn't feel the need to clean and maintain a full meat rail for something we did once a year or so. Cost us a lot less to just a have a good relationship with a few of the local butchers. Of course, we raised a lot more than just chickens, but the point remains. They can do a dirty job by hand for hours upon hours, and likely ruin a ton of meat, or they can pay a small fee to be sure nothing is wasted, as well as knowing the animals were put down quickly and cleanly.

    • @HardCoreFarmerDaddy
      @HardCoreFarmerDaddy 8 днів тому

      @randalthor2859 I understand. But who doesn't know how to butcher a chicken? The bones are good for broth and I use the left over scraps for my hard working dogs, I make a nice meat and bones paste, nothing goes to waste. I also have a big family with kids so I guess I have the upper hand on labor 🤣, but at least they won't grow up not knowing how to butcher a chicken.

      Some farmers are community-minded. Maybe they trade services and support one another. Without knowing more about how these people farm (or if they know how but choose not to butcher their chickens), we shouldn't judge.

      Chickens almost always lay eggs in nest boxes and not on the ground, and they rarely poop in nest boxes unless they are sleeping in there. And chickens prefer to roost on bars, so they aren't standing on bedding. Besides, they do not hang around all day in the coop, they are always outside in the run. A chicken stuck in a coop all day is a sad chicken.

    You can also lay down some wire mesh, layer on some cardboard that's been colonized with wine cap mycelium, lay down some more wire mesh, and cover with your usual bedding. It's a little extra work but you end up saving on bedding while still getting the same effect and plus your chickens can eat the mushrooms as snack when they fruit.

    Chickens are actually better Moms than ducks. Mother ducks rarely sit on their young anymore after hatching, and pretty much just allow them to go and do as they wish.
